Report: Jackson to end holdout

POSTED: Sunday, July 31, 2011, 8:15 PM

DeSean Jackson will end his hold out and report to Eagles training camp either Monday or Tuesday, according to a report from 6ABC.

Jackson has not reported to Eagles training camp, and while neither he nor his representatives have said anything about the situation, it's well known that he has wanted a new contract that matches his value as a Pro Bowl wide receiver. Jackson does not have a new contract, 6ABC reported.

The Eagles reported to Lehigh on Wednesday, but players were given until Thursday to report before facing any penalties, because of the quick re-start after the NFL lockout. The team only began padded practices Sunday. Jackson could be fined $30,000 for every day of camp he missed, though the team has not commented on any disciplinary action.

Because of his hold out and the lockout, Jackson has not worked with the team since the Eagles season ended in January. With Jeremy Maclin also out of training camp due to an illness, the Eagles have been missing their top two wide receivers.

Jackson's agent and spokesman did not immediately return messages seeking comment.

easy for you to say.. you are not risking an injury that would cause him to loose tens of millions of dollars... its just like when westbrook held out.. we all knew he deserved to get paid and it was a risk to practice without having deal done. i hope they get it done soon. the man deserves it

I risk injury and death every time I go to work. I guess I should not show up this week until the city finally honors the contract awarded during BINDING arbitration. I deserve to get paid and it is a risk to run into a burning building without having a contract in place.

Your employer is not making tens of millions of dollars in revenue due to your talent, worthy as that may be. Desean brings significant value to the Eagles which, if injury occurs, will be pocketed by the Eagles without Desean ever seeing a cent of it. There is such a concept as grossly outperforming your contract, and that should nbe recognized by the Eagles - and I believe that the Eagles will recognize it. The eagles stand to gain a lot more by satisfying Desean than they do by carrying a disgruntled Desean.

That is totally bogus. The Eagles don't make one dime more than they would if Jackson didn't exist. He signed a contract. He made a commitment. His signature was his bond. There was a time when that meant something in this world.

About time he stopped acting like a baby. Must be all the other new Eagles saying how much they wanted to play here. How Nnambi left money on the table. It was making him look foolish holding out when they can work on his contract after he reports.

If he gets a new contract and has a bad year, will he rework his contract for less money? I don't think so. This is what is wrong in pro sports today. You have a good year, you refuse to honor a contract that you signed. Play out your contract that you agreed to, then get a new one.

You sign a contract, you go to work. You don't do the proper job in the contract you find other work. That is the real world. Stop being a moron.

Exactly. If the man is worth x millions on the open market then he has a responsibility to his family, or future family, to do whatever it takes to reach the day where he is paid his worth on the open market. desean has proved that he is a warrior and has already risked his shot at a big payday by playing all out for his team. If he were to get hit tomorrow and lose his ability to perform, would the eagles pay him 30 mill for putting his body on the line for them?
