Source: First-round offer for Kolb

POSTED: Monday, March 21, 2011, 3:07 PM

NEW ORLEANS -- The Eagles have received an offer for Kevin Kolb that would include a first round draft pick in exchange for the quarterback, a league source confirmed Monday.

The source would not indicate what team the offer came from or the exact number of the draft pick, but Peter King of Sports Illustrated, who first reported the offer, wrote that Eagles coach Andy Reid was now "looking for a team with a higher choice."

On Sunday at the NFL owners meetings, Eagles general manager Howie Roseman said that there was "a lot of interest" in Kolb from other teams. There are approximately a dozen teams in need of a starting quarterback.

Asked Monday to confirm the report, Eagles president Joe Banner declined by echoed Roseman and said that there was "significant interest from a number of teams."

As much as Reid and the Eagles may hope to procure a better offer they can't move Kolb until the lockout have been lifted. If the lockout was ended because of the players' injunction then the Eagles would be poised to deal Kolb right away. A new collective bargaining agreement, of course, would resume league business.

With five weeks left until the draft, the Eagles may actually be rooting for the players to win the injunction so that they can trade Kolb. Otherwise, they aren't likely to deal the 26-year-old after the draft.

This smells like a fishing trip. Since when did the Eagles share anything, on the record or otherwise?

Lockout not ending before the draft, and he's not gonna get traded for '12 picks. So what if they tried to skirt this by trading "future considerations" and like a 6th round pick for a 1st rd pick? Can I get a ruling on this??

Vick will be a bust. Kolb is going to be a fine QB on another team. I hope I'm wrong.

Why does this trade have to occur before the draft? Why can't the deal be made where the mystery team drafts the player the Eagles want and then after the CBA is in place the Eagles trade KK for the drafted player. Something along those lines could be worked out.

Yeah Guy, because Kolb has been so impressive, he is worth at least 2 first round picks. Give me a break. It will be a miracle if they get a first round pick in the upper half of the draft for him.

Are they allowed to trade for future considerations in football? It happens in baseball and hockey, but I can't remember hearing of it in football or basketball.

tpizza-I was thinking along the same lines you were...but then you are only talking about trading KK for one pick...

2 first rounders is a bit steep, but I think they'll get one and if not then we might as well hold onto him.

Think Arizona is the mystery team, according to reports...
