Reid: Trotter "did a nice job"

POSTED: Friday, September 25, 2009, 11:56 AM

Andy Reid talked today about the Eagles' decision to work out former linebacker and current talk-radio personality Jeremiah Trotter Thursday.

"I just wanted to see where he was at," the Eagles coach said. "He had his knee taking care of after he left here ... so I wanted to get him in here and see him move around a little bit, which I thought he did a good job. We'll take it from there. I haven't made any decisions on it one way or another. I wanted to take a pulse of where he was at physically. I thought he did a nice job with what we did with him."

Trotter's tryout raises the question about whether Reid and the Eagles are concerned about the middle linebacker position, where Omar Gaither is now the starter.

"We brought other people in at other positions to look at," Reid said. "You just want to make sure you have everything lined up in case you need to go that direction. I don't like questions at the last minute about what people look like. You try to do that in advance."

INJURY REPORT

Reid also gave the injury report for Sunday's game against the Chiefs. Quarterback Donovan McNabb (rib), wide receiver Kevin Curtis (knee) and safety Quintin Demps (hamstring) are doubtful.

Running back Brian Westbrook (ankle) is questionable. Wide receiver DeSean Jackson is probable. If Curtis can't go, Reggie Brown will be activated and rookie Jeremy Maclin will start, Reid said. It would be Brown's first action of the season and the first start of Maclin's career.

FROM EARLIER ...

DeSean Jackson is back at practice after missing the last two days with a groin injury. The Eagles wide receiver should be healthy enough to play Sunday against the Chiefs.

Kevin Curtis, meanwhile, is missing. The wide receiver has a left knee sprain and has been a limited participant in practice this week.

Brian Westbrook is still out, but it's not as if the running back hasn't practiced the week before a game and still not played. He has a right ankle sprain.

No surprise here, Donovan McNabb is also not practicing. He and Westbrook left practice after about a half hour. Asked if he could play Sunday, McNabb said, "I just don't know yet. No new news here."

It looks like McNabb will get another week -- plus the upcoming bye -- to nurse a fractured rib. Kevin Kolb will start in his place. Michael Vick and Jeff Garcia are out on the practice field along with Kolb.

There is no sign of Jeremiah Trotter, who worked out for the Eagles yesterday.

i think they need to go deep with djack more this game. Not just to go for a touchdown but to strech the field a lil. last week they did a awful job of this after the first drive. we need djack more than a mlb because without him we have no legit weapon. westy looks old and celek isnt a tonyg so....

MCaesar-Get a life. Kevin's has a sprained knee. That is the only reason we haven't seen him be productive this year.

It's guys like craig that give philly fans a bad name. Yeah, it sure was Mcdermott that called a terrible game. You are right, Craig, he should have blitzed every down on a team that utilizes the 3 step drop on almost ALL passing downs. How do you expect to get to Brees when he gets rid of it so fast? Maybe last week showed how their LB's can't cover my grandmom (and she's dead). Also, the game was MUCH closer than the score, turnovers and special teams cost them and the game got away from them. With McNabb and others heathly we can beat them in the playoff so relax and get off McDermott's jock. But we need a MLB as bad as the Phillies need a closer!!!

dgreils! You got me!! No one else is going to stick up for me! lol! Seriously, why not start him. Maklin honestly has looked a little afraid out there. I hope he works out. Ever since that hit against the Jaguars in pre-season he has not looked the same, thinking too much I believe.

Trotter was a liability on passing downs when he was playing 2 years ago. I am sure sitting around for a year he is much better now. Mine as well sign Ike Reese while were at it.

Where was the article where one of these brilliant Philly writers took Vick's quote out of context, saying that Vick thinks he should be a starter in philly. Most of the philly sports writers suck worms.

with salary cap etc. every team is short at some position. The only chance you have for depth is to develop players but most other good teams are trying to do that, so the development talent pool is also shallow. Omar is a back-up. If one more LB goes down, you are talking Vick for a LB, if that does not happen, then we know Vick r4eplaces #5 sooner than later.

So I have to submit my input twice today? Trot should stay retired. This game is a slam dunk and we can win with Hobbs at LB.....

I think these are the same people who said not to sign Pedro for the Phillies. Geniuses aren't they all?

I totally understand the draft philosophy the Iggs have with linebackers. Most of the time you can get a guy in the 4th round that can do 90% of what a first rounder can do for 20% of the price. That being said, they should break the mold if the opportunity presents itself and try to get a gamebreaker in there. Too many average to below average guys in there. I love Trott and love him being around the team but I think his legs mandate it being as a coach.
