Reid denies, then reverses and says he did say "crucified" quote

POSTED: Friday, September 24, 2010, 12:07 PM

UPDATE:

After reading Peter King's article, Andy Reid said, through an Eagles spokesman, that he did say what he said only an hour earlier he said he didn't say about Kevin Kolb being "crucified."

Confused?

So am I.

FROM EARLIER:

Eagles Andy Reid said that he did not tell Sports Illustrated reporter Peter King that Kevin Kolb would be "crucified" if he made a mistake as the starting quarterback and that was one of the reasons why he decided to promote Michael Vick ahead of Kolb this week.

"I never said that," Reid said Friday. "Nope. I don't even know about the article."

Here's the quote taken from SI.com:

"A young quarterback needs time to mature as he grows in the game. I don't think Kolb has lost one thing. He's a franchise quarterback. He will win games, and championships, for the Eagles. But I think it's a different deal when you go out there and can't make a mistake or you're going to get crucified, which is the way this thing might have gone if he went back in there now.''

Reid said that he did talk to King, but that he did not see the article.

Nevertheless, did Reid feel that Kolb would get crucified "if went back in there now," presumably behind a shaky offensive line?

"That's not what I feel at all," Reid said. "Let's move onto Jacksonville, fellas. We've kind of worn this deal out here."

Reid said that guard Nick Cole was held out of practice because of inflammation in his knee and because he wanted to keep him off the indoor turf. The coach said that Cole is still the starting right guard even though Reggie Wells took his snaps at practice.

They're practicing inside to be able to deal with crowd noise in Jacksonville, eh? How much noise can a bunch of empty seats make?

Don't you realize this is all a ploy and Cole will be back tomorrow? Then every "expert" will weigh in on if the Eagle's made the right move, then there will be trade rumors for Wells. It's Reid's masterplan!

"Philly_Mike"......you mean the Eric Bruntlett that played a big part in helping us win a World Series? The Eric Bruntlett who scored the winning runs in Games 3 and 5, to clinch the Series? Ummmm, brilliant analogy, dude!!
