Here are a few numbers to chew on after the Eagles' 20-16 loss to the Cowboys last night:
1. Eagles coach Andy Reid has had only 15 of his 46 challenges (32.6 pct.) overturned since 2000. In the last five seasons, he has gotten only 5 of 26 challenges (19.2) correct.
Reid couldn't get two crucial second half plays overturned with challenges last night. He had been 2-1 in challenges through the first seven games this season.
"The two missed challenges on my side of things, that was a problem and whether they were right or wrong they were wrong," Reid said today during his day-after debacle press conference. "That's my responsibility."
2. The Eagles are 1-8-1 in their last ten games that were decided by less than six points.
“That’s a pretty good stat,” Reid said. “There is probably some form of a link. I’m not sure what that link is, other than that stat. We have to do better in those situations on both sides of the ball.”
Reid also revealed sometime late in the pow-wow that Brian Westbrook, who sat out the Dallas game after symptoms from a concussion resurfaced, recently received treatment on his ankle. The Eagles coach said the ankle had nothing to do with the running back sitting out the game, but he did say it had something to do with Westbrook being held out of Friday's practice.
On Friday, however, he said Westbrook's not practicing was just a precaution, one he's used before with the oft-injured tailback. He reiterated today that Westbrook didn't complain of a recurring headache until Friday afternoon not long after Reid met with the media.
Are you as confused as I am? The point is, Reid and company were trying to hide Westbrook's injury and hide the fact that he wasn't going to play Sunday. I can think of several other ways that energy might have been better spent: Maybe working on short-yardage plays or how your coaching staff watches video replays.
But I digress.
Reid did say that Westbrook should be able to practice Wednesday. The running back has missed three games, one because of the ankle, two because of the concussion.
In other injury-related news:
Defensive end Victor Abiamiri (knee) and linebacker Chris Gocong (quad, hammy) should be back to practice by Wednesday, Reid said. Cornerback/kick returner Ellis Hobbs will have his spine examined by doctors in the coming days. Safety Quintin Demps has an ankle sprain. Linebacker Akeem Jordan hyper-extended his knee, has a bone bruise and could be out for a little while. Jason Peters had an ankle sprain, but did return in the game.
Kevin Curtis, meanwhile, is expected to return to Philadelphia sometime this week. The receiver had arthroscopic surgery in Utah a few weeks ago and stayed out there to rehab afterward. He hasn't played since Week 2.

Both challenges should have been overturned or were good challenges, so can't fault Andy. The calls just didn't go their way, it happens. Mistakes were made by young players like Maclin and Fokou, among others. Don didn't play well, but did enough to win in my opinion. This is a young team and this type of play is expected unfortunately. With all the frustrating plays, they still could've beat the best team in the division right now. Long season... Unfortunately, the rest of the season is rough, crossing the country next week and winning will be tough and we know how the Bears have their number, and so on. Comment removed.- Why was he even challenging those calls. Get to the line , snap the ball, give it to Weaver and get 2 inches. Andy is a mental midget. He can not manage the clock, challenges or the team. We (OPhilly) is going to never see a Superbowl with him here. What does he have on Laurie that makes him keep him here. - Let's focus on the poor offense, lack of motivation from the coach and lack of leadership from the QB, instead of wasting time worrying about challenged calls. You sound like pee wee football players creating excuses for why you lost.— PhillyLover
- This game was boring and most games are these days. All the Eagles have to do is go 5-3 the rest of the way with wins over the Bears, 9ers, Redskins. Win 2 out of 5 from the Chargers, Falcons, Giants, Broncos, and Cowboys. Last year proved regular season means nothing. #6 seed Philly plays at #5 seed Arizona for the NFC Championship.— Bex
- It didn't work because this is suppose to be a PROFESSIONAL football team and you should not have to tin-cup for 4 inches - EARN IT! Why take the chance and lose your TO's. Does anyone remember the last time an Eagles team had TO's for a final drive?— jakster

- If the challenge is not overturned, by definition they were bad challenges. It doesn't matter whether you are right or wrong - but what does the camera angles show. The stats on Reids challenges mean little by themselves. You should have provided the league average to gain pespective on his ARs performance.— Bobphxville
- psuwelsh: because the evidence needs to be obvious/overwhelming, not best guesses or "from the limited view we have". you saw one of mcnabb's elbows hit the ground, but you did not see where/when the other one hit (this is common when there's a monster pile like that). so the refs couldn't make a definitive judgement to overturn.— jackhammer

- First of all the Cowboys suck and it is a disgrace to lose that game. McNabb did enough to LOSE the game not win it. He actually threw a ball two feet over the head of a guy ten feet from him. Reid & McNabb=No Lombardi...ever!
- Andy runs a good organization but he isn't a quick thinker. Terrible at clock management. Mcnabb is a great quarterback sometimes but he is streaky and rarely plays his best in close games at the end. The first challange on third down should never have been made. You either go for it or punt. Everyone should know that you don't get credit for forward progress if you weren't tackled or pushed backwards.— swinger18
