An Eagles source has confirmed that the team has agreed to a deal that will send two draft picks to the Buffalo Bills for two-time Pro Bowl offensive tackle Jason Peters. The Bills will get the 28th overall pick of the first round and a fourth-round selection in this year's draft.

The source said that Peters has passed a physical, but the trade will not be completed until the Eagles negotiate a new contract with Eugene Parker, the agent for the 340-pound tackle. Peters was in a much-publicized contract dispute with the Bills last summer, holding out of training camp until just before the start of the season.

He has two years remaining on his existing deal and is scheduled to be paid $3.8 in 2009 and $3.4 million in 2010.

This move would be phenomenal. Our #1 need (in my opinion) met with a young, All-Pro player? This would be a great trade/signing and leave us with ammunition in the draft to still pick top players (RB / TE) or trade (Boldin or Gonzalez?). Our line went from being a concern to a strength with the signing of Andrews and trading for Peters. I am excited if this happens and praise the front office for getting it done.

Well, this clearly means no trade for Boldin, or at least I hope it doesn't. We need to take moreno with #21. But I agree Peters is much better than anyone else could have gotten at 28 (or even 21), like Beatty or Britton. But he's gonna be the highest paid guy on the team now.

27 year-old Pro-Bowl LT vs. 29 year-old Pro-Bowl WR. Well, Tackles usually seem to have a longer life-span in the NFL... and this guy is already younger. This might be a nice long-term investment for the Eagles, as long as this guy stays happy with his salary.

JimCollins, you got me. It's Don "Donnie Brasco" Banks here, lol. I did read his draft, but 80% of the drafts I've seen have them picking Moreno at 21 so it's not a direct line from Banks' draft to that thought. We need another RB to bridge the gap to the future and shoulder some of the load off of Westy. I'd rather they took Wells, but Moreno can catch a lot better than him so I think the front office would go for him. I don't think you pickup a WR at 21, and I hope they don't take pettigrew there either. With the LT need filled, I think you absolutely have to to RB there, unless somehow one of the great Defensive prospects falls to you (and by great I mean Orakp, Raji, Ayers, who will in all likelihood be gone by 21).

LT-Peters LG-Herremans RG-Andrews RT-Andrews That's an impressive 80% of line for the next 4-5 years. Fullback Weaver. Let's get another RB to complement Westbrook. Now AR just needs to figure out how to call some running plays.

LT-Peters, LG-Herremans, RG-Andrews, RT-Andrews. Impressive 80% of O-line for 4-5 years - that should make for a great matchup with Giants. I wouldn't mind seeing Alex Mack as an Eagle to complete the cycle - but get Moreno please!

I've been saying for weeks that the most likely trade would be acquiring Peters rather than any of the WRs. This is a really good move for the Eagles. They get to keep the #21 pick and don't have to give up a 3rd rounder either. With 3 picks in the 5th round, they can now trade two of those and move back into the 4th round if they want to. The O-line now looks really good with Peters and Stacy Andrews and having Shawn Andrews back and healthy. This line could be dominating. We still have Jean-Giles and Cole on the bench for good depth too. It's pretty hard to acquire a Pro Bowl LT in his prime. The Eagles knew his price-tag on a contract extension going into this trade and they are immediately negotiating a new contract with him so that means they are willing to pay him in the neighborhood of what he's asking. All the Lurie, Banner and Reid haters out there...take that. All that whining that the Eagles don't try to acquire good players or that they won't spend money has always been nonsense. The Eagles have shown before that they'll sign or trade for top talent guys and spend money on them if they are in their prime...Troy Vincent, Runyan, TO, Kearse, Asante Samuel and now Peters. They still could make a run at Boldin if they really wanted to...I won't hold my breath on that one but it sure would be a pleasant surprise.

Seems like a great move by the Eagles. It's good to see them addressing a need rather than stockpiling their picks like they've done in the past. a late first rounder and a 4th rounder for a 27 year-old Pro Bowl OT is a steal.

The full trade according to CBS.com is the Eagles sent a 1st and 4th rounder this year plus a 6th rounder in 2010. But the deal is contingent on them signing him to a new deal. I also read on another Eagles fan board that ESPN950 is reporting the Eagles are negotiating with Jacksonville to trade the 21st and a couple of other picks to move up to 8th to select a WR--take your pick--Crabtree or Maclin.

this move should tell everyone exactly what value the Eagles place on Wide Receivers. Obviously, this was a larger void to fill and they did it. Probably just as well - Boldin sounds like he may have carried some baggage with his attitude.

Huge move. Love the get a WR, but this is more important. Their O-line is absolutely stacked now, which instantly makes the entire offense better. Now, just draft a good RB to spell (and eventually replace in a few years) Westbrook and a blocking TE, and it's a nice offseason (Dawkins disaster aside). Though honestly, I deal the other #1 for Boldin. Why risk what you'll get in the draft when you can get a legit stud WR? Getting Peters and Boldin is a hell of a lot better than what they'd get with the picks. And you still have your 2nd and 3rd rounders to get a RB and TE. Those moves would probably make them the team to beat in the NFC.

Great...now McNabb will have the time he needs for nobody to get open. I can't say I don't like the move...this guy is a young pro-bowler (although from what I've read he had some problems with his focus last year and gave up a ton of sacks...hopefully that was just his contract issues..not that he won't eventually have those here). And they may need a RB to spell BW and build for the future, but can we PLEASE get a freakin' receiver who can get open or at least a big body that can hold onto a ball. PLEASE!!!

Good solid move, makes allot more sense then trading our 1st two picks to take a tackle who may or may not be able to play. Now if we could package our 21st with our third and get Crabtree it could be an outstanding offseason.

This is an exceptional move by the Eagles. I am a regular critic of Andy Reid and the organization but this move along with signing Stacy Andrews is a great move. Andy now has a Pro Bowl Tackle and the Andrews Wall on the right side. Okay, they can protect Donovan now, who to throw the ball to? I'll expect Andy to do something more with Wideouts, TE and RB. Westbrook & Weaver; solid. Maybe a Braylon Edwards and a blocking TE out of the draft. Safety & Corner and another inside linebacker. Good job Eagles. Credit where credit is due. Thank you Andy and Tom and Joe for making these moves.

Great move Birds, especially if you look at the entire package, as the Birds gave up Otah and got Peters, allowed them to get both Desean Jackson and Trevor Laws last year (instead of just one) plus trade for Booker (eh) and get Demps. Now trade out of 21 for an early second (RB) and 4th (TE) this year and a first next year!

THANK God and Baby Jesus we'll never have to hear the drive killing call "holding offense # 72" again. I think it's tougher situation than trade for boldin now. do you trade away your other top pick and leave yourself only second rounders for RB? It's possible, I mean Westbrook was a fourth rounder. The Eagles WR corps is solid but not spectacular, their RB aging.

Rokit--if you're talking about RB at 53, I've seen names like Shonn Green, LeSean McCoy, and Donald Brown all in the 2nd round. Not sure how far they'd drop, but any of those guys could be a nice complement/future replacement for Westbrook. I think trading the other #1 is a safe move. Were all gonna cry when Boldin snags an Eli pass for a gm winning td to lose homefield advantage. Or if he goes to Dallas, that would be even worse. Lets get Plex on the cheap when he gets off the hook and no jailtime.

I am an eagles fan in buffalo. I am getting a lot of negative comments from the bills fans here. Peters did allow one of the most amount of sacks in the league last year. he had a terrible year last year but made the pro bowl off reputation. The year before he was considered one of the best young left tackles in the NFL. I like this trade and think he will be great now that he is with a real team. However I hate the idea that this almost certainly means no Boldin. Either way great move and now our o line is set.

Canuck: good points, although if we go RB in the first, Moreno is the better fit for our version of the west coast offense. I have read a lot about the fact that the RB's who will be available in rounds 2,3 and 4 are not much of a drop off from Wells/Moreno/Brown, so do not be surprised if they wait till later on RB, but it is a glaring need. Lo Book is not going to cut it and B West is due for a decline.

CLOWNS.....People who think Boldin would have been a better pickup obviously dont know a thing about football. You cant throw the ball to a wideout from your back, picking up Peters gives Mcnabb the oppurtunity to get the ball to the other wideouts we already have making them better. The guy is 27 and getting better since he was only converted to tackle from TE a few years ago. There is still a chance the eagles move up in the draft to pick up a wideout now that they dont have to focus on tackle not high enough for Crabtree but maybe Maclin or hopefully Heyward-Bey. Boldin is a great player but isnt worth giving up as much as they gave for Peters because tackles are more of a franchise player, receivers are nice but you can pick them up in the draft hopefully, pick up a big back either Wells or Moreno, hopefully Heyward-Bey works his way to us in the second trade up into the early second round to pick up one of the big wideouts that will be there.

Get Boldin - a proven stud. The price tag for the unknown with #21 is not worth it. There will be good backs (especially with this O line) in round two. Get Boldin and the Superbowl is within reach pass him and you'll defend him twice a year in NY! He finishes the package. Westbrook has a few good years and Celek is committed to being a better all round TE. Boldin makes the D play honest!

Birds will trade #21 for a 2nd this year, and a #1 next year (where they'll get their QB for 2010). They want TE Cook this year. Very smart!

That's one problem area solved and it means we can concentrate on RB rather than trading up for an OT. Get Moreno with the 21st and then package picks to move up again and get Pettigrew and the rest is gravy. Can all the "fans" who said the Reid isn't aggressive and the Eagles are cheap give it a rest now, at least for tonight? And do we really care than Heck didn't tell us they were looking at Peters before? Who really cares? This is the first of several more good moves to come, IMO.

I think the Eagles could give up the 21, Avant, and the 3rd in this draft for Boldin then use some of their extra second day picks and their second rounder to move up in the second rounder to get a RB Donald Brown is he's still on the board or trade the second for a third and fifth and get the big RB from Liberty. Seems like something they'd do.

Question for everyone, why do you want Wells? He's good...when he's healthy. We have a guy that's good when he's healthy, it's Westbrook. I am hoping that Moreno falls to us but I don't think that happens either. I would almost take Donald Brown instead of Wells.

While I won't argue that this conceivably elevates the OL (provided we get the '07 version of Peters rather than the '08), one has to wonder about how this will be received in the locker room. The Birds are throwing a lot of money at a guy who comes with some issues to go with the talent. We'll see ... As for the draft - RB is priority #1. Period. Moreno, Brown, even Wells, would be welcome.

This is a great move by the Eagles, now I'd like to see Nick Cole take over for Jackson at center. It gives them a huge, talented OL for years to come. If nothing else, that will save us from drafting offensive linemen with our first round pick every year. And while I love Anquan Boldin, there simply is no way that AR is going to pay $10m a year for a wideout with his "spread the ball around" philosophy.

We can still go for Boldin with a 3rd a 3 5th rounders. Why not spend those picks? That will leave maneuvering for Moreno and Pettigrew. We can pick up the blanks later with whatever and the un-drafted Free Agents we find so well for development and depth. With this picture we are suited up for the schedule. This gives us an awesome line for years with tremendous backups in case of long term injuries. Great acquisition, but finish the job with 1 more trade for WR (BOLDIN)and 2 outstanding picks at RB & TE. What trade bait do we have to package for a position to get a DL? Give Justice to the bills for a 3rd or 4th pick.

As a life long Cowboys fan I can understand the reason why most of you hate the Cowboys. With all the sucess the Cowboys have had (5 world Championships 8 SB appreances, countless Division titles, etc.) I can understand the envy coming from Philly. But as a Dallas fan we do not hate the Eagles. They really do not matter in the grand scheme of things. They've never done anything worth noting. The last ten years have been the banner era of the Eagles with a handful of division titles and one SB appearance but really that isnt much. I kind of feel for Eagle fans, they desperately want to be considered elite in a divsion with storied franchises but they just do not compare. Maybe one of these days the Eagles will gradute from "Red Headed Step Child of the NFC East" to "relevant". We're rooting for you guys but I don't see it happening.
About Birds' Eye View Blog

Bob Brookover, left, is in his seventh year of covering the Philadelphia Eagles after spending 15 years covering the Philadelphia Phillies for the Inquirer and two other newspapers. The 45-year-old Brookover lives in Delran with his wife Francine and roots for Notre Dame and Michigan State, the two schools attended by his children, Justine and Ryan. When Notre Dame plays Michigan State, he cheers for the school of the child he likes more at that particular moment.

Jeff McLane, right, joined the Eagles beat in April 2009 after two years of covering colleges, namely Penn State football. Before that he covered high school sports for The Inquirer. Before that he worked in the mailroom (not quite). Informed that his father is no longer covering the Lions, McLane's eldest, three-year-old son said, "You mean Simba, Scar and Mufasa, Daddy?" His two-year-old son -- excited about the move to the Eagles -- said, "Go, Deigo, Go!" or something like that. His wife of five-plus years, however, had a different take on the new job. "Another five years is in question," she said. Check out McLane on Twitter and Facebook for instant updates on the Eagles.
