Sources: Andy Reid will no longer coach the Eagles

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Andy Reid was told on Friday that he would no longer be the Eagles head coach as of Monday, a source close to Reid and another source close to the situation said on Sunday.

There have been several other reports that Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie told Reid that he was out in Philadelphia after 14 seasons. An Eagles official countered the reports and said that Reid had not yet been informed that he was going to be fired.

Reid did not respond to a request for comment on Sunday evening, although he said earlier that he had "not talked to [Lurie] about any of that."

Reid is scheduled to meet with Lurie on Monday morning. He was asked following the Eagles' 42-7 loss to the New York Giants what he thought would factor into Lurie's decision on whether to keep him or not.

"I don't know. But whatever he chooses will be the right thing," Reid said. "He's always done things for the best interest of the Eagles and I completely understand either way."

Reid and Lurie typically meet before games, but Friday's meeting was different. Reid still has a year remaining on his contract. He said last week that he wants to continue coaching. The Chargers and Cardinals has been rumored as possible landing spots, but Reid could ultimately decide to take a year off.

The Eagles will begin their search for a new coach immediately, if they haven't already. There have already been several reports linking them to Oregon's Chip Kelly, Penn State's Bill O'Brien and former Buccaneers coach Jon Gruden.

Denver offensive coordinator Mike McCoy, among several other NFL assistants, is also believed to be on the Eagles' list.
