Spadaro spits on star

POSTED: Wednesday, January 6, 2010, 9:08 PM

Apparently, Terrell Owens isn’t the only person to have disgraced the Dallas Cowboys’ star.

Dave Spadaro, editor of philadelphiaeagles.com and an employee of the Eagles, videotaped his spitting on the centerfield star at Cowboys Stadium on Sunday before the Eagles played the Cowboys. The video was posted on the Web site, but was taken down sometime today.

Dallas media outlets picked up on the video and one – 105.3 “The Fan” -- posted it on its Web site. Here's the link.

“I did it all in fun and I’ve done it before with other teams in the spirit of the rivalry,” Spadaro said tonight. “It’s something I’ve been asked to do by Eagles fans. If I did something to offend somebody, I regret it. I meant no disrespect to the Cowboys organization or to their fans. They have a beautiful stadium and a marvelous organization.”

In the clip, Spadaro -- who is not visible -- pans inside the new $1.5 billion stadium and down to the iconic star.

“Nobody’s looking as I’m standing on the star,” he said on the video.

Spadaro then spits on the painted star.

“There you go, fellas” he said. “Spit on that star. I could do more. You know, Dallas kind of deserves a second one. Nobody looks.”

And Spadaro spit again.

A text message left with an Eagles spokesman was not responded to tonight.

Spadaro has been affiliated with the Eagles for approximately a decade. He authors an online column, hosts a show on the Web Site and is a visible presence in the media. Before coming to the team he worked for the Daily Local in West Chester and ran Eagles Digest.

Owens once celebrated a touchdown by running midfield and slamming the football on the star before a Dallas player knocked him down. The wide receiver was with San Francisco then, a few years before he signed with the Eagles.

UPDATE: There's now an "Open letter of apology to the Cowboys" from Spadaro posted on PhiladelphiaEagles.com. In it, Spadaro says. "It was not my intention to insult the Cowboys. It was my intention to enjoy the spirit of a great sports rivalry, and I clearly went over the line and acted unprofessionally."

It goes on: "I admit I get carried away with my love of the Philadelphia Eagles, and if this is a crime, I am clearly guilty. ... Again, I apologize to those whom I have offended by my actions."

Check out the full letter here.

Didn't they fire that other employee named Leone, who was generally known as a nice guy for his dislike that they let go of Dawkins (apparently after the performance Sunday, he knows more the management), because iy was against company policy or something like that. Shouldn't Spadaro receive some kind of punishment also, because that would be conduct detrimental to the organization, or do we have a double standard here.

yeah, its pretty low class and unfortunately fair or not, reflects on the eagles organization and fans. Why cant fans, just enjoy the game of football? These are two professional teams, they both put in a tremendous amount of preparation and typically always put on a good show. Maybe instead of apologizing to Dallas, he should apologize to Philly; especially if it gives ANY more motivation to the cowboys to win. In the scheme of things, this is a small distraction, but it just lacks in any class what-so-ever. I know many eagles fans, who are better than this, and hopefully he doesn't actually reflect the majority of fans in the area. Lets sit back and enjoy the game on the field this Saturday. Win or lose, it should be a good game.

Maybe someone from the Cowboys should spit on one of the Eagles superbowl trophies.

The uncivilized and low class action of Dave Spadaro typifies what most Eagles fans are made of, which again was exhibited by swell headed Eagle WR DeSean Jackson with his sorry loser attitude, pathetic.

Cowgirl fans are so upset because he spat on their precious star. Oh it's so horrible. Cowgirl fans not from Dallas are like children who grow up liking Spiderman or Superman but never grow out of it. When they see the Star they get a tingle up their legs.

What a LOW LIFE!!! It must appeal to some segment of the eagles faithful. Totally moronic and insulting to me. I am an eagles fan, and a football fan. Attend football games every week, from little league thru college games. I've never had the thought, let alone desire to perform such an act. I am enthusiastic about any game I attend, but do not feel the need to express my enthusiasm in such a deranged manner. DAVE PLEASE SEEK HELP U NEED IT. Your letter of apology is bizarre.

Best answer to this minor controversy is a WIN on Saturday. GO EAGLES.
