Mora withdraws name from Eagles/Broncos jobs
Jeff McLane, Inquirer Staff Writer
UPDATE:
If Jim Mora wants to get back into coaching, he's likely not doing it until after next season.
Mora withdrew his name from the Eagles and Broncos defensive coordinator job search, according to Jay Glazer of FOXSports.com, who spoke to the former Falcons and Seahawks coach.
Mora confirmed the report with the following text message: "While I appreciate the opportunities presented by Denver and Philadelphia, at this time it’s just not the right fit."
Mora was considered a leading candidate for the Eagles opening. Despite reports that the job was Mora’s if he wanted it, the Eagles never offered because negotiations were never in the “advanced stages,” a source close to the situation said.
Mora spent the last year out of the NFL as an analyst for NFL Network. The 49-year-old has a relatively young family and resides in Seattle.
Former Eagles defensive coordinator Sean McDermott, meanwhile, was officially named the Panthers' new defensive coordinator.
FROM EARLIER:
It's either the Broncos or the Eagles for Jim Mora.
The former Falcons and Seahawks head coach wants to get back into coaching and has narrowed his choices down to two, a source close to the situation said.
Mora was in Denver yesterday to meet with new head coach John Fox about their defensive coordinator opening, but headed back to his home in Seattle without signing a contract. He is expected to interview with the Eagles but can't until coach Andy Reid returns from a vacation in Antigua later this week.
Reid and Mora have spoken informally about the Eagles' defensive coordinator vacancy, according to the source. But Mora wants to meet with the Eagles before making a decision.
And, of course, Reid has to decide if he wants to Mora to replace the recently-fired Sean McDermott. Eagles senior assistant Dick Jauron is also a candidate. He is currently in Cleveland interviewing for their defensive coordinator job.
Former Cardinals defensive coordinator Billy Davis has also been mentioned as a candidate, but an interview with the Eagles has not yet been scheduled.

Mora wants to be a head coach..........he doesn't want to be a coordinator anymore !! He can afford to wait he still getting paid from his last job. thin slice of life
Star Fox??? 1phillyallday1
Virgil Fox... factcheck- Good, his defenses always were pedestrian. Now with the experience we have with the D-line coach we can get one of the aggressive assistants from the Jets or Packers. Jim Mora was not who I wanted in the first place!

Good. I didn't want Mora anyway. The coordinator from Green Bay or Dave Wannsted (sp) would be much better fits in my opinion. Carcharios
Good. We didn't want you here anyway. We can get someone more accomplished then the progeny of "Playoffs??" Hugh_S
Nellie Fox watsonmr- WTF is going on? shawnmac

Maybe it was Fox Mulder eagle_z
So if he chooses Denver, is he 'crazy like a Fox'? Or if he signs with the Birds, he can go hang and drink with Vick again at the 'Fox and the Hound'... 25years/100seasonsandcounting
Can we get Mora Senior instead of the overrated junior. ej610
Why doesn't Reid just name Brian Dawkins the new defensive coordinator? Dawk is surely retiring now that his contract with Denver is up (though I haven't heard any official announcement). It might not be a good football move, but it would be wildly popular with Eagles fans. Realistically speaking though, I think Dawk should probably be hired to be Defensive Backs coach, or something like that. SteveS11- Uh.... no. I don't see Dawk making a good coach. The ability to instruct and the ability to perform are two separate talents, and few possess them in tandem. I also don't think Dawkins' style of play is the recipe for a successful secondary. He was all about bringing the pain. His success as a D-back wasn't predicated on preventing receptions so much as making pass-catchers regret them and think twice the next time. So with the crackdown on unnecessary roughness these days, Dawkins' highlight reel is practically a course in "what not to do."

I want Mora here. We need a big name, stubborn D coordinator who will not have to bow down to the fat man. Mora knows football and knows defense and is motivated. Also I liked his interview with Vick on NFL Network, with Vick on offense and Mora leading the defense it will create a nice team dynamic. brmorgen81- yes, hopefully we'll have mad success like Atlanta did back in the day....or did not. Mora's defenses have been average to below average in all 3 of his stops (SF, Atlanta, Seattle). Why do you want him here? He's a 3-time loser who wouldn't be anywhere near the NFL if his daddy wasn't Jim Mora, the old Stars and Colts coach.

No it's michael J Fox; the reason McDermott didn't sign is because he was dating his sister Valerie and couldn't stomach working for the president of the young republicans club. Twocents
