Rodgers-Cromartie OK with coming to Eagles

POSTED: Monday, July 25, 2011, 1:09 PM

Most important move for the Eagles, now that the lockout is over:
Trading Kevin Kolb
Signing a defensive lineman
Signing or trading for a cornerback

Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie can see the writing the wall.

The Cardinals cornerback wouldn't have gone on WIP-AM in Philadelphia if he didn't believe that a trade involving him and Eagles quarterback Kevin Kolb was in the works.

"It don't matter to me," Rodgers-Cromartie said to WIP hosts Anthony Gargano and Glen Macnow when they asked him about coming here.

For most of the interview, though, Rodgers-Cromartie tried his best to keep the wagon behind the horse. He said, in essence, that he is still a Cardinal and will plan on remaining one next season until otherwise.

Still, the only thing that apears to be holding up a Kolb-to-Rodgers-Cromartie trade is the end of the lockout and the start of player trades. There are various reports on when the Eagles can wheel and deal, but Tuesday seems to be the best guess at this point.

The deal was essentially agreed upon around the draft when the lockout was briefly lifted. The Cardinals and other teams know the parameters of what it would take in terms of a contract extension to get Kolb, league sources said.

If it's not the Cardinals, Seattle is the other likely destination for Kolb. They have been interested in the 26-year-old as far back as two seasons ago, but don't seem to have a player the Eagles would want in return.

Rodgers-Cromartie appears to be the guy the Eagles will get, though, perhaps along with a 2012 draft pick. He would immediately address the Eagles' need for a right cornerback. He's considered a strong cover corner, but there are questions about his tackling abilities.

"That's what they say," he said, "but I know how to hit."

Rodgers-Cromartie spoke positively about lining up opposite left cornerback Asante Samuel and how he would be open to learning from the veteran.

In other Eagles quarterback news, Michael Vick's agent said that his client remains interested in staying with the Eagles long term. The Eagles franchised Vick before the lockout, tendering a one-year contract expected to be worth around $16 million.

"I think a long-term deal is something both sides would covet," Joel Segal said today on NFL Network. "I will talk to [Eagles president] Joe Banner and explore that. I think Mike is amenable to it. He'd look forward to it. [He] loves Philly, loves the fans. He's a big Marty [Mornhinweg] fan, Andy Reid fan. If the Eagles are interested, we're definitely interested."

The Eagles are expected to offer Vick a contract extension at some point, but it won't likely come until after the flurry of free agent activity. Language in the new CBA ratified by the owners said that teams would have until Sept. 20 to extend franchised players. It's not necessarily known if the Eagles can wait until after that date or even franchise Vick next off-season.

As for the report that it was possible the Eagles could sign Brett Favre to be Vick's backup, Bus Cook splash some cold water on the notion.

"Brett Favre retired in January," Favre's agent said to the Associated Press. "He has not talked to any teams, including Carolina Panthers, Philadelphia Eagles, the Arizona Cardinals and the Seattle Seahawks. He has not talked to anyone about playing football. He’s retired, period.”

Of course, we've heard that before.

Rodgers Cromartie and a 2nd round pick. Pay up Cards if you want your future QB in Kolb.

this all reminds me of AJ Feely, and I think he won more games and did better than Kolb when starting. Howd he work out? Eagles are selling a bill of goods and theyve known it for a while

    Duh.
If they thought THAT highly of him, thought they can win a Super Bowl with him, they'd keep him.
Say what you want about Reid, but this will be the third time he's raped another team trading a QB.

The Birds better get a pick out of it, too. A starting QB is worth more than a starting CB any day of the week.

This trade would really work out well for them in FA. Maybe they can afford to lure away Johnson from Carolina. However they still need to redo DeSean's deal ASAP. Make that cat happy.

The big factor in this Kolb deal for DRC is Larry Fitzgerald. Fitz is going to make it Kolb look like a superstar because Fitz is a beast and will go up and get everything Kolb puts up. The two are young only 1 year apart and if AZ gets Plax or Ocho5 or Braylon Edwards or Randy Moss AZ may be the team the Eagles has to beat to get to the superbowl and if DRC aint tackling all Eagles fans will hate the trade and wish we would have signed Asomugha. Sign Asomugha and trade Kolb to Cleveland for Hillis and a draft pick or Oakland or Buffalo and Kolb won't hurt us for a few years. Add Edwards and Haynesworth to the d-line and let's go kick some @$$ all the way to the SuperBowl!!!

Trade Kolb to Cleveland for Hillis and a draft pick??! You're smoking crack. The Eagles would be the ones throwing in a draft pick. Perhaps more.
And the Cards aren't going anywhere this season...with, or without, Kolb.

Great, just what we need, another corner who doesn't tackle. I know, I know, their job is to cover. Bunk.... I played corner in high school and while that was 40 years ago, if I approached tackling the way these guys do I'd still be running laps.

Where do fans like VegasEagleFan come from? Do they watch football. Do they realize Nnambi is gonna cost a forture and Hillis is on the cover of madden, do you think they would trade the beast for Kolb? Oakland and Buffalo what? Are they gonna just give us draft picks for nothing? Hillis doesnt play for 3 teams so Buffalo wont give us picks for Hillis. THEN after you get those 2 guys you want to throw more money around to get Edwards and Haynesworth right? So dont sign a back up for Vick and dont resign DeSean Jackson who opens up the field for over rated players like Celek? Dude you are some sort of idiot.

Favre? That's just a ridiculous rumor. The biggest egomaniac in the history of football isn't going anywhere to be a back-up QB. He probably started the rumor himself because he's missed not being the center of attention for the entire NFL world for the first Summer in 4 years.

They will give him a deal very soon after they have settled the roster. I would not look at salary too much. And I mean both players

Let's face it...if DCR was as good as he and everybody else thinks he is, the Cards would NOT have gone out and drafted patrick Peterson! The OTHER Cromartie (FA from the Jets) is a much better option!

Here's the problem with trading Kolb. Vick gets hurt and the season is lost

Thats why we need a viable backup...pretty stupid to not trade kolb knowing that hes leaving at the end of the year no matter what, why would you not get something in return for him?

I think we'll be OK with DRC for awhile, especially if the Eagles are doing well. He'll be playing to impress his new teammates by busting his hump & help them get into the playoffs. His 2nd year is his contract year, & we all know how that goes.

Why do Ealges fans get on Kolb saying he sucks and it aint worth it for the Cards to trade for? I hope ur right but if we are trading him then be glad that ur getting more then hes valued for. Cromarte has stud potential so Im taking him with a pick and running.

Vegas Eagles fan, so you are already making excuses for Kolb's. Don't worry about the Eagles facing Arizona in the playoffs. Eagles won't make the playoffs. Cowboys will win the division. You know I'm right.

Who Cares...........the Eagles will still miss the Super bowl again. just like always! The dumbest team in football. The owners spend all the money and they make the fans cry when the mess up their season...so funny!

This is why if the Cards get Kolb........they become a winning team and the Eagles continue to be a losing team. Fans get your tissues ready for a long season!

I have changed my mind, I want Peterson/6th rounder or Cromartie/2nd rounder/5th rounder or 1st rounder 2012/1st rounder 2013/6th rounder.... Quarterbacks are monumental assets.... Make them pay, we can cover our weaknesses in free agency = they can't.
