Stay or Go: The results

Today's "Stay or Go" poll elicited quite a response. More than 11,000 -- as of 4:30 p.m. -- voted on the interactive system set up by philly.com that allowed readers to cast a vote for which Eagles players (and coaches) should stay or go. I got the ball rolling in today's paper (which you can also find here), although I did not include coaches or management, as philly.com did. The Web site, however, narrowed the list down to an essential number of players that aren't as much of a slam dunk as, say, DeSean Jackson would be. Although there are some that garnered an overwhelming "Stay" vote.

Stay or Go: The results

POSTED: Tuesday, January 12, 2010, 5:39 PM

I differed with the readers on several players, including Eldra Buckley, Max Jean-Gilles, Darren Howard, Jason Babin, Trevor Laws, Omar Gaither and Macho Harris. Here's the voting as of approximately 4:30 p.m. There were some curious choices.

Quarterback
Donovan McNabb: Stay, 3779 (32.6%); Go, 7798 (67.4%). Total votes = 11577.
Michael Vick: Stay, 3589 (33.9%); Go, 6990 (66.1%). Total votes = 10576.
Kevin Kolb: Stay, 9215 (88.8%); Go, 1163 (11.2%). Total votes = 10376.

Yes, McNabb received more "Go" votes than Vick. Amazing.

Running back
Brian Westbrook, RB:
 Stay, 3675 (36.1%); Go, 6520 (64.0%). Total votes = 10194.
Eldra Buckley: Stay, 4903 (62.2%); Go, 2978 (37.8%). Total votes = 7877.
Leonard Weaver: Stay, 8884 (98.3%); Go, 161 (1.8%). Total votes = 9040.

Philadelphia loves Weaver. It's official. I can't understand the fascination with Buckley, however.

Wide receiver
Jason Avant:
 Stay, 8040 (96.9%); Go, 260 (3.1%). Total votes = 8294.
Reggie Brown: Stay, 895 (11.0%); Go, 7277 (89.0%). Total votes = 8172.
Kevin Curtis: Stay, 2603 (33.9%); Go, 5080 (66.1%). Total votes = 7683.

Wherefore art thou, Brandon Gibson?

Offensive line
Nick Cole:
Stay, 5099 (81.6%); Go, 1149 (18.4%). Total votes = 6248.
King Dunlap: Stay, 1833 (37.5%); Go, 3061 (62.5%). Total votes = 4894.
Max Jean-Gilles: Stay, 3154 (62.8%); Go, 1868 (37.2%). Total votes = 5022.
Winston Justice: Stay, 4785 (92.4%); Go, 392 (7.6%). Total votes = 5177.
Jason Peters: Stay, 4863 (87.7%); Go, 684 (12.3%). Total votes = 5547.

A year ago, Justice might not have received ten percent of the vote to "Stay."

Defensive line
Victor Abiamiri: Stay, 2319 (59.2%); Go, 1596 (40.8%). Total votes = 3915.
Mike Patterson: Stay, 3738 (92.5%); Go, 302 (7.5%). Total votes = 4040.
Chris Clemons: Stay, 1445 (43.1%); Go, 1909 (56.9%). Total votes = 3354.
Antonio Dixon: Stay, 1691 (54.9%); Go, 1387 (45.1%). Total votes = 3078.
Darren Howard: Stay, 1654 (50.6%); Go, 1615 (49.4%). Total votes = 3269.
Jason Babin: Stay, 1881 (64.3%); Go, 1043 (35.7%). Total votes = 2924.
Trevor Laws: Stay, 830 (41.4%); Go, 1173 (58.6%). Total votes = 2003.

I guess the fans think the Eagles wasted their 2008 top draft pick on Laws.

Linebackers
Joe Mays:
Stay, 1369 (48.4%); Go, 1461 (51.6%). Total votes = 2830.
Jeremiah Trotter: Stay, 1009 (25.3%); Go, 2976 (74.7%). Total votes = 3985.
Moise Fokou: Stay, 2012 (74.8%); Go, 679 (25.2%). Total votes = 2691.
Omar Gaither: Stay, 1332 (62.4%); Go, 802 (37.6%). Total votes = 2134.

No one in this town will forget what the Axe Man contributed to this franchise, but they're not afraid to say goodbye.

Defensive backs
Ellis Hobbs:
Stay, 2008 (61.3%); Go, 1267 (38.7%). Total votes = 3275.
Quintin Mikell: Stay, 2233 (78.3%); Go, 620 (21.7%). Total votes = 2853.
Quintin Demps: Stay, 1111 (48.7%); Go, 1172 (51.3%). Total votes = 2283.
Macho Harris: Stay, 1311 (41.0%). Go, 1887 (59.0%). Total votes = 3198.

I can't understand the hate for Harris. He was thrown into a tough spot as a rookie.

Specialists
Sav Rocca:
Stay, 1398 (40.7%); Go, 2035 (59.3%). Total votes = 3433.

Punters are easy pickin's.

Coaches/Management
Andy Reid:
Stay, 2900 (46.5%); Go, 3330 (53.5%). Total votes = 6230.
Joe Banner: Stay, 1706 (37.9%); Go, 2792 (62.1%). Total votes = 4498.
Marty Mornhinweg: Stay, 1567 (30.0%); Go, 3655 (70.0%). Total votes = 5222.
Sean McDermott: Stay, 4530 (70.0%); Go, 1945 (30.0%). Total votes = 6475.

A few observations here: I'm surprised at Reid and Banner's "Go" votes. I thought there would be more for both. I'm shocked by the coordinators' numbers. Mornhinweg's offense set a franchise record for points, while McDermott's unit was among the worst of the Reid era.

Beat reporters
Jeff McLane:
Stay, 1 (0.1%); Go, 11576 (99.9%). Total votes = 11577.

Thanks, Mom, for the vote!

would have to agree with flyigglesfly...if VICTOR HARRIS could tackle, the cowboys would have been stopped twice on 3rd down on the 1st series...and the momentum of the game changes. "macho" is nothing more than an overhyped hokie with no ability for anything but the attempted ESPN highlight hit...Learn to tackle morons...this is the highest level and you tackle like women

McLane is probably the least qualified person to give an opinion on which players should stay or go. He didn't contribute one worthwhile piece of analysis all season.

One guy not in the poll that I think would have/should have received overwhelming fan support is Tracy White. Great on special teams, super energy and made plays in the nickel/dime every time on the field. Sort of this team's version of Ike Reese. Keep him!

Utterly shocked and disgusted by this poll....How could even 1% want Mikell to stay let alone 70%. It really shows how little people understand the game.

From this vote the linebackers and defensive backs would mostly stay, even though they were beat all season on deep routes and were very lucky in several of the wins that either the opposing QB or the receivers sucked and missed/dropped the passes in the open. The last two Dallas games showed that te eagles defense would keep them second in the East for years to come.

docwilly, he didn't impress you. he did impress the NFL with over 700 passing yards in two games. one of the games was against the best team in the conference. jeff mclain can't understand the dislike for macho. did you watch him in the first giants game dancing and laughing along the sidelines in the 2nd quarter. that spells LOOSER.

More "Go's" for Donovan than conVick! Eagles fans never cease to amaze me with their stupidity. He's the best quarterback in Eagles history who just had a very good year. Makes me ashamed to be an Eagles fan.

Buckley ran hard in preseason (a young Marion Barber?).

Sean McDermott needs to bulk up to around 300 lbs. and insert himself as the starting DE opposite Trent Cole.

"So the FANS want to get rid of two solid and proven "black" qb's for a white boy. Not surprising at all." YOU ARE A M0R0N...what % of the poll were white voters??? Vick was acquired as a tradeable commodity and a favor to the commish, and what has McNabb proven other than his limitations put him far short of "great". It is not a Racial issue "N" phillydog, no one is complaining about maclin, jackson, celek, etc...they look at talent and the need for a change, not McNabb's private prep high school background or college degree and dismiss him because of his color. My taxes will be paying for your welfare check on friday d0uchebag.

"Mornhinweg's offense set a franchise record for points, while McDermott's unit was among the worst of the Reid era." >> Just further proof that my fellow Eagles fans know jack squat about football and think with their hearts; not their heads.
