Reid endorses Vick, but says of QB change: "We'll evaluate it as we go"

Who was most responsible for James Sanders’ fumble return TD vs. the Eagles on Sunday?
Michael Vick, for not recognizing the blitz.
LeSean McCoy, for not blocking the right defender.
Andy Reid, for not kicking a field goal.

With Michael Vick struggling and getting hit far too often, Eagles coach Andy Reid was asked if he would consider making a change at quarterback.

"Right now, we're with Michael and that's what we're doing," Reid said Monday after the Eagles' 27-6 loss at Arizona. "We'll evaluate it as we go."

It was the faintest endorsement Reid has given his starting quarterback as questions about Vick's job security mount with each subpar outing. The Eagles are 2-1, but Vick has handed in two dreadful performances and another that was not without its mistakes.

Reid was later asked Monday if he needed to give rookie backup Nick Foles more snaps in practice because Vick is seemingly only more blow away from another serious injury.

"No, not right now," he said.

Foles, who performed well in the preseason mostly against reserves, has yet to take an NFL snap.

In three games, Vick has thrown six interceptions and been charged with three fumbles. He's thrown just three touchdowns, ran for another, and has been sacked nine times. Vick's passer rating is 66.2 and ranks 29th in the NFL.

Vick took 13 hits in the pocket against the Cardinals, according to the official stat sheet, but there were many others that he endured Sunday.

The Eagles host the 2-1 New York Giants on Sunday night.

wow lol its funny because vick hasnt done anything to prove he should keep the starting job thus far but yeah lets keep your golden boy qb as the starter and leave a possible diamond in the rough on the bench. all though the play calling sucks and i cant totally blame vick he has his fair share of blame in all of this but hey nothings ever his fault...

Let Vick get destroyed by this years version of the Oline. Let Nick play next year with healthy Peters and Kelce back.

Reid, Morninwheg and Vick are all playing right into Lurie's wheelhouse. 'Unacceptable' 8 and 8? Not looking very likely. New coaching regime on-board by the week of the Super Bowl? If I was a betting man, that's where my money would be.

Reid will stick with Vick until he feels desperation. That might be like 5-6 or 5-7....as soon as Reid thinks the playoffs might be in jeopardy, he will look to Foles to save his job. Make no mistake, Reid is about Andy and no one else. He is hoping that Vick will turn super human by not totally endorsing him. But Vick can't respond because he really does not have the brain required to run a complicated offensive system against a complicated blitzing defense.

With the worse O-line in NFL what you expect Mike do? The fat firemen, Herman, the center stink. Celak can't help with blockin, hes too slow and soft for pickin up blitzing linebacker. This team in trouble if the dumb arse O-line don't give Mike some help.

Yes, Michael is trying to do too much by himself....and in turn getting hit or exposing himself to more hits...But think about this for a moment....with AR's offensive line of "can't play" Bell, "all mouth" Mathis, "3rd teamer" Reynolds, and a fat fireman who still can't play..... what are his choices....Not all the hits are his fault....and since he is the only one who can make things happen in AR's schemes and game plans....why would he not hold the ball and hope someone, anyone, will get open.......and think about this.....If Shady is so dam good, why won't AR call his number in an effort to slow down the rush....or why not 3 step drops and quick plays to Celeck, or screens......I am not saying Michael is without fault.....but try to think why he is put in the position of bailing out AR and Marty's weak game planning......and you think a rookie is going to make all those things right.....Until AR makes good picks in the O-line and hires real o-lineman, any QB is going to get killed...and until he scraps his system and works on how to defeat a defense he will win nothing, unless Michael somehow performs a miricle, ala Browns or Ravens finishes.......Michael is getting hung out to dry by a coach who is too stubborn to adjust and too dumb to pick good lineman...

Tyrone....are you an English teacher? Vick has to throw the damn ball before the blitz gets there! Guys like Brady, Brees, and Manning are slow footed but take less sacks because they don't run around like an idiot! Make the read, go through the progression and throw it! He has the ability but not the brain.

Vick will be the starter until he gets injured...which will be sooner rather than later if Andy insists on throwing the ball 70% of the time with a crappy OL.
    Only in Philly...

The guy has had 3 years to learn how to play QB. He either can't or won't learn to:
    Read defenses
    Slide
    Find receivers
Other than that he has been great.
I was a supporter when he came to the IGGs but he is an obvious loser with either a hard headed attitude toward teaching or learning his craft or - worse - he's too stupid to understand what it takes. Give Foles a chance to fill in or bring in Edwards. Either would be better than watching the stumbler toss away opportunity after opportunity.

I laugh when I hear all the talk about how Vick has to stop absorbing all these hits. I say, bring 'em on. That way, once he's mangled into a pretzel, benching him won't be a judgment call by Reid, but a sheer necessity.

How the $#&@ do you expect the Mike Vick Experience to put on a show if he doesn't have time? Can you only enjoy 15 minutes of the Walking Dead? You might because that's what this O line is going to turn Mike Vick into. A zombie! How many hits are enough? When will Fat Andy realize that Mike Vick will eventually be out for the season if he doesn't protect his QB? The Eagles are teetering on extinction if they don't figure out the O line and get Mike Vick in a better position to make plays! GO MIKE VICK GO!

what better test to see if foles is of nfl caliber than to put him up against the gmen i mean if vick is gonna fumble throw interceptions and what not and is ranked with the crappy rookie qbs at the bottom of the league why not give foles a chance. what difference will it make either he does great and proves vick might have some fault in it or he gets destroyed and turnsover the ball which would be the same thing vick wouldve done. not totally blaming vick because the play calling is ridiculous and has been for a very long time. there are ways to beat the blitz if we know that is every teams weapon against vick why cant we counter. makes no damn sense man...
