Reid expects Vick for Miami

POSTED: Friday, December 2, 2011, 2:50 PM
Eagles quarterback Michael Vick has been throwing on the side at practice for a little over a week. Coach Andy Reid said there’s “a pretty good chance” he’ll be able to play in the game against the Dolphins on Dec. 11. (DAVID MAIALETTI / Staff Photographer)

Eagles coach Andy Reid said that he expected Michael Vick to practice on Monday and that he thought there was a good chance the injured quarterback would be back for the Dec. 11 game at the Miami Dolphins.

Reid, following the Eagles' low-point-of-the-season loss to the Seahawks on Thursday, was asked by reporters at the NovaCare Complex if Vick would return for Monday's light practice. Vick hasn't practiced since he broke two ribs against the Cardinals on Nov. 13.

"I do. In what role, we’ll see," Reid said, according to a transcript released by the Eagles. "There’s a pretty good chance he’s back."

Vick has thrown the ball on the side for a little over a week, but Vince Young has taken all the reps at practice and started the last three games. Reid said he thought Vick would be ready to play against the Dolphins in nine days.

“I think so," Reid said. "I’d like to see him throw the ball and really put torque on it for at least a handful of throws or more than a handful of throws."

Reid would not commit to Young if Vick couldn't go for a fourth straight game. He was asked if he considered benching Young, who tossed four interceptions against Seattle, for Mike Kafka.

"Like I said, [Young] had a couple of beautiful throws," Reid said. "There were a couple he threw to the other team, but he had a couple beautiful throws where he came back and made some nice plays. To answer your question — no, I did not [consider benching Young]."

Young has thrown eight interceptions in three games as a starter.

In other injury news, Reid said that cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha, who suffered a concussion on Thursday, would start to follow the protocol for returning from such a head injury. He said that wide receiver Jeremy Maclin (shoulder/hamstring), cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie (ankle) and tackle King Dunlap (concussion) were progressing.

Reid also said that special teams ace Colt Anderson would undergo knee surgery to correct a torn ACL. Anderson's season is over and he will be placed on injured reserve. The Eagles will have to replace Anderson's spot on the 53-man roster.

They also signed cornerback D.J. Johnson to the practice squad.

Why? The team is out of control, there is no direction, and worse, insurrection. Seems to me AR needs to assert control, bench Jackson, and play some people who want to win the few games that they have remaining. Unless they all have been told to tank to get a draft pick.

Didn't the Eagles know Vick was made of glass when they signed him?

Who cares what Kafka can do if Vick is ready? He is signed to a 100 million so he is your QB like it or not. No reason to sit him. The injury stuff doesn't really bother me about Vick but as I have posted since last season, he is a turnover about to happen all game. Last year, Vick had 19Td and 1 INT at a point in the season but it was a mirage. He literally had fumbled 6-7 times during that period and got lucky the Eagles somehow recovered them all. He also threw a minimum of 10-12 INT's that were just plain dropped. Now I know that DB's drop INT's or else they'd be WR but when it all evens out at least 8 of those dropped INT's get caught. I never understood how AR could watch the film and not think it mattered. He looks exactly like the player from last year except that this year he isn't getting ridiculously lucky. Water finds its level.

Many complain that Vick gets hurt because of his running and his refusal to slide. But all the big hits I've seen him take, including the one that broke his ribs, have happened while he's been in the pocket. In short, Vick was the victim of a pass happy offense with a struggling O-line that included two rookies who were learning on the job. If we would've had a balanced attack while the new line was meshing, not only would Vick still be upright. We would've won a lot more games.

The only thing I'm interested in is the number of empty seats at the next home game; best way to send the message

Its funny how the fans here will turn their backs on players so quickly. Last year, Vick could do no wrong. When the TEAM has a bad season, you blame him. What a bunch of BS. We had the lead in 6 games with him in the 4th and our defense couldn't get off the field on 3rd down, yet you clowns blame Vick. We have the sorriest fans in the NFL..a bunch of crybaby losers

Karma is good. Definitely not worth $100 million. No athlete is worth that kind of money. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. Greedy. Admit mistakes were made because of greed and do it right the next time. Do the right thing the next time and don't be so greedy or stupid. It is a game people. Just a game, albeit fun to watch but just a game.

Unless the fans make a HUGE statement by 1)not showing up at the Jets and Redskins games AND 2)refusing to renew season tickets in large groups, I don't see the Eagles firing Reid. Too many well-connected writers and league people think Reid will get another year. In addition, Reid helped bring Vick here and coach him up(for a while at least). As much as I don't like Reid, and would like to see a huge change of direction in this franchise, I think the Eagles keep him. The Eagles let Rhodes coach in 1998, even though they knew all along it was his last year. Just as the Phils DID NOT want to fire Ed Wade(and reluctantly pulled the trigger when fans indicated that they were witholding season ticket money), the Eagles DO NOT want to fire Reid. The Eagles DO NOT care about championships; they care about remaining relevant(and PROFITABLE) over the long haul, regardless of record.

Carmine, don't wate your breath. They are losers. When people that look like them rape women, beat up thei wives and girlfriends they are all forgive and forget with that. But let a black man harm a DOG and they can't get past it. Since most of these won't let the dog thing go, posters are losers, I often wonder if their dogs don't perform the same duties for them, that a woman would, if they could get one?? Just a thought.

Can't stand Vick or Young as individuals. That said, Vick has hardly quit on this team. And Young was the best choice for a backup QB available. There's no reason to rush Vick back. Reid should play Young and Kafka until Vick's fully healed.
