Report: McDermott named Panthers DC

Less than a week after the Eagles fired him, Sean McDermott was named the Panthers defensive coordinator, a league source confirmed.

McDermott will work under former colleague Ron Rivera, who was recently named Carolina's head coach. McDermott and Rivera were assistants together with the Eagles.

The 36-year-old McDermott was fired last week after two seasons as the Eagles' defensive coordinator.

The Eagles have yet to hire a replacement, although former Seattle and Atlanta head coach Jim Mora is considered the leading candidate. Mora was expected to interview with the Broncos for their defensive coordinator opening this evening, according to Jay Glazer of FOXSports.com.

An interview date with the Eagles has yet to be scheduled and may not be if Denver head coach John Fox doesn't let Mora get away.

Eagles senior assistant Dick Jauron, who has an interview with the Browns set, and former Cardinals defensive coordinator Billy Davis are also candidates.
