Reid: Vick remains the starter, when healthy; Kolb: just want to win

POSTED: Wednesday, October 6, 2010, 1:04 PM

Kevin Kolb gets another chance this week. He will be the first team quarterback all week and the clear starter heading into Sunday's game against the 0-4 49ers.

But he said he is focused on the game, not reclaiming the starting job.

"If I get into all that, then I'm focusing on the wrong thing," Kolb said. "My focus right now is to go beat San Francisco  and make sure I do my part to do that."

Head coach Andy Reid was initially non-committal when asked if Kolb could win the starting job back from the injured Michael Vick, but later told the Inquirer's Ashley Fox that Vick remains the team's starter.

Asked if the job was up for grabs, Reid said, "No, (Vick's) the starting quarterback."

Reid praised Kolb's play Sunday, though both he and the quarterback said there were some chances to throw downfield that Kolb missed.

Reid said he does not expect to bring in another quarterback this week, leaving rookie Mike Kafka as Kolb's only back up.

LeSean McCoy (rib), Riley Cooper (concussion) and Asante Samuel (concussion) all sat out practice today, but Reid sounded optimistic about their chances to play Sunday. Samuel went through a team walk through this morning, and Cooper told reporters he felt good.

McCoy was not in the locker room when it was open to the media, but he played the entire second half last week with his broken rib, which Reid said is lower on his body than Vick's cartilage tear -- and therefore less burdensome.

UPDATED: McCoy said he hurt his rib in the third quarter and played through it, but wasn't sure if he would be ready for Sunday's game.

"I definitely feel a lot better than I did during the game and after the game," McCoy said. "I just feel like the more treatment I get, the better I’ll become."

But asked specifically about his prospects for Sunday, he said, "it's so early to tell right now, so we’ll find out."

Reid hinted at a potential line up change on defense, saying Moise Fokou will get some first team repetitions at strong side linebacker this week, in place of Akeem Jordan. Jordan has had an up and down season, making plays some weeks, and invisible in others.

Fokou said he was not told he was starting, but that he is going to share snaps with Jordan in practice.

Why would anyone believe a word that bloated sack of protoplasm says? Used to be a constant defender of Andy Reid, but he's got to go. That lying sloth.

yeah right BIG RED we heard that before..if KK smokes the niners and titans then your plan is right on schedule, they would be foolish to take KK out to play a running QB who can get injured on every play of the game.....wolf.

KK would have to be able to complete a pass for more than 10 yards to smoke the niners and titans.

At this point, it's the right decision to keep Vick as the starter. If Kolb shows he's truly got the talent required to run this offense, then he'll have to earn the spot back. For the group with "Manginas", quit your whinning already. I'm tired of seeing your redundant and worthless comments on every story.

IF Eagles beat niners, Cowboys beat Titans, Skins lose to Packers, Giants lose to Texans. Eagles are in first place. Eagles then have Atlanta at home, could be tough but then go to Tennesee heading into their bye. So Big Red plans to re-bench Kolb (a player he wanted over the winningest QB in team history) if he goes 3-0. Keep in mind Vick in the final year of his contract. If Eagles go 3-0 they should be sitting alone a top the NFC east at 5-2 coming out of the bye week. Way to support the guy who you groomed for 4 years.

Andy "great idea" to switch back to Vick in early nov facing Indy, Washington, Chicago, Giants, Texans cowboys, giants. Kolb will be pretty popular if they go 0-7.

Reid should address what is really happening, it doesn't matter who the Eagles put behind center, bad clock management, penalties and a pourous offensive line.......they don't have a prayer with Kolb or Vick.

I have supported Reid since year one but I am starting to wonder if he didn't have the concussion with the decisions being made.

its funny how in Washington, Mcnabb still looks good some games, bad others, wins silly games, loosing ones he should win. We thought he was the issue here. But that problem followed mcnabb, and is still here in philly. Pointing to the only logical conclusion that Reid is just as at fault for the last 11 years and mcnabb was. Good bye andy, you did well, however, the league changes, and you're still fat and stupid.

Sure,. sure...unless Kolb somehow wins the next three games....then he makes him the scrificial lamb for Peyton....and then he lets Michel come back...what a genius....OR...Andy's offensive line gets Kolb killed and Micheal is rushed back too soon....gets hurt agian and Mike Kafaka takes us to the bottom...

a lot of "IF's" (PKING222) what "if" a bus runs Kolb over tomorrow or what "IF" Andy Reid woke up realized he's not putting players in a position to win and what "if" the Giants bus missed the light and got stuck in traffic then a butterfly flew by the window and Eli took a picture and emailed it to his brother,, what "if" you never wrote all that garbage in the first place? what "if" what "if"

What my father would say about the word "IF" simply says it all: "If your sister had b@lls she would be your brother." pking222 is right in at least one way; KK or Vick, no chance unless the other and maybe more serious issues are resolved; Andy's mistakes, the O-line, etc.

totally unimpressed by Vick, hope his injury covers 12 games and the next time he's in uniform its one with stripes on it for breaking probation.

Reid already knows Kolb is GONE after this season. Kolb is a 3 1/2 point underdog to an 0-4 team. VEGAS THINKS IT'S A LONGSHOT THAT KOLB WILL BEAT AN 0-4 TEAM. Kolb's putrid quarterback play will only last so long in this city.
