Six Eagles were named to the NFC Pro Bowl roster tonight, but cornerback Sheldon Brown was not one of them.
"It will kind of mess with you, but it's something you can't control," Brown said after being passed over despite having a career-high five interceptions, including one he returned for a touchdown. Brown also returned a fumble for a touchdown earlier this month against the New York Giants.
The six players selected to represent the Eagles in the Jan. 31 game in Miami were cornerback Asante Samuel, offensive tackle Jason Peters, wide receiver DeSean Jackson, defensive end Trent Cole, kicker David Akers and fullback Leonard Weaver.
Brown said he was named a second alternate to the NFC roster. The Eagles also had five other alternates: tight end Brent Celek (second alternate), quarterback Donovan McNabb (first alternate), safety Quintin Mikell (third alternate), guard Todd Herremans (fourth alternate) and defensive tackle Brodrick Bunkley (fourth alternate). Brown said this wasn't the first time he felt he deserved to be on the Pro Bowl roster.
"I've had a lot of good seasons," he said. "The year we had three defensive backs go (Brian Dawkins, Lito Sheppard and Michael Lewis) and I arguably had the best season, according to (Bill) Belichick. I always felt like the all-pro honor carries more weight because there is no fan voting there."
Samuel, who is tied for the NFL lead with nine interceptions, will be making his third straight Pro Bowl appearance and second with the Eagles. Peters, in his first season with the Eagles, will also be making his third straight Pro Bowl appearance.
Jackson, in just his second season, was voted to the Pro Bowl for the first time and made the NFC roster as both a wide receiver and a punt returner. He leads the NFL with a 16-yard average on punt returns.
Cole, whose 12 1/2 sacks rank fifth in the NFL, will be making his second Pro Bowl appearance, but the last time he went in 2008 he was added as an alternate.
Akers, who leads all NFL kicks with 32 field goals and 139 points, will be making his fourth Pro Bowl appearance, but his first since 2005, the year the Eagles went to the Super Bowl.
Weaver, meanwhile, is making his first Pro Bowl appearance in his fifth NFL season.
Not good news for the Eagles keeping Weaver, at least at a resonable price...I believe he signed a one year deal in hopes of having a break out year... Bobphxville
Justin Peters? That's a joke. p-diddy- I agree that Brown should have made it, but at the same time I think the biggest snub was Celek. He has truly played in Pro Bowl form from Day 1.
I'm actually glad they didn't vote in Brown, because if the NFL Pro Bowl ever got its selections right and gave all credit where it's due, I might have to rethink my assessment of it as a colossal waste of time. Coniglio101
No Sheldon Brown is a joke. This guy is a Pro's Pro. Plays hard, plays hurt, doesn't whine and sets a great example. They need to pay him, he deserves it. doon- Fitting that Samuels made it to the Pro Bowl since they don't do much tackling in that game. awl

I don't understand the selection of Jason Peters. I ain't mad about it but has he really played at that level? I thought william justice has been outplaying him at tackle. No way Sheldon Brown is not in the pro bowl...Unbelievable!!!!!!!!!!!!!! tmoon51
Statiscally Peters is having a pretty good year (about the same as his "Pro Bowl" Break-out year and Philly has a better reacord than the Bills had then) - 7 Penalties for 45 yard, allowed 5 sacks in 14 starts However Justice is having a better year - 6 Penalties for 35 Yards allowed 4 sacks in 15 Starts - And he shows up when hurt! George123- Pay the man? Are you his agent? He's getting paid enough. What about the players that don't pull their weight. Are they going to pay the team back? Didn't think so, on all accounts.
Peters? Didn't his quad/knee/ankle just heal? Sheldon being passed up is crazy. Hope Lurie and Banner make it up to him. nevets328, Asante's 9 interceptions means more than tackling ability. Richard Saunders
As a long time Eagle fan, never thought Sheldon was and is on the same level as Bobby Taylor, Eric Allen and Troy Vincent. Those are pro bowlers who unlike Asante and Sheldon DON'T LAY OPPONENTS OUT!!! lightysgirl
Why all the fuss about Peters? Just look at the Stats of the others who got in, he is having a better year than half, also agree that Sir Winston is having a better year than every other tackle chosen, what's that about? We should have got two tackles on!! philliefillie
Everyone knows that a lot of it is reputation because there is fan and player voting. It's like the All-Star starters in baseball or basketball. That's why Peters made it....rep. But seriously, you're complaining about Peters and Samuel being selected? What team do you root for anyway? You call yourself an Eagles fan and you're whining about Eagles players MAKING the Pro Bowl team? Lame JimG
This game is the joke of all pro sports. I agree with whoever said it should just be nominations and no BS game following that. Brown and Celek deserved to go. McNabb is right as a first alternate. DeSean made history getting named to both positions - and deserves it. croozn
