Much ado about Kolb's comments
Bob Brookover
With Donovan McNabb off until the Eagles hold their next full-squad camp next month, Kevin Kolb is the team's top quarterback this week and next at these rookie camps that also include some selected veterans.
After the Eagles went through their paces Wednesday, Kolb, beginning his third season in Philadelphia, drew a crowd of reporters and offered some honest opinions about his status as the No. 2 quarterback on the roster.
Apparently it was a slow news day because some people thought it was earth-shattering news when Kolb confessed to being "a little bit antsy" about becoming the Eagles' full-time No. 1 quarterback.
"I want to develop as a player and I want to be a starter in this league," Kolb said. "I want to be a star in this game."
That's not news and it's also not any different than what he said two months ago when I talked to him at Tra Thomas' charity golf tournament in Deland, Fla. Kolb, a second-round pick in 2007, thinks he can be a successful NFL quarterback even though he has thrown four interceptions to no touchdowns in his limited playing time.
Kolb, by the way, has looked better this spring than at any time during his tenure with the Eagles. He had a sensational connection with rookie Jeremy Maclin on a deep pass during this morning's workout. But Kolb knows completions in these camps are nothing more than training. It's important, but he wants more.
Call me when Kolb stands in front of the cameras, microphones and notebooks and says, "You know, I'm really not sure I'm qualified to be an NFL starter." That would be a huge story.
For now, it's good news that Kolb thinks he's capable of doing the job that still belongs to McNabb.
- oh...mr. kolb will get his chance this year...no way dilapidated donny goes 2 seasons without being injured.

Kevin needs to learn that you have to be able to throw the ball more than 15 yards to be a starter in this league. My arm is probably stronger than his... phillyfan412
If he's a starter in this league he hasn't had a chance to prove it with # 5 in front of him. MJPD345
Kevin Kolb would be a lock for the Pro Bowl, if completions to the other team were the critera. Kevin "All I throw are pick-sixes" Kolb. IgglesFan79
oh my... domino1986...how did donovan cause us too many games over the years? tbone pickins
Wow.. lots of psychics visiting this site. I wonder if the same people that say Kolb stinks and always will also predicted the Eagles would go to the NFC Championship last year. I think not. Eagledelphian
They're circling the wagons around Donnie Boy ! Let's see , a backup throwing a pick in the end zone on his first drive , after the starter couldn't even get them that far in the first half . Now the $110 million dollar man , with the ball handed to him at the Cards 47 yd. line with 3 minutes left , couldn't win the big one ...AGAIN !!!! Ten years with this guy is enough ....time for a change .... he's had 2 more yrs. at the helm than Bush had! ....neither accomplished anything ! Talon

AR will have to go to Kolb at some point since the diva won't make it through the season without an injury. It is also hard to believe that they have turned over the entire lineup the last 3 years to create a team for the diva to leas for 1 or 2 years. dutchman

wolfout, respond with the proper answer to a simple straightforward question before you make a feeble attempt at humor. Neither appear to be your strong point. tpizza

JEREMIAHTROTTER, I've sort of been leaning in that direction myself. Reid brought in DM to run the O and I think when 1 goes so will the other. AR may have confidence in Kolb even though he hasn't shown anything on the field yet. That doesn't mean he can't be a good QB with game experience though. Will AR want to go through that learning curve with a new QB or hand over the reins to a new coach? I'm not sure but AR isn't getting any healthier or younger and the stress of being head coach plus his family issues must be staggering. He is aging before our eyes so the answer is anybody's guess. tpizza
