Smith says he's playing Sunday

POSTED: Friday, September 9, 2011, 1:50 PM

How many games will the Eagles win in the regular season?
12 or more
11
10
9 or fewer

Wide receiver Steve Smith said he expects to play Sunday, just nine months after undergoing microfracture surgery to help him recover from an articular cartilage injury in his knee.

Smith may only have a limited role behind DeSean Jackson, Jeremy Maclin and Jason Avant, but he has a package of plays he expects to be involved in.

"It is a miracle. God, I guess, helped me heal. You know, I'm still healing, I'm still getting better. But I'm just able to do stuff," Smith said.

He said he has been studying hard to prepare.

"I'm behind DeSean and I got me a package of plays in the four-wide set, so we'll see what happens," Smith said.

Andy Reid said "there's a chance" Smith plays. Smith has practiced all week and has not been on the injury report. Reid said Smith was able to recover from microfracture surgery faster than some others because the surgery did not affect his cartilage or ligaments, and he had little swelling.

Vince Young is listed as doubtful. He took some snaps today but has practiced very little, so Mike Kafka is likely the number two quarterback Sunday.

Asante Samuel "tweaked" his shoulder in practice, Reid said, but the cornerback will be listed as probable. Reid said he did not think the injury would be an issue.

Kyle DeVan said he has been taking first team snaps in between Jason Kelce and Todd Herremans (confirming what had been reported earlier this week) and making it clear that he will get the start at right guard Sunday.

Of course he will play, he is a man, a competitor, a player and knows they are treating him poorly.....and what goes around comes around....and his price will only go up.....one for his value, and two for the disrespect Joe is showing him.......Enjoy this year fans....and be prepared to say goodbye.....A man knows when his employer could care less.........

You do realize this article was about Steve Smith playing, not DeSean Jackson?

If anything Smith should be thrilled with the Eagles for believing in him when his own team didn't.

steve smith is more small fast garbage, with bad knees too. He might look good in week 5 and then get destroyed in the playoffs if his knees are even functioning by then. waste of a pickup, another brilliant Reid "gold standard" caliber player.

Steve Smith was never that fast in the first place...he beats his man with solid route running and has plus hands...you should be more concerned that the Birds did not acquire a QB for the practice squad (Devlin,LeFevour, Harrell) as Young's hamstring was never truly a "day to day" injury. No such thing with a hamstring.

it's not a miracle, it's science fact. if he snapped his knee and then magically got right up fully healed, that'd be a miracle. thank your doc, steve.

Nuggett really got excited about how DeSean is getting disrespected and how Joe Banner is a cheapskate. Problem is the article wasn't about DeSean. Hey Nuggett, how big is that Nuggett of yours? If all the free agents we brought in haven't finally convinced you that our management never actually WAS cheap in the first place, and that you're pretty much just hunting for controversy because you're unable to get enthusiastic about a team that has made the playoffs like 95% of the time over the last decade, maybe you should move to Detroit. They've got plenty to complain about there.
PS: I personally guarantee you they'll resign DeSean, and despite this fact you'll never think you were wrong in the first place. Because you're a crazy person.

Steve Smith: "It is a miracle. God, I guess, helped me heal" no silly, it was HGH. and "...I got me a package of plays in the four-wide set.." you can tell he's a high school grad.
