Reid endorses Vick, but says of QB change: "We'll evaluate it as we go"

Who was most responsible for James Sanders’ fumble return TD vs. the Eagles on Sunday?
Michael Vick, for not recognizing the blitz.
LeSean McCoy, for not blocking the right defender.
Andy Reid, for not kicking a field goal.

With Michael Vick struggling and getting hit far too often, Eagles coach Andy Reid was asked if he would consider making a change at quarterback.

"Right now, we're with Michael and that's what we're doing," Reid said Monday after the Eagles' 27-6 loss at Arizona. "We'll evaluate it as we go."

It was the faintest endorsement Reid has given his starting quarterback as questions about Vick's job security mount with each subpar outing. The Eagles are 2-1, but Vick has handed in two dreadful performances and another that was not without its mistakes.

Reid was later asked Monday if he needed to give rookie backup Nick Foles more snaps in practice because Vick is seemingly only more blow away from another serious injury.

"No, not right now," he said.

Foles, who performed well in the preseason mostly against reserves, has yet to take an NFL snap.

In three games, Vick has thrown six interceptions and been charged with three fumbles. He's thrown just three touchdowns, ran for another, and has been sacked nine times. Vick's passer rating is 66.2 and ranks 29th in the NFL.

Vick took 13 hits in the pocket against the Cardinals, according to the official stat sheet, but there were many others that he endured Sunday.

The Eagles host the 2-1 New York Giants on Sunday night.

If you knew anything about football, and you don't, you would s it's Vick who is taking too much time behind the line. He can't read defenses, he is too short to see over the linemen. A lot has happened since Vick came intthe NFL. Every players got a lot taller and stronger. This is not a game for 5'11" quarterbacks anymore.

O-line was shot to pieces and Vick was running for his life nearly every play. Play calling didn't help either. Say what you want about his ability to read defenses, but he is getting thrown under the bus by the entire offense. Do you really think Nick Foles would be doing any better right now? Sure he's a bit taller and can take some hits, but he is not nearly as elusive as Vick, and with our O-line problems, the last thing we need is a dejected Vick and an injured Foles. They need to sort out the O-line pronto and be more balanced on offense, heck maybe they should try some end-arounds with Jackson or some flea flicker action. Try to confuse the defenses a little. It would also be nice if our defense and special teams would be consistently great. We are losing the field position battle nearly every week. It's not all on Vick guys, look at the whole picture please. Coaching, defense, special teams - the Eagles are inconsistent in all three phases.

Of course he endorses Michael Vick! Isn't he the one who said MV should get that ridiculous $100M contract?

Without an offense line to provide protection, any QB will be looking at the grass on the field after almost every snap. It is ridculous that the defense is in the backfield the same time the ball is there on the snap. It won't be long until the ball is snapped to a defensive lineman.

My prediction, Eagles will stomp the Giants this weekend, getting us all hyped up again, then inexplicably, will not show up focused for the Steelers, and lose badly.

Vick is too dumb and is confused by the defenses and doesn't know where to throw it....that's why Vick holds onto the ball WAY too long and gets sacked and fumbles.

Right now, Vick is 29th of the 32 starting NFL QBs in QB rating. I don't know that Foles could be any worse. We'll find out soon enough after the G-Men knock him out of the game after Andy calls 10 straight empty backfield shotgun passes.

I am not on the anti-Vick train, but at this point they may have to go with Foles simply for the fact that even if Vick somehow avoids injury he will be too worn down by game 12 or so to really be helpful. By that point, it's almost too late to start Foles. Maybe let Vick start until the bye week, and then introduce Foles. Either way, barring a miraculous turnaround, it appears this will be the last season for Vick in Philly (unless he's willing to restructure his contract and take a back-up role).

Jackson was terrible again, he now plays not to get hurt and will only catch the ball if nobody is within 20 feet. That play where he was signaling to the Ref when the ball was still in the air was unbelievable.

College ball doesn't work in the pros. You need mobile QB, not a running back with an arm, in spite of all of the annual fawning at ESPN over the latest college QB who will break the mold.

I wish all you fake reporters slash anlyst shut up look they played bad and yes Jackson ducked but he lived to play another down. As for Vick he holds the ball to long in the pocket but he is also the same guy who makes big plays for us as well as Jackson something we must overlook but the real question is when will mgmt put the fire under Andy Reid 3 downs at the 1 yard line and you pass the ball and then we throw the ball almost 70% of the time then we decide to run once we were down by 24 points!!! its time for the coaches to feel the heat the love affair is over
