Sources: Vick likely for 49ers

Does Andy Reid’s contentious demeanor at many of his news conferences bother you?
Yes. Why can’t the coach respond to simple questions with simple answers so fans can know what he thinks?
No. I don’t care what he has to say anyway as long as the team wins.

Eagles quarterback Michael Vick is likely to play Sunday against the 49ers despite a deep bone bruise in his right hand, team sources said Tuesday.

If the swelling in his non-throwing hand decreases and he is cleared to play by a doctor, Vick will start for the second straight week in spite of injury. He suffered a concussion against the Falcons on Sept. 18, but passed evaluations the following days and was in the lineup on Sunday against the Giants.

Vick injured his hand in the third quarter when Giants defensive tackle Chris Canty hit him after he threw a pass. He stayed in for the rest of the drive, but left shortly thereafter for x-rays. The original x-ray was negative, the Eagles said, so Vick re-entered the game. However, when a second x-ray revealed a hairline fracture Vick was pulled, according to the team.

On Monday, Andy Reid said that Vick's hand was not broken and that it was bruised. The Eagles coach said a blood vessel made it appear on the x-ray that there was a break. Vick later called the injury a "deep bone bruise." Reid said the swelling had to go down before the Eagles would consider who was starting at quarterback Sunday.

If Vick isn't able to go, Vince Young and Mike Kafka are the two other options. Young, listed No. 2 on the depth chart,  didn't dress for the first two games of the season because of a hamstring strain. He was active against the Giants, but when Vick left, Kafka was called upon.

Kafka threw an interception on his first throw, though, and looked shaky the rest of the way. Reid said Young wasn't 100 percent last week, but it appears likely he would be the choice ahead of Kafka if Vick was held back.

The Eagles host San Francisco at 1 p.m. at Lincoln Financial Field.

I'm with drenner, if you wanna be cowboy/redskin fans than who needs you! The defense will gel and the line is getting better. Stop all the crying.

More importantly ... can Vick still grip defenseless dogs by the throat with his swollen hand?

MV needs to know when a guy is going to be open and throw the pass. Not wait until he is open like McNabb. This takes faith and knowledge of your receivers and trusting your o line. Otherwise he is going to get killed and picked off. What is the chance of those things happening early in the year without the benefit of OTA and working with the coaches during the offseason? These are not skills that MV had previously developed.

Scope33 You are an Idiot. If you really feel that way, go to the local shelter and volunteer your time to some animals in need, instead of wasting that here.

Over 1.5 million pit bulls are killed every year in "not for profit" clinics. They put 5-8 in a gas chamber at a time and gas them for 25-40 mins. Pretty humane of them huh?

Mike Vick went to jail for gambling over state lines(rico), not killing dogs. Get over yourselves already.

Can Vick play a game without further injuring his dog strangling hand? I guess we can hope for the best!!!

So apparently in Denver, Joe Mays filled in for DJ Williams this past Sunday and was all over the field stuffing CJ and others, playing with a nasty attitude and meeting guys at the point of attack (says Stink, Schlereth) Man we could use some of that attitude now, but I know he was too small. Well Ill take small if it knows football and hits some people. This D needs some of that. Offense will be fine, need to finish with TDs in red zone though, not turnovers and FGs. Dallas win and were only game back, plenty of season left but I think we have to win division to get in playoffs, Detroit and Atl/NO will get wildcards.

I still think Green Bay wins the NFC Norris division even though Detroit is playing well right now. We have to win the division to make the playoffs. NFC division winners get automatic bids and only 2 wildcard spots it's going to be very competitive in the NFC Conference this year.

frank-punctured lung my a@@, tell me, how does a punctured lung heal in a week? I doubt it was punctured. I'll buy that he has a cracked rib...

I have to agree with you on that. I had a punctured lung once and I was in a hospital bed for a week. This guy is up playing football? I was told to limit my movements and to rest so that punctured lung wouldn't collapse or worse fill with blood and can't breathe. That broken rib is no joke either. You can't left your arm over your head without severe pain and this guy playing football. I think it was all hype or God is this team's doctor for real.

Face it guys....this team will be lucky to reach 8-8.
    6-10 is probably more realistic.
Reid is a hack. You could go to a local HS football game
any given Fri night and see better clock management and
    game time adjustments.
The only good news is after the "dream team" is walked all over
and humiliated this season Reid is finally gone. If things get
    ugly enough maybe by mid-season.
If you think this teams crawls out of this mess with Reid at the controls....have fun kidding yourself.

punctured lungs actually heal fast and on their won apparently and it depends how severe of course. Romos was minor. Regardless, the training staff/coaches kept Vick out of the game anyway Im sure.

Truth. As I sit back and think about the Mike Vick issues, I realize that Andy Reid is caught in a bad situation. Having Vince Young on the bench is somewhat of a problem, due to Vince Young’s skills prompting him to be a starter on any other team. Vince Young is better than 17 starting QB’s in the NFL right now. In Short, If VY plays this week and does a GREAT job (which im sure he will) and puts a W on the eagles side, Vince will be appreciated. But if Vick goes down again, the eagles insert Vince..and pull off another W… Now you have a Kolb vs Vick situation all over again. Andy Reid does not want that kind of drama on this team. Especially after the 100,000,000. And that is probably why Reid is somewhat hesitant to talk VY. You can Coach fundamentals but you cant coach Skill and Win. Also, over the summer Vince Young and DeSean worked out pretty regularly. DeSean has been a Non Factor thus Far.
