Projected Eagles Depth Chart
Jeff McLane, Inquirer Staff Writer
It’s a long way until the season opener on Sept. 12, but with the Eagles reconvening Friday for mandatory minicamp coach Andy Reid will get his first on-field look at the team he and general manager Howie Roseman assembled this off-season.
With the addition of 13 draft picks and 11 other acquisitions, there are a lot of new faces. On Saturday, Reid was asked if he may need to have his new players wear name tags around the NovaCare Complex.
“I’ll tell you, it’s going to be tough on you [reporters] and it’s going to be tough on me, too,” Reid said. “We’ll get it all done. It’ll be a challenge for these guys to make sure that their name stands out. Stand out and show us what they can do.”
That goes for a number of the veterans, too. Some may quibble with several of the new additions, but if the Eagles did anything this off-season it was to create competition -- especially on the defensive side of the ball.
There are at least five starting spots on defense and many more roster spots up for grabs. So let the race begin and may the best men win.
Here’s how Reid and his assistants might have the depth chart aligned after this past week’s draft and heading into minicamp. Bear in mind, this isn't a prediction of how the depth chart should look, but merely a reflection of how I envision the Eagles will list it after this coming weekend:
Rookies are in bold.
Off-season acquisitions in italics.

This team is going to suck albanykey
That's a pretty sorry secondary tampaPhillyfan- When is next year's draft? TVGuy22
we trade up to 13 and the guy isnt even a projected starter...swell SWP
I was disappointed with the Eagles' first trade-up to get Brandon Graham, not because he may not be an impact player, but because they had to give up the two third round draft picks. Had they stood pat, they would have been in position to get an impact cornerback, which seemed to be their biggest need. Also, they could have come away with at least three if not four very good players in the first three rounds. As it stands now, they only appear to have come away with two good players. tbird
No starters? At best two back-ups?!! When coaches believe that they are smarter than the rest of the league and their own scouts, this is what you get. Just look at Denver where McDaniels beleives he can coach-up anyone (e.g. Tebow). LA Mike
Nate Allen can show up with a broken leg and he'll be ahead of Macho Harris on the depth chart. BIG_PHILLY
great - 2 of the 4 DB positions show starting a guy who's injured - that is too funny - and how can you show your 2nd round pick as a 3rd string behind Macho Harris? Someone kill me now! Tom Man
We still look a little thin at SAM, corner, Oline and DT. Hopefully we can find some help in the form of undrafted free agents. PhillyTru
Comment removed.
6-10 this season, hopefully that allows us to address our OL and secondary needs in the next draft. Tar Heel 1
Guys: It's APRIL! This is a depth chart written by a newspaper guy to make the readers comment. More "whoa, we suck" comments means more people reading future blogs and articles. Youngest team in NFL, wouldn't we all agree a step back in 2010 to build for a long run is a pretty good trade off? Or, would you want another 10-6 record, including the annual bad losses (or ties) and falling flat early in the playoffs? I am cautiously optimistic. Bigger concerns are the Phils; rotation may be worse this yr than last. KING~out thee~KING- I think Ricky Sapp should be at the SAM. Please tell coach Reid.
McLane understands that teams often don't list rookies as starters in the first depth chart, including those that they feel should be starters on opening day. Raggamonkey
