Smith says he's playing Sunday

POSTED: Friday, September 9, 2011, 1:50 PM

How many games will the Eagles win in the regular season?
12 or more
11
10
9 or fewer

Wide receiver Steve Smith said he expects to play Sunday, just nine months after undergoing microfracture surgery to help him recover from an articular cartilage injury in his knee.

Smith may only have a limited role behind DeSean Jackson, Jeremy Maclin and Jason Avant, but he has a package of plays he expects to be involved in.

"It is a miracle. God, I guess, helped me heal. You know, I'm still healing, I'm still getting better. But I'm just able to do stuff," Smith said.

He said he has been studying hard to prepare.

"I'm behind DeSean and I got me a package of plays in the four-wide set, so we'll see what happens," Smith said.

Andy Reid said "there's a chance" Smith plays. Smith has practiced all week and has not been on the injury report. Reid said Smith was able to recover from microfracture surgery faster than some others because the surgery did not affect his cartilage or ligaments, and he had little swelling.

Vince Young is listed as doubtful. He took some snaps today but has practiced very little, so Mike Kafka is likely the number two quarterback Sunday.

Asante Samuel "tweaked" his shoulder in practice, Reid said, but the cornerback will be listed as probable. Reid said he did not think the injury would be an issue.

Kyle DeVan said he has been taking first team snaps in between Jason Kelce and Todd Herremans (confirming what had been reported earlier this week) and making it clear that he will get the start at right guard Sunday.

How sad for Met Fan CharlieGarner that he is so miserable about his useless NY existence that the only thing that makes him feel good is to go on another teams site and be stupid.

It is interesting that it seems the Birds have no intention of getting into a contract discussion this season with DeSean. I've heard more then a couple NFL personnel people site the Eagles picking up Smith as a great move. DJax is hard player to sign because he os a big play guy with no consistency. He wants to be paid like a guy that a team can throw the ball to five times in a row down the field and score, double teamed with the whole stadium knowing he is getting the ball and he just isn't that guy. I think the Eagles value Maclin more and want to see what Smith provides allowing them to trade Desean in the off season if he won't take a contract that is one step down from the Andre Johnson/Calvin Johnson skill level.

So Coughlin wins a SB and wants Smith back, you call Smith garbage anddisagree with him and that makes you intelligent? hahahahahahah, wow, now THAT is logic for you. Do you really think before you type? Do you think at all? Don't quit your day job Hindsight, if you work at all, I don't see a GM job in your future. 57%? Yeah, I remember a lot of stupid stuff. Some idiot told me Mike "I haven't won a SB since the stone age"Shanahan is a great coach. See? Stupid.

Whatever happened to the punter who punted to D-Jax? The Tonner's guessing he's bagging groceries somewhere.

Eagles better sign a 4th QB for the practice squad. I know, if they get to him, the seasons lost anyhow, but just saying the way the line looks, and the prospect of QB injury a concern, it would be smart to get someone in here. Youngs injury could linger, and if Vick takes a good pop, uh-oh.

I'd rather have him sit out till he's 100%. With the Eagles WR depth, what's the rush when he could be a huge late season weapon?

This could be a grave mistake. If we don't need him don't play him until at least after the Giants Game. I have a feeling he's going to bring a new wrinkle to the Eagles second half of the year offense that teams aren't prepared to handle. We already know what Steve Smith is capable of doing in the NFL, he's proven.
