Reid denies, then reverses and says he did say "crucified" quote
Jeff McLane, Inquirer Staff Writer
UPDATE:
After reading Peter King's article, Andy Reid said, through an Eagles spokesman, that he did say what he said only an hour earlier he said he didn't say about Kevin Kolb being "crucified."
Confused?
So am I.
FROM EARLIER:
Eagles Andy Reid said that he did not tell Sports Illustrated reporter Peter King that Kevin Kolb would be "crucified" if he made a mistake as the starting quarterback and that was one of the reasons why he decided to promote Michael Vick ahead of Kolb this week.
"I never said that," Reid said Friday. "Nope. I don't even know about the article."
Here's the quote taken from SI.com:
"A young quarterback needs time to mature as he grows in the game. I don't think Kolb has lost one thing. He's a franchise quarterback. He will win games, and championships, for the Eagles. But I think it's a different deal when you go out there and can't make a mistake or you're going to get crucified, which is the way this thing might have gone if he went back in there now.''
Reid said that he did talk to King, but that he did not see the article.
Nevertheless, did Reid feel that Kolb would get crucified "if went back in there now," presumably behind a shaky offensive line?
"That's not what I feel at all," Reid said. "Let's move onto Jacksonville, fellas. We've kind of worn this deal out here."
Reid said that guard Nick Cole was held out of practice because of inflammation in his knee and because he wanted to keep him off the indoor turf. The coach said that Cole is still the starting right guard even though Reggie Wells took his snaps at practice.
I got an idea for you beat writers... AR will be completely truthful about everything, divulge his masterplan in front of God and everybody and you guys can print it so that all the other teams can see the Eagles plan and the players can know exactly what is going on. With everything out in the open and all, everybody can rest easy. HAVE YOU LOST YOUR MINDS??? The Eagles use the same tools our Gov't and ALL big business uses to keep the ENEMY from having an advantage. Disinformation. Lies. Being secretive. If he is honest about the business he loses the edge. So if you are whining about not being fed the truth you are either more concerned about "Webpage hits" or you are not an Eagles fan. Either answer is wrong. Just saying... Cdiggy
cole don't suck, he's hurt. Cdiggy
Reid is losing it. CaptainCrunch
Cole is hurt, and he sucks. tornadoh- The thing I realized from watching the first two games is that Cole has been really bad at guard. I thought he was serviceable before the end of last season. I now eagerly anticipate Wells. Wells will obviously outperform Cole, and that will be that. Cole will be the backup at guard again. King Dunlap is still practice squad material. Mawae isn't really an option. McGlynn has shown some promise. He at least doesn't pick up the wrong rusher like Cole. I'd still like to go back in time and pick the center in the first round of the 2010 draft. We could have gotten our solid DE by trading just our second rounders.
- I think Reid meant Kolb would have been crucified by the fans (and maybe the media) if he didn't perform to the level at which Vick's played over the past two games.
Too many cameras and microphones, twittering tweeters, bloggers, and gossip mongering reporters. It's football not DATELINE AMERICA...
or maybe it is now. retzlaff

@Cdiggy 100% agree. Andy knows every front office is watching and he's not gonna spell out the organizations plans for the whole league to see and put in print. eaglegreen22
I'm sick of Reidtard. Klambake
Stoneman, its fact that Reid talks to and treats national medis differently, more politely than he does the local media. watsonmr
There's not a shot that Reid is renewed. Holmgren just praying that ManGenious either can somehow win 6 games this year (and then can be kept for 1 more year) or that Andy walks away / gets fired after the season. Either way, Fat Andy will be the head coach in Cleveland in 2012. Book it. Dean1
Can't wait till the post game A.R. question/answer session. Win or lose-its going to be hot in Florida, hope they have a extra large oxygen tank next to the interview table for Andy's huffing, puffing, sucking in air and clearing his throad. Wouldn't be a bit surprised if he gets awhole of a set of BOZO's tinted shades so his shifty eyes are hidden. jwatson
