Report: Eagles add Vick
Jeff McLane, Inquirer Staff Writer
You thought bringing T.O. to Philly was controversial?
The Eagles signed Michael Vick, the former Atlanta Falcons quarterback who was recently released from prison, to a two-year contract, the team confirmed tonight.
In August 2007, Vick was convicted of conspiracy and running a dogfighting operation. He was sentenced to serve 23 months in a federal prison and was indefinitely suspended from the NFL. Vick was released to home supervision. He was confined until July 20. Soon after he met with Roger Godell and NFL commissioner conditionally lifted the suspension.
Vick was rumored to be headed to several teams, including the Eagles' preseason opponent tonight, the New England Patriots. Suddenly, the game, currently under way, lost all meaning. The Eagles have pulled off the shocker of what has been an eventful preseason for the local football team.
According to espn.com, Vick arrived in Philadelphia on Tuesday to meet with the Eagles. He stayed until Wednesday evening. What the Eagles plan to do with the quarterback that was once the NFL's highest-paid player remains to be seen. Donovan McNabb is the starter. Kevin Kolb is the backup. But Kolb recently sprained the MCL in his knee, although the injury is believed to be minor.
More than likely, Vick will be used in the 'Wildcat' formation, as a decoy and as a runner.
How does this help us at middle linebacker??? I can only hope that Vick gets a season ending injury ASAP like so many other eagles. Maybe it's time to find another team, this Vick news is disgusting. hoyaray
That's a major upgrade to Kolb. Yeah, worry about the quarterback while the Patriots walk all over our defense. SayHello2MyLittleFriend

wow..didn't see that coming...I don't even know how to feel about it. I guess Feeley or Kolb are done, save a roster spot with Vick as #3 QB. Living_Legend
I like how the Eagles broadcast isnt even talking about the signing. I wonder how many people stopped watching the game and just turned on ESPN. I sure did... 93phils

I am done with this ridiculous circus of a team. Win a Super Bowl, how's DOGKILLER gonna help us do that. He was finished in the NFL before he got caught. allen_jones
YES!!!!! Tom 20MAN
I LOVE THIS MOVE!!! What Vick did was disgusting and mentally disturbing. I'm not sure you can change the way Mike Vick truly views Dogs. But I do think he is reformed on how he will treat them. I do think his actions were a part of his culture and excepted by many of his peers (for that he gets a little slack) and then the bottom line. He served his time and should be given a second chance. You don't have to agree to that, but I don't think the Eagles Organization deserves to be protested (if that happens) Jeff Lurie is a QUALITY ACT. and he showed it again today. Andy Reed clearly knows from his own family issues all people are faulted. Mike Vick was already judged by our society and he has served his punishment. Let's us move on. Good luck Mike Vick, please make the best at this chance God is giving you. Raaaannndall
