Reid endorses Vick, but says of QB change: "We'll evaluate it as we go"

With Michael Vick struggling and getting hit far too often, Eagles coach Andy Reid was asked if he would consider making a change at quarterback.
"Right now, we're with Michael and that's what we're doing," Reid said Monday after the Eagles' 27-6 loss at Arizona. "We'll evaluate it as we go."
It was the faintest endorsement Reid has given his starting quarterback as questions about Vick's job security mount with each subpar outing. The Eagles are 2-1, but Vick has handed in two dreadful performances and another that was not without its mistakes.
Reid was later asked Monday if he needed to give rookie backup Nick Foles more snaps in practice because Vick is seemingly only more blow away from another serious injury.
"No, not right now," he said.
Foles, who performed well in the preseason mostly against reserves, has yet to take an NFL snap.
In three games, Vick has thrown six interceptions and been charged with three fumbles. He's thrown just three touchdowns, ran for another, and has been sacked nine times. Vick's passer rating is 66.2 and ranks 29th in the NFL.
Vick took 13 hits in the pocket against the Cardinals, according to the official stat sheet, but there were many others that he endured Sunday.
The Eagles host the 2-1 New York Giants on Sunday night.
Not nearly enough running plays. On pass plays, Mike takes entirely too much time looking down his progressions. Andy/Marty need to tell him to count to 5, then either scramble or throw the ball away. They also need to get a little more creative with the play-calling. My awesome arm-chair QB abilities allow me to guess 7 out of 10 plays. If I'm that good - consider another coach!! Come on guys, not rocket-science here. Leo Getz
He'll stick with Vick until he feels his job is in jeopardy. Vick will probably be on the sidelines on crutches when the 2nd half starts on Sunday night. Then Reid will blame losses on a roookie QB who should have had the advantage of more game experience. He's like Obama: it's never his fault. An offensive game plan that called for passing 50+ times against a swarming/blitzing Cards team is a recipe for a 27-6 thrashing. Reid cannot adapt on the fly as winning NFL coaches. Lurie needs to replace him after the season. 1republican
You folks bashing him should try to throw the ball so real good under these hard conditions. maldorer
First I have been an Andy fan but let be honest he has the same speech every week. He makes a offense line coach the Def. Coach, that is bright. You spend all this money on Def. they were man handles yesterday by Kolb who all know is terrible.
Now let's get to Vick, everyone seems to forget before his trouble how great this guy was. He was the first QB to go into Green bay and win a playoff game not Black QB any QB. The guy is a small guy we all know that and he is running for hos life granted he is throwing interceptions the WR are not getting seperation and he is making bad throw. But if you watch all these game he is under constant duress. How do you pay 100,000,000. for a QB and not get him quality protection. The offensive play are out dated and predictable. Shadey barely touches the ball and now it is obvious that Reid is getting out coach and will start using Vick as the scapegoat. Yesterday was not lost on O. it was lost on D they made Kolb look like Montana eagle7
conVick stinks with his schoolyard/playground/parkinglot play 11 turnovers in three games is a joke, any other QB would be benched, donovan and KK would be benched,i don't know why bigred sticks with this criminal he's washed up.you live by the conVick you die by the conVick..conVick will never win a SB he's wasting our time..KK has a chance of winning a SB with arizona book it,,he's beat the SB favorites new england on the road all ready,,KK is joe cool in the pocket,,joe montana didn't have the strongest arm in the NFL but he had NFL brains something conVick lacks..bye bye conVick you stole a 100 million $$ from the fans but you won't have to go back to the slammer..LOLOL,my man.....wolf. wolf 4
Michael Vicks mistakes are so predictable that any defensive coordinator will know what he is going to do before the ball is snaped. When he rolls right all he CAN do is throw the ball away. When he roll left there is always a defender ready to smash him. When he holds the ball in the pocket you just know a disaster is in progress. The mistakes are in addition to the fumbles and int's that are always looming.Almost anybody else would be an upgrade. If MV finishes the season as the starter Andy Read will be long gone.Anyone want to bet on the bye week as Andy's last hurah? phillyfanincal
g Professor1982- Vick's struggles aside -- and am NOT directing at this at all the fair critiques on here -- but lets call a spade a spade. For all those that keep making the asinine statement that Vick is "dumb", stop hiding behind code words. Anybody who knows anything about social issues knows that racists like to pretend that POC are less intelligent than white people. So stop hiding behind the keyboard and man up with your statements.
- ...by the way, in my opinion, it's not a lack of football IQ that is Vick's problem (actually that idea is laughable), it's his habitual mistakes of trying to do too much...On that Safety blitz, Vick stated he knew it was coming but assumed McCoy was gonna pick it up -- which McCoy blew the assignment.
So it's not actually some supposed lack of intelligence that is causing Vick's mistakes, it's his failure to correct tendencies that you just cannot have if you're gonna effectively run any offensive system. He has the tools, intelligence, experience and it-factor to get the job done; but he has got to just play within himself and the offensive system...and that's not to excuse AR & MM's failure to correct their own faulty tendencies.
Great to learn Andy endorses Vick but who in their right mind can endorse Andy? How many times can Andy say I did a poor job before it costs him his job?
Deciding not to take the 3 points @ 0:06 & limp into the locker room only down 17-3 was too painful, too stupid. But to wind up with a swing of 10 points not only losing the sure 3 & giving away a quick 7 was the real end of the game & any possible further interest in playoff hopes.
Vick is just plain too stupid for the position, period. Like his 'endorser,' Vick is incapable of change & growth. Nothing good for these birds until Andy, Vick & Marty are gone. Someone please wake Lurie up & hand him a hook for these miserable excuses for professionals.
Somewhere van Brocklin must be turning over in his grave. narkose3535
Tyrone is fake. Its someone posting what he thinks certain people would say and how they would say it. Dont fall for it fools. And yes you can say Vick is not a good Qb because the numbers bear it out, not because of his color. Sure those people exist, but his color does not make him immune to criticism. peteike
THIS is the Eagle's $100M QB.

lol , i can't believe how many people think nick foles is the 2nd coming after throwing a few passes to Damaris Johnson in the preseason against guys who are working for UPS now... psmitty73- I agree that Vick has a lot of issues but changing QB's will never happen this year unless he goes down with an injury. Reid will not bench him after convincing Lurie to give him an obscene contract. We all know how arrogant Reid is so he will never sit him which will be admitting he has made another huge mistake. However, I do not care who you have at QB, they will not succeed when your opponent knows you will pass the ball 80% of the time. We have a great running back in McCoy but Reid perfers that he warms the bench. Every teams DC KNOWS the plays we run before we run them, PASS, PASS, PASS. If we would only run the ball more it would take some pressure off of Vick.
No matter what happens this year (it will not be good) Lurie will not fire Reid during the season, he will wait until the season is over. Our season will be over after the 17th week.
