Nate Allen: I'll be ready by summer

Eagles rookie safety Nate Allen said he'll be ready to play by the time training camp rolls around -- if there is a training camp.
Allen, recovering from a torn patella tendon, said he will be "100 percent" by the time training camp is usually held, late July.
He might not be ready by mini-camps -- again, if those happen -- but will be ready to run and cut by that time, which is usually around April.
Allen is right now working on his flexibility and strength -- doing body-weight squats and walking in a pool -- at the NovaCare complex. He's there from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Complicating his recovery is the potential NFL lock-out. If it happens, he will be barred from having any contact with the team. Allen said he hopes to get a complete rehabilitation schedule through June or July so he can keep working on it on his own, even though the cost will have to come out of the rookie's pocket. He plans to work out with private trainers in Arizona.
Allen said he had saved his money, just in case.

- Good to know. We'll need him. Hope the CBA doesn't mess with his rehab.
- That's terrible that the injured guys can't keep getting treatment by the team. At the least they should be forced to pay for it. Elbarad
- He better be! birds748
even though the eagles should pick up the tab for his rehab, you know they won't! i really like this kid and thought he played well this year. i sure hope he's ready next season! Geno D- Nate Allen played like garbage. Constantly took horrid angles to ball carriers and 2 of his 3 interceptions hit him in the numbers. He stinks.
- He was rookie playing in an overly complicated defense. The kid is gonna be great. He showed great potential. You were probably passed out during most of the games and missed it.
ej610 - The fact of the matter is that Nate Allen averaged less than 4 tackles a game this season. That is pitiful for a starting safety. I don't care what the defensive scheme is. He and the putrid Brandon Graham shouldn't even be on this team. Andy should have drafted Earl Thomas, but he had to try to outsmart everyone and it backfired, as usual.
- Glad to know he'll be "ready." As will all the QBs just dying to throw at him. Maybe our 230lb lineman will generate some sort of a pass rush...who knows.
i guess its fair to say allen stinks and played like garbage when your a rookie and starting at safety, playing a position that was held by legend in "dawkins" played 3/4 of a year and got hurt.oh! and by the way the d coordinator put him in positions to make plays and he didn't that's why they kept him and fired mcdermott. i almost forgot, his replacement gave a stellar performance against minnesota and dallas! i guess it's fair to say he stinks. Geno D
Coleman and Allen both played pretty good this year. Wait until they get used to the speed of the NFL, they will be a force. I don't think the pass rush was distruptive enough. If the QB is worried about the pressure he can't pick apart the CB. willbert31

It looks like he'll be a starter for the next 4-5 years, but not a game changer. Coleman can hit but can't cover. They should move him to take Mikell's place, who can do neither.

Good on him. It is too bad his rehab has inhibited what he should have been doing what was getting bigger and maybe a bit faster. I do not expect to see a change in his paying this year. Hopefully 2012 will be his year. Murrayag11
jcharles how come I don't see you on any NFL roster? Could it be because you never made a team in your life but like to disparage other players because "you could do it better". Nothing like knowing nothing and letting everyone in on the secret is there? Just sit back and enjoy the ride the Eagles provide every year and when you own a team we will be looking forward to hearing how you handle things. redhead with freckles- Oh, I get it. I don't get to comment because I'm not in the NFL. Brilliant. What exactly did this guy show you? He showed me a whole lot of nothing.
Hello where is my comment? redhead with freckles
gotta agree with Wilbert....been watching the Eagles for 40 years and I think we got a nice set of rookie safeties in Allen and Coleman. Despite all the negativity here, barring more injuries, I think this will play out as a real strong draft. Graham, Allen, Chaney, Cooper, and if Harbor and Lindley stick, that's a nice class. Though even if that scenario unfolds all we will hear from some of you is what an idiot Reid was for drafting T'eo. vincemcd
I think the owner doesn't care about the fans it's time to sell the team 658012
Pitchers and Catchers in 5 day's 658012- I think this kid is going to be good Sean's complicated scheme may not have brought out the best. Got high hopes hopes he comes back strong
LOL! What a joke. justacarpenter
I wouldnt say allen stinks but he cant tackle worth a damn. he has good ball skills, good blitzer, just cant tackle worth a damn. if u going to be a safety in the nfl u better know how to tackle. coleman is a good tackler always around the football just needs to work on his instincts. I think he is better than allen actually and coleman can play either saftey spot. dont expect mikals back if this cba is done bigjay215
