Stacy Andrews would restructure contract

POSTED: Wednesday, February 17, 2010, 7:09 PM

Stacy Andrews said today that he would be willing to restructure his contract a year after the Eagles offensive lineman signed a six-year, $38.9 million deal as a free agent.

"I would do a minor restructuring of my contract," Andrews said by telephone. "They want to do an adjustment and we're willing. Hopefully, we can come to an agreement."

Andrews, who tore his ACL with the Bengals near the end of the 2008 season, started only two games at right guard last season and sat on the bench for much of the season. The Eagles said it was because he hadn't fully recovered from the knee injury. Andrews, though, said the knee was not the problem and that his lack of production had more to do with being switched from tackle to guard.

"The knee didn’t hinder me," Andrews said. "I felt real good on the knee. It took a while to get comfortable at guard and get a new system down."

The Eagles made a splash by signing Andrews just as free agency opened last February. He was signed as a tackle, having played 28 straight games there before his injury, or a guard. He was considered a possible replacement for Jon Runyan at right tackle, but when minicamp came around the Eagles moved his younger brother, Shawn, from right guard to right tackle and Stacy was switched to right guard.

"The team said it would be best for Shawn to play tackle," Stacy Andrews said. "At first I felt uncomfortable about it, but I was like, 'Hey. it's my little brother and it will help his back out.'"

It did not. Shawn Andrews re-injured his back during training camp and missed the entire season. He had sugery in November and is currently rehabbing in Southern California.

Stacy, meanwhile, wants to remain an Eagle. He earned approximately $5.5 million in salary and bonuses last season and is slated to earn another $7.6 million this season. More than half -- $4.1 million -- would come in a bonus that would be paid out in early April.

Andrews said he would be willing to take a cut, but he "wouldn't mess with the roster bonus."

Rich Moran, Andrews' agent, said he and the team have had discussions and will continue to do so.

"I've always had an amicable relationship with the Eagles," Moran said.

The Eagles had no comment.

$10M wasted last year on the two Andrews... roughly $150/seat at the Linc. All fans should get a check the first game...

My bad, $6.8M in salary/bonus last year - ONLY $100/seat wasted. Was $10M in salary cap hit.

They never should have given him that big contract coming off an ACL tear. The guy tore his ACL late in 2008, how could they expect him to bounce right back from it? It seemed like a futures contract anyway, sign him for 6 years knowing the first would be rehabbing and helping Shawn get his head right, then hope for 5 relatively healthy seasons. Since they did sign him I think they should honor it. If they won't redo deals for players who outperform they shouldn't expect underachieving players to help them out. Except his contract isn't guaranteed so the team holds all the leverage here. Sucks for him.

The comments on players injuries are amazing... How do you know what you are talking about or do you like ripping players for the sake of ripping them. I guess if you all got hurt at work you would be glad to take a pay cut... or better yet why doesn't your boss just fire you Some of you might think about what you write before you write it you sound like idiots
