Reid: I'm taking Bradley's injury home with me

BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- To get back at evil Eagles beat writers, coach Andy Reid declined to list the Eagles' injuries after today's practice at Lehigh, nor did he address the news that middle linebacker Stewart Bradley tore his anterior cruciate ligament.

Several media outlets, including this one, reported that Bradley is out for the season after an MRI this morning revealed a complete tear of the ACL. Reid was upset that a few reporters called Bradley on his cell phone.

"Some of your colleagues here decided that they would go to the players and/or other personnel here and ask about injuries," Reid said. "I made a pact with you guys when I first got here that I would disclose to you the injuries, just stay away from the players. Stay away from other personnel in the organization and I'd take care of you. That was breached."

WIP's Howard Eskin first reported the news. Andy's ire was apparently not directed toward the sports yakker.

Meanwhile, the players reacted to the loss of their starting middle linebacker.

"It's a major loss," said Donovan McNabb, who suffered an ACL tear three seasons ago.

Said outside linebacker Akeem Jordan: "He’s got to fight back, but we’re only one soldier down. It’s unexpected, but we have to fight back and come together."

Joe Mays ran with the first-team defense at today's practice. He is expected to vie for Bradley's spot with Omar Gaither. He said he knew of Bradley's injury before he walked out onto the field for today's practice.

"I would say there were a couple of butterflies," Mays said. "In a situation like this you always want to earn your job. You never want to have it given to you. ... But I'm ready."

Now a backup outside linebacker, Gaither started at middle linebacker for the entire 2007 season. He was demoted last season.

"I feel like I’m the best man for any job – it doesn’t matter what position," Gaither said. "If it opens for me or Joe you want to take advantage of it. You hate to see something like that happen to your teammate, but had the same thing happened to me or anybody else, whoever was behind me would look forward to taking advantage of the opportunity as well."

Maybe Andy feels that he's earned some respect that obviously wasn't given to him by the mighty Philly media. And by the way Jeff, you are a rookie in town.

Reid got here 10 years ago. Bob you are in your 7th year and Jeff just started. I was wondering if you guys had to personally sign the pact with Reid when you started or were you grandfathered in as "the Inky guys"??? Hey Andy, you big baby stop crying like a little girl with a skinned knee.

Tell em Reid! And tell me that they are wrong, please. Not a good sign to have our star middle linebacker out for the season and questions surrounding the Andrews brothers and the signing of our number one pick. Gimmi some good news for a change.

phillyin ATL then maybe Andy should stop leaking to his girlfriend Eskin. If everything is coming from Reid to all the media then all the media should get it at the same time

Uh, Andy.. a "pact" is something 2 people agree to do by mutual agreement.. you gave an order, and expected the media to do what you wanted....that's not a 'pact'. Reid acted like a baby when the helicopters caught them trying on different shoes at the Vet to determine which would be best for the new artificial turf, and if memory serves he acted like a child that day too. Andy: There was no reason to keep this a secret. Every news gathering source around had this story by late last night. It's not the Kremlin. Lighten up, concentrate on important things like, where the hell are you going to get a MLB... and , no, Jason Babin doesn't count.... Wait a minute, did I just slip and give inside info??? Sorry, Andy!

Nice going Andy! Your sorry display at not disclosing any injuries because the media learned of Bradley's ACL tear shows how immature you are. Fans are interested on the medical report of Bradley and it is your job to confirm or not confirm the ACL tear. Your idea of spanking the media by withholding this information will only bite you in the rear end. Just watch - the press will have a field day with this development!

What kind of an overbearing control freak must this guy be? He's had an easier time with his media regulars than any other sports figure in his ten years here. Maybe if he was so attentive to his two sons lives, they wouldn't be where they are today.

But of course wolfman Eskin doesn't get called out. What does Eskin have on Reid that he gets away with this stuff all the time?
