Reid endorses Vick, but says of QB change: "We'll evaluate it as we go"

Who was most responsible for James Sanders’ fumble return TD vs. the Eagles on Sunday?
Michael Vick, for not recognizing the blitz.
LeSean McCoy, for not blocking the right defender.
Andy Reid, for not kicking a field goal.

With Michael Vick struggling and getting hit far too often, Eagles coach Andy Reid was asked if he would consider making a change at quarterback.

"Right now, we're with Michael and that's what we're doing," Reid said Monday after the Eagles' 27-6 loss at Arizona. "We'll evaluate it as we go."

It was the faintest endorsement Reid has given his starting quarterback as questions about Vick's job security mount with each subpar outing. The Eagles are 2-1, but Vick has handed in two dreadful performances and another that was not without its mistakes.

Reid was later asked Monday if he needed to give rookie backup Nick Foles more snaps in practice because Vick is seemingly only more blow away from another serious injury.

"No, not right now," he said.

Foles, who performed well in the preseason mostly against reserves, has yet to take an NFL snap.

In three games, Vick has thrown six interceptions and been charged with three fumbles. He's thrown just three touchdowns, ran for another, and has been sacked nine times. Vick's passer rating is 66.2 and ranks 29th in the NFL.

Vick took 13 hits in the pocket against the Cardinals, according to the official stat sheet, but there were many others that he endured Sunday.

The Eagles host the 2-1 New York Giants on Sunday night.

Vick did poorly all last season. He was supposed to improve to earn his starting job. He has not improved one iota. These are facts. I do think they should have stuck the kid in for a few plays in the real season here and there. First to give a winded Vick a chance to catch his breath, and second to see if he has what it takes in real time. I don't think letting the kid have a few downs is going to kill us. It also sharpens Vick to let him know he has some competition. If the kid throws a few interceptions then the fans will begging for Vick back. If not, then the best quarterback should be playing, not the most expensive one.

We really miss Jason Peters but Vick's decision making is not the O lines fault.

Once again Andy Reid has backed the wrong horse.

What did they call Mike Vick? Oh yea, the coach killer.

    1. It's kind of ironic that you are posing the question of whether or not mrwright252 is dumb. Have you noticed your poor grammar and spelling?
    2. Vick did not save Reid's job by forcing him to "dumb Klob." That doesn't even make sense if you meant that Reid dumped Kolb. Trading Kolb didn't save Reid's job.

If the Eagles want to have any chance of being successful on offense they need to change the play calling. Vick is best when he is scrambling and moving out of the pocket. When you have him sitting in the pocket firing 20+ yard passes all game it is going to lead to a negative result. When he is out of the pocket he has option to scramble for yardage or pull the defenders in and open up the receivers. Kolb all game yesterday was firing 5-10 yard quick passes. Meanwhile Vick is standing there waiting for a 30 yard pass to develop and getting crushed in the pocket. Last time I checked we had 4 downs to make 10 yards.....not 1 down

I respectfully disagree with your assessment. Vick is actually a terribly inaccurate passer while throwing on the move. Just because you are a running QB doesn't mean you throw well on the run, just that you run well. That is the issue. A sub six foot QB who can't throw out of a moving pocket especially to his right and is only mediocre while in the pocket. He can't do the real move which is to to step up into the pocket instead of moving laterally becasue he will get the ball batted down. He can't take less than a full t to 7 step drop back bc he is too small and slow of mind to make the decision. Also a bad decision while throwing on the run usually means throwing across his body into an armada of waiting defenders. The Eagles should be encouraging him to take off and run more because that is what makes him dangerous and stops teams from blitzing when he slips through and goes for 50. If he gets hurt, then next man up. It's better than asking him to p,ay a game he isn't capable of playing.

3 games of lousy performance by Vick. What does Andy need to prove Vick will not improve?

Vick is HIstory!!!! They will find a excuse to deep six him next week and 15 play REid will look for another victim for his failed system. THe Fans are for the most part comatose so nothing that happens will faze them, they will keep on paying the money and the Fantasy game will keep on being played.

Vick looks tired and battle worn. HE is no puppy anymore and the style of play has taken its toll. Has anybody else noticed he is getting caught more and more from behind by LB's and DE's? He used to outrun those guys but now is getting tracked down. A Vick who has lost a step is indeed the 29th best QB in the league.

He's tired, worn out, ineffective? Maybe someone should swing him by the legs and smash his skull against a brick wall, as he did with his own bloody hands. That's how he handled his own athletes.

At this point... for Mike's safety I want the idiot Philly fans who place all of the blame for this teams failures on Vick to get what they want. Some of you idiots are clamoring for a career loser in Nick Foles who's best accomplishment in college was being a 2 time honorable mention recipient. Pre NFL injuries for Foles include: Torn Labrim, Dislocated Knee, pulled oblique, and broken bone on non throwing hand. College career winning percentage 45%, bowl games reached when he came in as the established starter 0... but I Know, Foles had a bad team right??? Bull! Yes Andy, give them what they want please do it and when you do be sure and call the same plays for Foles that you call for Vick. Let the Philly fans have their golden boy and all the losing and mediocraty that will come with it.

Release Vick and YOU CAN HAVE NICK!
