Rendell's rooting for McNabb, disses Eagles

Gov. Rendell is still an Eagles fan, but he told the website Politico that he intends to root for Donovan McNabb and the Redskins in the playoffs – because he doesn’t expect the Birds to make it without their longtime quarterback.

“They’re going to be in it, and we’re not,” Rendell told the site’s Ken Vogel, according to a blog post from fellow Politico writer Ben Smith.

The comment came at the end of an interview about the tea-party. Rendell was asked about his thoughts on the McNabb trade.

“It’s be careful what you wish for,” the former Philadelphia mayor said.

He added, “I’ll tell you this, Donovan’s going to be great for the Redskins.”

Smith wrote that the comments are “another sign that Ed Rendell has become even more unencumbered by political considerations during his waning months in office.” He is barred by term limits from running again for governor, almost certainly ending his elective political career in Pennsylvania.

how about writing articles about how mcnabb is twice the "teammate" he was in philly? suddenly he can't get out of washington. he probably sleeps in the locker-room. amazing how that trade lit a fire under his B-hind that hasn't been in philly for almost 6 years. suddenly he doesn't wanna go throw the ball around with all his buddies in arizona. he's working with coaches, and teammates determined to prove us all fools now. he hasn't stayed in this town for a decade now, to workout with his own team. now allofthesudden he's more serious than 1980's dick vermeil. rendell can't pick winners till they've won 80% of their goal. wasn't it his ad agency that submarined spector (soon to be called spectator)?

Rendell, shmendell. Another McNabb apologist. And what makes him such an expert? Hell, I've watched football since I was knee high to an ant too. Talk about a turncoat. You'd think he'd be supportive of KK but no, he wants to perpetuate the McNabb legend.

I think the Gov might be right on this one. Eagles just may be watching the playoffs from the sidelines the next couple of years while Kolb figures out how to play and the defense gets rebuilt. The Redskins defense is certainly better than the Eagles and Shanahan is the better coach. I can see McNabb smiling now.

VegasEagleFan - Apparently you have no conception of the definition of overrated. Overrated is the media's perception of a person less the reality. It is not the talent of the player which appears to be your thinking. The media's perception is that McNabb led the Eagles to 5 NFC Championship games. The reality is the defense ranked 2nd, 2nd, 7th, 2nd, and 4th in fewest points allowed during the 5 seasons the Eagles advanced to the NFC Championship. As a matter a fact the Eagles record without McNabb during the 8 seasons they advanced to the playoffs is better than their record with McNabb (11-4 .733 versus 78-34-1 .695). Furthermore, McNabb never won a playoff game in which the defense allowed more than 19 points. It was the defense that led the Eagles to their success. McNabb, the most overrated player in NFL history, had nothing to do with it.

As Governor it was inappropriate for him to be on a sports talk program while the state is economically going down the tubes. He spent more time at various sporting events than tending to the state's business. While on post game live he said some fairly disparaging remarks about Kevin Kolb which were uncalled for. And yes as a previous writers said... Rendell used the media to promote #5 and add to his grossly overrated status. But... worst then the rest of the media,.... Rendell did it for his own personal political gain with a certain segment of voters.

Look what the Gov's endorsement did for A.S.. It was the kiss of death. I am glad he is saying we won't make the playoffs; we will probably win the Super Bowl!!!!!!!!
