Matt Nagy spent this morning in a No. 9 red jersey as a member of the Eagles' 80-man training camp roster.

Afterward, the former University of Delaware and Arena League quarterback talked about the opportunity of a lifetime.

By the afternoon practice, his opportunity had vanished.

"Matt Nagy's contract was disapproved by the NFL," the Eagles said in a statement, adding that they would not attempt to re-sign the quarterback. "The team will look in another direction at quarterback position."

The Eagles had no further comment and Nagy also declined comment.

Nagy, 31, had already been in camp as a coaching intern when the Eagles signed him after quarterback Kevin Kolb suffered a sprained medial collateral ligament during Monday morning's practice. Nagy, who had never been invited to an NFL camp, was hoping to see his first game action in the Eagles' preseason opener Thursday against the New England Patriots.

A league source said the Eagles did not follow the proper procedure for a contract on a player who had been in another league, but that could not be confirmed by the NFL office.

"The NFL reviews all contracts and it's not uncommon for them to be disapproved," said Michael Signora, director of media relations with the NFL. "The club has the right to resubmit a contract once it has been disapproved, but only the club can reveal why a contract was disapproved."

So, it's ok for Nagy to be a coach and even throw to players in practice, but not a player?

The team has a game in 50 hours, and two quarterbacks ( Mc Nabb and Feeley) who can run the offense. Do I have that right ?

Are the Eagles interested in Vick? There are some web sites reporting that the Eagles are going after him. He would be a good addition to the team. He can play different positions.

Forget Vick...but perhaps they should bring in an insurance vet. Losman? Bollinger?

thats a shame for Nagy, dreams dashed, he was told he had the whole 4th Quarter to him..hope he catches on somewhere to win a spot. AFL is a joke, but some of their players are not.

About Birds' Eye View Blog

Bob Brookover, left, is in his seventh year of covering the Philadelphia Eagles after spending 15 years covering the Philadelphia Phillies for the Inquirer and two other newspapers. The 45-year-old Brookover lives in Delran with his wife Francine and roots for Notre Dame and Michigan State, the two schools attended by his children, Justine and Ryan. When Notre Dame plays Michigan State, he cheers for the school of the child he likes more at that particular moment.

Jeff McLane, right, joined the Eagles beat in April 2009 after two years of covering colleges, namely Penn State football. Before that he covered high school sports for The Inquirer. Before that he worked in the mailroom (not quite). Informed that his father is no longer covering the Lions, McLane's eldest, three-year-old son said, "You mean Simba, Scar and Mufasa, Daddy?" His two-year-old son -- excited about the move to the Eagles -- said, "Go, Deigo, Go!" or something like that. His wife of five-plus years, however, had a different take on the new job. "Another five years is in question," she said. Check out McLane on Twitter and Facebook for instant updates on the Eagles.
