Roseman: Eagles will add QB before minicamp

POSTED: Thursday, April 15, 2010, 2:09 PM

General manager Howie Roseman said that the Eagles will add another quarterback to their roster before minicamp starts on April 30.

Roseman met with a roomful of reporters today to preview next week's draft for the Eagles. He was asked if the draft had any bearing on whether the team would consider bringing veteran Jeff Garcia back as the third quarterback behind starter Kevin Kolb and backup Michael Vick.

"Jeff's agents have some players on our team and obviously in those conversation his name has come up," Roseman said. "But we also think that there are some good opportunities to get a third quarterback, whether it's a young guy or other guys that are available. We'll look at all those options as we go forward here. We will obviously add a quarterback before our first minicamp."

The Eagles were entertaining offers for all of their quarterbacks a few weeks ago, trading Donovan McNabb to the Redskins a week ago. But there hasn't been much of a market for Vick, even though there are still teams in need of a starter and he has said that he wants to go back to being a starter.

"We anticipate Michael Vick being here," Roseman said.

Asked if the Eagles would field offers for the quarterback, Roseman said, "We'll field offers for anything. We're open to any situation and any circumstance for multiple players on our team. You have to be open to that."

Roseman, who took a few dings a few weeks ago from Yahoo columnist Mike Silver and from an unnamed general manager about his negotiating tactics, was asked if the Eagles received the draft compensation they hoped to get in return for McNabb. The Eagles got Washington's No. 37 overall pick in this year's draft and a conditional fourth-round pick in next year's.

"We didn't really have expectations," Roseman said. "We just felt like we were going to sit and listen. ... As this process went along, I think this was a good result for all of us. I think it was a good result for the Washington Redskins. I think it was a good result for the Philadelphia Eagles."

In other news, Max Jean-Gilles and the Eagles agreed to a one-year contract after the guard signed his tender today. Sav Rocca is the team's only remaining restricted free agent to have not inked his tender. The punter is in his native Australia, according to the team, and will sign the tender when he returns to Philadelphia.

The Eagles only anticipate Vick being there because no one wants him.

Eagles will get a 4th round compensatory pick for vick next year anyway. If berry falls we will trade Vick, our 1st and a late pick to move up and grab berry.

The key word is anticipate, which means he's not sure.

No way anyone should give all of that up for Berry. The draft is a crapshoot. Mays could wind up being exactly what the Eagles need...a bigtime hitter in running situtions and a guy who can cover good tight ends when the other team loads up on receivers.

Kellen Clemens could be had from the Jets for a 4/5th round pick.

Paul SoTX, the knock on Mays is that he can't cover, and would probably be a better WILL in the league.

Eric Berry is an elite talent, and would be exactly what the Eagles need. Would trade a 1st, Vick and a late pick to get Berry in a second..

Should I call Kansas City and tell them you guys are willing to offer a QB no one wants AND a 3rd day pick to move up 19 spots in the first round? I'm sure they make that move in a heatbeat.

yes i keep hearing people say take Mays! he cant COVER in four years as a starter at USC he had 2 ints really four years at one of the top schools as a starter only two picks not good.and has horrible hips for a safety he would be better suited as an lb.....eric berry is the best safety to come out in a longgg time and would be a perfect fit in this defense.....trading our first...vick for a top pick would be great but no one at the top wants vick soo now i just hope the eagles dont fall for Mays physical attributes and pick him bc i see another Mamulaesque performer

Don't know what a mope is, but Kellen Clemens isn't worth two squirts of urine. No thanks.
