Stacy Andrews said today that he would be willing to restructure his contract a year after the Eagles offensive lineman signed a six-year, $38.9 million deal as a free agent.

"I would do a minor restructuring of my contract," Andrews said by telephone. "They want to do an adjustment and we're willing. Hopefully, we can come to an agreement."

Andrews, who tore his ACL with the Bengals near the end of the 2008 season, started only two games at right guard last season and sat on the bench for much of the season. The Eagles said it was because he hadn't fully recovered from the knee injury. Andrews, though, said the knee was not the problem and that his lack of production had more to do with being switched from tackle to guard.

"The knee didn’t hinder me," Andrews said. "I felt real good on the knee. It took a while to get comfortable at guard and get a new system down."

The Eagles made a splash by signing Andrews just as free agency opened last February. He was signed as a tackle, having played 28 straight games there before his injury, or a guard. He was considered a possible replacement for Jon Runyan at right tackle, but when minicamp came around the Eagles moved his younger brother, Shawn, from right guard to right tackle and Stacy was switched to right guard.

"The team said it would be best for Shawn to play tackle," Stacy Andrews said. "At first I felt uncomfortable about it, but I was like, 'Hey. it's my little brother and it will help his back out.'"

It did not. Shawn Andrews re-injured his back during training camp and missed the entire season. He had sugery in November and is currently rehabbing in Southern California.

Stacy, meanwhile, wants to remain an Eagle. He earned approximately $5.5 million in salary and bonuses last season and is slated to earn another $7.6 million this season. More than half -- $4.1 million -- would come in a bonus that would be paid out in early April.

Andrews said he would be willing to take a cut, but he "wouldn't mess with the roster bonus."

Rich Moran, Andrews' agent, said he and the team have had discussions and will continue to do so.

"I've always had an amicable relationship with the Eagles," Moran said.

The Eagles had no comment.

Okay, someone who knows about playing these positions please explain: Why is the tackle position easier on a player's back than lining up at guard?

I'm not an expert by any means, I played Safety...my good buddy played Guard in High School but kept having back issues and he was moved to Tackle, he said it allowed him more flexibility after the snap to adjust to the oncoming defender, where in the Guard position, he was hit from the moment it snapped by the NT right under neath him. Take it for what it's worth

"The Andrews brothers need to honor the contracts." Talk about clueless. The blog post is about how the Eagles want to change the contract...not Andrews. The Eagles want to lower the pay under the contract and Andrews said he would be willing to make some adjustments. I'm sure Andrews would love to "honor the contract" and get paid everything under the contract, lol

Here's how I'd restructure the contract: First he pushes the blocking slead for an hour at the first OTA. Then he handwrites a letter of apology to every season ticket holder for being a stiff. Then a randomly selected season ticket holder gets to slap Stacy's momma for pushing out two of the laziest children to ever wear midnight green. Then he gets cut.

Doesn't matter, he'll likely get cut anyway along with his lazy brother. Then they can "get their Michael Phelps on" together.

Someone help me understand this: why did most of us ridicule TO for wanting to restructure his contract when he had a great season, but we don't expect the Eagles to honor their contract with Andrews?

Whether it's easier on your back to play tackle or not, I can't see how you can play either at the NFL level if your back's not right...oh and rofl Dragoon6
