Mornhinweg: Maclin looks fine

Rookie wide receiver Jeremy Maclin said Wednesday that he'd be ready to play Sunday against the Denver Broncos and offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg confirmed it today.
"He's fine," Mornhinweg said. "He looks good, so we'll see how the week goes on."
Maclin missed the Eagles' game Sunday against San Francisco because of a plantar fasciitis injury in his left foot that he aggravated early in a game against the New York Giants. Mornhinweg indicated that if Maclin doesn't have any setbacks, he'll return to the starting lineup against the Broncos.
"I would think so," Mornhinweg said. "Our training staff is like magicians. That was a serious injury and he's looking pretty good right now."
In other news, special teams coordinator Ted Daisher said it's still not clear if Quintin Demps or Macho Harris will return kicks Sunday. Demps is nursing an ankle injury.
Defensive coordinator Sean McDermott, meanwhile, said that rookie Moises Fokou would start ahead of Chris Gocong for the second straight week. Fokou was announced as the starter against San Francisco, but he didn't actually start or play a lot because the Eagles ran a nickel defense the majority of the time, which includes just two linebackers. McDermott said that nickel scheme was game specific to the 49ers and designed to slow down San Francisco tight ends Vernon Davis and Delanie Walker.
McDermott, of course, has used a variety of linebacker combinations this season, but this is the first time that Gocong has not been in the mix.
"We have so many movable parts that I'm not just going to sit back and say I wish would have or I didn't want to move a guy because I'm comfortable," McDermott said. "It's about having our best 11 on the field and giving our team a chance to win a football game. Whatever we feel as a staff that requires that's what we'll do. I think the players, to their credit, have embraced that. We're getting direct contributions from the Tracy Whites, the Dimitri Pattersons and the Jason Babins and there are those skill sets that those guys have that can add value to this defense and we're trying to exhaust that."
Merry Christmas from the two-man staff here at BEV, your best source for Eagles information.
why risk a more serious injury? rather have him ready to roll in the playoffs... reggie brown has been playing fairly well lately... just sayin sore richard
Reggie Brown is garbage flyigglesfly
Reggie Brown is not garbage, he's a decent #4 wr. I agree with sore richard -- let maclin rest his foot another week. Richard S
Agree, Sore Richard. If a couple of more weeks rest will make a difference to his recovery, save Maclin for the playoffs. I'd consider resting Celek as well. hobbit
Macklin, Avant and DeJean will all be needed if Dawk is crashing into Mac. So the quick on that D could be enough to win on Sun. Curtis and Brown will just have to fill in to give the guys a breath. But, no one now can depend on them. KGKoons- Rest???? The Eagles will win the #2 seed if we win the last 2 and Minn loses one of the last 2. If we get the #2 seed, then EVERYBODY can rest for 2 weeks. That's a better plan to get to the Superbowl!
I understand the logic of resting some dinged up players, but I don't want to see any of the momentum dissappear... If Maclin can take the pain of the injury, put him out there and keep subbing in players throughout the game so everybody stays sharp. And Brown is not garbage, but he's no Maclin. Birds need to play for that #2 seed! Bleue
It's impossible for me to judge whether he should play or not. We could lose even if he plays, and we could win even if he doesn't. he Hcould get re-injured, or could come out close to 100%. I do know that there seems to be a huge dropoff from Maclin to Reggie Brown, and probably just as big a dropoff to Curtis, unless he returns to the form of a couple years ago. While we have some talent finally around McNabb, it's a little concerning that Celek is playing through injuries and our second tight end (Smith) isn't half as good. D-Jax and Westbrook (of course) have suffered concussions, etc. A healthy O with just a competent D may be enough to get to the SB, whether we do it as the 2 (that would be awesome),3 or 6 seed. MG44

You are right on the money, mish mikeyhigs
rest him, Broncos are bad easy
Have any of you guys ever had a severe case of plantar faceitis, let alone a partial tare of one? I can speak from experience and tell you the condition needs complete rest to heal properly. One or two weeks won't cut it. Hope the Eagles' medical staff shows good judgment and keeps Maclin out of the game. It would be in the Eagles best interest. tbird- tbird is right. There's a good chance that he won't play despite what Reid says. Or if he does he will not be out there much. Maclin is outstanding and here's hoping this will not be a chronic problem. Bob1
I've had a plantar fasciitis problem. It doesn't go away in a few weeks. It's more like a few months. Sitting Maclin until the playoffs won't help it. You can function just fine with PF after most of the pain goes away. Maclin will just have to suck it up. soulman386

Mish is on the money. We need to make sure we get the best seeding position possible. My feeling is that guys who are injured and just startng to get back are probably going to pull up lame during the playoffs. If the the game is won then sure rest some players but until then keep the team momentum together. Doubtful
As much as I want that bye week, I personally think we should rest JMac. I remember when we traded up to draft him how many people were saying we should've taken Pettigrew. Or traded him away for Boldin (and payed 10 times more salary for less yards per catch). JMac's already shown us he's (more than) a legit starter in this league, we can't afford to lose such a gem in his 1st year. And I also happen to think we can win this week without him GO EAGLES!! goeagles87
tbird, the most serious injury most of these posters have suffered is a hangover. Ninety percent of them have never played sports. phillyinsd
I think you play anyone who is willing and able. The number two seed is still a strong possibility, we have to do our part to get it and that means playing hurt!! Iowaeagle
tbird I had it but it did not hinder my running. Geting up in the morning was a @#@@!@ but I ran 4-5 miles with NO pain. Give him a shot and let him go.He shouldn't have missed the last game. mainstreet
tbird & soulman - his injury is nothing like yours because HIS happened to a 21 y/o world class elite athelete. YOURS happened to you. Ughhh. You probably think we should cut Shawn Andrews some slack too. dragoon6
...give Maclin another week at least...or bring him back next week against the Cowgirls...if Dallas loses Sunday then rest him until the playoffs...wideouts get hurt a lot...so you don't know when you'll need a backup. garyshaffer
i have no idea what a 'planta faciitis' problem is let along know how to spell it. we will find out if maclin can play with it sunday but to think there is no drop off from maclin to reggie brown is nuts. maclin catches it every time, brown sometimes. JACK V
No rest for anyone yet. Especially if they are throwing Westbrook out there. They need to win, Cowf*gs need to lose and we need the Skins to suck it up as well. THEN rest a few starters or, at least, see if they can get a lead in the first half against Dallas then sit them. GO BIRDS! dr.elektrika
