Head coach Andy Reid isn't known for overstatement, so it was eye opening Monday when he called his team's comeback win over the Giants "one of the all-time great games in NFL history."
It's not that many would argue, but that the normally muted Reid would make such a public declaration.
Despite the still evident joy at the Eagles remarkable comeback, Reid found areas of concern, starting with himself for not challenging DeSean Jackson's fourth quarter fumble.
"That's ridiculous, I should have cut that thing loose," Reid said of the challenge flag. "We weren't getting the replays, so I'll look into that part, too. Some of those were bang bang shots. ... unless you see a replay it's tough to figure out."
What do you think of DeSean Jackson’s showboating?
Reid was cryptic when asked follow up questions about not seeing replays. It seems like his assistants would have had access to the television feed, which showed several replays of Jackson's fumble before the next snap. "We weren't getting replays," Reid said.
Fox's broadcast clearly showed that a Giant grazed Jackson as he went to the ground, but Reid didn't challenge the play. At the time, it seemed like a mistake that would end any hopes for a comeback.
After his press conference Reid declined to answer more questions about the replay issue.
On the injury front, Reid said Nate Allen will have surgery Tuesday to repair a ruptured patella tendon. Jason Avant had a "slight concussion" after throwing a forceful block on Jackson's game-winning punt return. "It doesn't look it's too bad," Reid said. Mike Patterson has a sore knee that will need an MRI.
Winston Justice, who has missed the past two games, had a good work out Monday morning, Reid said, but he said he wants to see how the tackle handles a bull rush in practice later this week.
Reid praised his team for having the poise and determination to rally once they fell into a deep hole, but said the first three quarters gives him some reason to be unhappy.
"There's a lot to learn from this game. For three-plus quarters there it wasn’t very pretty and that part bothers me," Reid said. "But the determination and poise, that's a hard thing to coach, and this group has got that, and they showed that yesterday."
