Reid: Eagles have talked trades

Will the Eagles do better after the bye than they did before the bye?
Yes. The Giants, 49ers and Bills played better than expected before the bye, and the Cowboys, Bears and Cardinals look like wins for the Eagles after the bye.
No. The way the Eagles are playing now, I won’t predict a win until I see one.

Andy Reid said that the Eagles have had discussions with other teams about potential trades with the NFL's trade deadline looming Tuesday at 4 p.m.

"Everybody’s calling everybody right now," the Eagles coach said. "That’s what takes place. So to tell you that we haven’t talked to anybody, I can’t tell you that."

The Eagles are seen as both potential sellers and buyers in the market because they do have depth at certain spots, but are also light in other areas. For instance, with defensive end Brandon Graham eligible to come off the physically unable to perform list next week, a veteran like Juqua Parker could be expendable.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Sunday that Parker's name has been brought up in trade discussions.

“If that’s the route we go," Reid said. "We’ve got an abundance at a couple different positions so we’re not forcing any one position to do anything. People ask those types of questions ... so you evaluate what’s going to benefit the Philadelphia Eagles the most when you do these deals."

Reid was evasive about Graham's activation, although he said that he expects the second-year player to start practicing next week. Per NFL rules, the Eagles have three weeks to make a decision on Graham, who had knee surgery last December.

As for other areas of depth on the Eagles' roster that teams could be eyeing, the Eagles do have three starting-caliber cornerbacks in Nnamdi Asomugha, Asante Samuel and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. The latter two would be the more likely to be moved.

The NFL's trade deadline is not as busy a time period as it is in other professional sports. The Eagles, despite Sunday's 20-13 win over the Redskins, are still just 2-4 heading into the bye week, so they could be looking to shake up the roster with ten games to play.

-- Reid said that Michael Vick was tested for a concussion following the hit he took on the back from Redskins safety LaRon Landry. On the play Vick initially looked seriously hurt as Washington linebacker London Fletcher apparently held him up and called for Eagles trainers. Reid later said that Vick just had the wind knocked from him. Vick said he only got dirt in his eye.

Fletcher "is a smart guy," Reid said. "He tried to bring a little attention to it, and I love the way he plays, he tried bring attention to things. Mike was trying to pull away from him and he made sure he held on to him and tried to get him out of there. Mike was okay, and right when he came to the sideline he said he was fine."

-- Reid said that there was a chance defensive end Trent Cole (calf) and tackle Jason Peters (hamstring) could return to practice next week. The two starters have missed the last two games. Reid said that the bye week should help tackle King Dunlap and his back spasms.

-- Offensive line coach Howard Mudd underwent hip replacement surgery on Monday. Reid said Mudd should be back in time for the Oct. 30 game against the Cowboys.

Parker has been a good solid player. Trade Ronnie Brown, Vince Young, Asante (I will never learn to tackle) Samuel. Or Graham himself. He didn't show anything before he was hurt. Throw in Justice.

Trade Brandon Graham for "Nothing" seeing that he did "nothing" before he got hurt! What do they think he's going to do now after an injury? I still can't believe they took this guy with Earl Thomas and Pierre Paul sitting right there! "DISGUSTING!"

Asante samuel is inconsistent is the stupidest thing ive ever heard.he consistently makes ints he consistently makes huge plays.hes a corner.they get beat sometimes.if a corner blows coverage one one play it will stand out.if he shuts down the reciever for every other play nobody notices that.

Trade the commenters on Philly.com for people who have some common sense. Trade Vick and Young for Tim Tebow and Ryan Mallett. Release Jason Avant and firee Andy Reid. Of course, the only sure thing that will happen is that they will fire Reid after a 4-12 season. Vick and McNabb out odf football bext year. You can take that to the bank.

Linebacker is the logical concern. The problem is where do they get a linebacker that is any good for what the Eagles are offering. As far as Vince Young is concerned, give the guy a break. Remember, he played in the pro bowl and we shouldn't judge him on the basis of one interception.

Trade Vince Young for a middle linebacker quickly. Doesn't make sense to trade Juqua Parker to stop the run. He's one of the few who can on this team.

Here is what should happen this week.

Ron Jaworski brought in as GM. Howie and Joe Banner sent back to the accounting office.

Start trading and rebuilding. Trade Vick,DJax,Assante,Asomugha,DRC. Start stockpiling picks so that this team has a future.

Brown and Smith have disappeared since their turnovers. And realy, what can you get for Parker. May be able to unload Young to Oakland now that Cambpell is hurt. And speaking of Campbell, do you think Shanahan was sorry he got rid of him, after seeing what his replacements Mcnabb and Grossman have done for his Skins?

Vince Young and Asante Samuel aren't exactly good trade bait right now. Samuel needs one of his two interception games, and Young needs to win a game in relief.

signing ronnie brown and smith look like bad moves since neither is doing jack. How great would tulloch look in midnight green alongside either chaney or rolle? Say what you want about rolle, he might not be ray lewis but he is usually around the ball and thats a start.

Here's the summary of every trade ever suggested on a message board: Two to three of my team's injured/old/bad contract/malcontent/no-talents for your teams young talented player at a position we need. Why do you dopes think anyone else would take the players you don't want in the first place?

@republicrat - there was never a "disabled list". That's baseball. Football has either "injured reserve", which shuts a player down for the year, or the "PUP" (physically unable to perform) list, which you can put a player on during the preseason if they've got a long-term injury issue that might resolve itself early. A player must be activated from the PUP list by the end of week 6 or be placed on injured reserve for the remainder of the season.

Nobody that has a functioning brain in their head can't possibly believe this teams has any shot at a playoff spot. They tried to lose that game again yesterday. Zero points in the 2nd half, This team is a mess. Good win but there is a lot more losses to come, Dallas, Chicago, NYG, NYJ, Definitely New Eng. are all possible losses. So this team is looking at a real possible 5-11 season so don't bye into the trash Andy Reid spews out there.

Get over the LB dream, not going to happen. As I have said since Reid came here he is the only coach at any level that has a 'scheme' where he says his linebackers are not that important. Also, I had to cringe at Samuel's tackling technique on the play he got hurt. Lucky he's not paralyzed. How do you get to that level without a clue how to tackle a guy.

What GM would be big enough of a crackhead to trade for Juqua Parker, especially since they know either he or the midget CFL DE are going to be released if Graham is activated instead of DL'd? This isn't Madden FFS. Trade candidates:

    1) Asante Samuel - you never have enough CBs
    2) Vince Young - probably looks pretty good to the Raiders about now

I can't think of anyone else that anyone would want that we would part with.

bad idea to mess with secondary now - Samuel will get injured at some point and we will need DRC and NA to be starting corners. If they have to trade get a bigger SAM LB in here with experience and package VY out at the same time

I think it's surprising Ronnie Brown's name isn't floated around. Did he see the field yesterday? Di Lew appears more often. I say between Brown, VY, Parker & Samuel, there has to be some buyers. Some could get solid players or picks in return.

Juan nor Marty make trades sure they can suggest a trade but ultimately it's up to Andy, Howie and Joe to make the trade. The Eagles are notorious for wanting a bit much in trades. An ideal trade would be to send Ashante to a team needing a corner for a LB that can cover and run support to replace Foku. Trading for BDawk would be nice because he is an Eagle for life, but would he want to come here just to be a cheer leader on the side line because he won't get much playing time and he won't do special teams. Ashante, Foku and Parker are trade prospects we just need a player in return for one of those guys not a draft pick, preferably a SAM LB. Gotta look at salary too, Ashante won't be coming cheap.

Addition by subtraction: Samuel for anything. Safeties played better yesterday because DRC was covering his guy, not taking chances and leaving holes for the safeties to fill. If you can get a 4th for him, do it. Then resign Jackson. Dunno why it's taking so long. And so long Steve Smith. Can't believe we don't sign Tulloch but him instead.

Asante Samuel should go he's way too inconsistent. And some of these players who can’t stay healthy. If I guy gets hurt every year and can’t play a whole season it's crazy to keep him. Need big proven LB's in their place. And get rid of Kelch and Mathis the 2 rednecks that harassed some fans over a sign. We need guys like Vince Wilfork.

Wow, you obviously have no clue what you're talking about, Let's just call Bill and ask him for his HOF 400lb 3-4 NT who could never play the 4-3 simply due to his size. When he asks us what we're smoking, we can just tell him epalmer said so. Samuel is way too inconsistent yet leads the league in INTs from 2006-present....when #22 is making tackles it means someone in the front 7 messed up; his job is to get INTs.
