Offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg discusses Michael Vick 3 years after signing
Zach Berman, Inquirer Staff Writer
On Aug. 13, 2009, the Eagles shocked fans and the football world by signing Michael Vick.
On Aug. 13, 2012, Vick is entrenched as the Eagles' starting quarterback.
"It's like an anniversary, huh? A celebration?" offensive coordinator Mornhinweg said. "I knew exactly what we were getting. Even though I hadn't met him three years ago, I will tell you, when we got him, it had been going on two years where he hadn't played. However, even then, he was still one of the great players in the game. That was my thought process there. I do know he has really worked to play the quarterback position at a high level. Now he's chased that perfection every day. He wants to become a master at that position, as well as being one of the dynamic players in the game."
Vick's tenure in Philadelphia has been marked by both excellence and injury, and the Eagles need to determine which quarterback they have this season. Vick suffered a left thumb contusion in Thursday's preseason game, but Mornhinweg said Vick is otherwise "having a terrific camp."
In the first preseason game, the Eagles' offense starters played only six snaps and had two three-and-outs. Mornhinweg said he was "extremely disappointed in more than several things" and expects better execution in next week's preseason game against the Patriots.
Vick's inability to get into a rhythm on Thursday was the byproduct of an offense that lacked precision, which was "one of things" that disappointed Mornhinweg.
Mornhinweg said Vick's pocket presence is an area in which he'll continue to improve. Mornhinweg referenced a sack against Pittsburgh that was well protected, and Vick moved himself into the sack.
"He can get better there, and he's certainly gotten better over the last couple years there," Mornhinweg said. "Now I do say if it was a regular-season game...he would have done that better."

- Could anything be more vague?
Maybe. Possibly. I don't know

if marty (kickoff in a overtime game) morninwood says conVick is a great qb then he must be one of the greatest running qb's in the nfl ...wolf. wolf 4
a stupid story about nothing by another stupid writer who has no crativity and no desire to find (dig) for a new story or a new angle.....but then again, he is jsut another Philly newspaper guy and we have grown to expect nothing from this no talent bunch nuggett
Story is as good as Vick's first 15 minutes of pre-season football. Injured and yucked.. Homersez
Nuggett-
Your comment has no "crativity". I have no desire to dig into it. fafink
Vick will be injured game one (hitting his hand on the football), Trent Edwards has a concussion game 2, and Foles will be the starter week 3. He''ll be blitzed so much that he'll feel like a DQ Sundae.
The team falls to 6-11, people say "wait till next year when Vick is finally healthy!" fmMD- 6-11 is 17 games dummy. Vick will be okay, we can predict all we want but who really knows what is going to happen until it happens.
how about, disappointing? mediocre? main liner
Its disgusting bthat bthis guy is the face of the franchise..he is a fake..a fraud...an ex con...a phoney...and to boot a lousy quarterback ...what he can do is run and the sooner he is run out of town the better. Thankfully this will be the last year we have to watch this loser flyers1000
With the ten negative comments so far, I'm glad I live in Pittsburgh. At least the fans and media don't spend their lives trying to verbally destroy the team. I grew up in Philly and support the Philly teams, but this is over the top. oakmontleo- Yeah its why I moved to Florida, I got sick of the snow and that grumpy Negadelphia attitude, I still love the teams but I hate these negative idiots rants. If they only knew how much that brings the teams down.
eagle fan for life
Been hearing the same balogna for 10 years. Geno D
I missed the Eagles over the off-season...their idiot fanbase? Not so much. girouxforpresident
Yes its the negative attitude that causes this team to under achieve every year. It surely has nothing to do with an overmatched head coach, a d coordinator who isn't qualifed to coach D at the high school level and a front office helmed by an intern who used to do mock drafts in his mom's basement. Hopefully someday the team gets better fans so they can succeed. All in Dream Team! Dynasty. Scope33
