Sheldon Brown a no show

POSTED: Tuesday, June 2, 2009, 1:05 PM

Sheldon Brown decided this was the time and place to display his contract discontent.

After verbally going public with his unhappiness about his contract situation in April, the Eagles' cornerback still showed up for the team's mandatory post-draft camp. He did not report today for the start of the Eagles' eight-day voluntary camp.

Brown, according to a Comcast report, had a meeting to air his differences with team president Joe Banner last month, but he's obviously still unhappy enough about his situation that he did not want to attend this camp.

An Eagles spokesman said Brown was the only player who did not report. Attempts to reach Brown yesterday were unsuccessful.

More to come later.

In case people have not noticed, the Cards have no intent to trade Boldin, and they never did. They dangled his name in trade talks to attempt to prove to him that he was not as valuable as he thought. They succeeded. He won't be going anywhere.

5isaking, you my freind are an idiot!!! How are the Eagles cheap??? They have proved that they will spend they money for the right players. Last year everyone wanted the Eagles to go after Roy Williams, look how that worked out. Look at Boldins numbers over the last 4 years, they have gone down every year and you want to trade one of the BEST young guards in the game for an aging WR. If we have any chance at winning we need Andrews, the Eagles have what could be the best O-line in football. WOW, maybe you should stop listen to WIP and start to thinking for your self! Don't you think there is a reason not one team has traded for this so called great WR???

Sheldon, did you forget what happened to Lito? You are a commodity. I know it hurts, but everyone can be replaced. I guess Ellis Hobbs was laughing this morning when he automatically took your spot this morning.

Excellent photo showing the massive separation between Brown and Fitzgerald on a goal line fade pattern. Brown is average to above-average at best; he isn't the elite corner he or his agents would have us believe. Boldin isn't being dealt, so let's stop with that train of thought altogether. I would like to see if the Browns are willing to part with Edwards for a reasonable package.

It's really sad to hear Philly fans mock someone with depression. It's also slightly ignorant, since depression is a serious disease too. Guess that doesn't seem to matter in Philly.

Hey Heathinkc1 - Calling someone depressed who is depressed, ISN'T mocking him! So go back to Dallas and cry there. We don't need to hear your sorry excuses to complain about Philly Fans.

I like to think that voluntary means voluntary. BUT if every player except one shows up, it dont sound very voluntary to me.

Both browns to some team for draft choices. That would be fair to both losers and give the Eagles some shots at new blood down the line. Boldin is not coming here. Stop that old chestnut.

Now that's a bad career move on Browns' part. Holding out just never works with the Eagles.

Also, this strengthens not only Hobb's position in the depth chart, but his negotiating position re: his own new contract.

5isaKing: I agree with you about Sheldon. My only point was that the Cards are not trading Boldin, and they entertained trade deals to lower his demands in the boardroom meetings. It worked. He fired his agent, and before that, the agent was saying that $10 million was no longer the offer. You seem to be suggesting that these two players who over-value their worth should just be swapped (along with a 2-time pro-bowl lineman and a WR). You can say you told me so til you're blue in the face if Boldin goes to another team.

Trade him along with something else to GB for Aaron Kampman, who is unhappy with his switch from DE to LB. He's had double digit sacks 3 years straight, and would be more valuable to this team than Sheldon.

Why do people keep saying Lurie is cheap. It makes you sound very ignorant and unintelligent. How about the new stadium? How about McNabbs contract, Andrews contract, Asante Samuels contract? Thats a lot of millions. I remember when we had to let Reggie White go, let Keith Jackson go....that owner was cheap. Lurie allows Andy and Banner to spend that money when they feel they need to spend. I myself enjoy knowing the Eagles will be a good team every year, I remember 3-13, do you? I want a Super Bowl as bad as anyone, but Lurie is not the reason we haven't won.

why does everything think you can just name players you don't want and trade for someone you do? do you think any team in the entire league wants reggie brown? i don't. do you think theyd give up a pro bowl wideout for a 2nd corner who is a crybaby about his contract, a depressed guy who's coming off a major injury and we don't even knwo if he can play, and a guy who can't make THE PHILADELPHIA EAGLES starting WR corps? please...

It looks like Sheldon wants to make sure Lito was right when he said by the end of the year he would be on the bench. This should put him on the fast track to a reserve role in no time! Hobbs must have had a big old smile on his face when he realized Brown's greed is going to end up getting him a starting spot and a new contract.

If my boss had just hired someone who could replace me, then said the next training course was voluntary, I'd be an idiot to not show up. Same thing works for Sheldon. Son, stop listening to your agent who only wants your contract bigger to line his own pockets. Get to camp!

He's not holding out, the practices are voluntary.. No story here, who really cares about Sheldon Brown anyway? He is an average player, thats it.

I've thought long and hard about this situation and have reluctantly come to the conclusion that Mr. Brown is simply a FOOL. Sheldon, please don't steal another minute from my life. Go back to South Carolina and never be heard from again.

Difference between voluntary and mandatory is one thing and one thing only -- he can't be fined for skipping 'voluntary' team activities.

Philly10, get your paws off of the caps lock and listen up. Sheldon Bonehead brown isn't tearing up any team. Who cares what he does? Andy bleed made sure to give the Eagles enough cornerback help in pick up players to nix Bonehead altogether. You all should have known that this was coming. Him and Lito are joined at the hip when it comes to not having any sense.

I guess Brown does not want to compete for a starting job in Philly. All that will do, when he loses the starting job, is show all the other clubs that he was no longer a starter. How does he expect to get a new/bigger contract when he isn't even a starter?? Just DUMB!!

Trade Shelly now before his stock bottoms out. He's not nearly as good as he thinks. Lito was soft, T.O. nuts, but both were pro bowlers. Shelly was never a pro bowler. There are enough D-backs on the roster to easily replace him. Trade him for a draft pick and box of donuts Andy.

We don't need Boldin we need depth. We are a spread the ball around offense that works very well. You watch the records this season that this team will set on offense, it's going to be magical.

I have always admired Sheldon. He plays HARD and even though he isn't the BEST cover corner around, he was always an asset to the team defense. However, trying to show up the team just isn't going to work, and i am quite surprised he hasn't learned yet that he is just another sock in the drawer. While I still hope to see him on the field this year, giving his best for the guys around him, I'm sure that mentally at least, Andy has already said good-bye.

Anyone who feels Sheldon is easily replaceable is reatrded. Go look up some CB metrics before you spout ignorance. Sheldon was the 5th best CB last year. Better than Asante Samuels who isn't nearly as good in coverage as Sheldon. The only thing he has on Sheldon is he'll get a few nice ints. Sheldon shuts down WRs and is arguably the best tackling Cb in the league. The man didn't give up a single Td all year until the third game of the PLAYOFFS
