Milliner, Lotulelei and Manuel will visit Eagles next week

POSTED: Thursday, April 4, 2013, 12:03 PM

The Eagles continued to schedule visits with most of the top-rated draft prospects and are slated to bring cornerback Dee Milliner, defensive tackle Star Lotulelei and quarterback E.J. Manuel in for a last look-see next week, according to NFL sources.

Quarterback Geno Smith and defensive end Ziggy Ansah were at the NovaCare Complex on Wednesday. Outside linebacker Dion Jordan and tackle Eric Fisher were scheduled to meet with the Eagles on Thursday. And defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd was set to visit the team on Friday, per sources.

Tackle Luke Joeckel is being brought in next week, as well. The Texas A&M product is arguably the No. 1 tackle in the draft. Fisher is a close second and could be ranked ahead of Joeckel on some draft boards. Tackle Lane Johnson of Oklahoma is also in the mix, although the Eagles have yet to schedule a meeting with him, according to a league source.

The offensive line could be the area the Eagles address first with the No. 4 overall pick. Joeckel, Fisher or Johnson could potentially start at right tackle, which would allow Todd Herremans to move back to guard. With Herremans and left tackle Jason Peters over 30, the Eagles could be looking to the future as well.

If the Eagles don't select an offensive lineman, they could take the best defensive player on their board. Floyd and Jordan are considered the two most likely defensive players to go first in the draft.

The Eagles may also be looking for a quarterback of the future. Smith could be available at No. 4. If Kelly passes on the West Virginia quarterback, Manuel could be gotten in the second round when the Eagles pick third.

If you think the Eagles are going to take an OLB with the first pick you are nuts. One of the OTs, Floyd could be the reincarnation of Jerome Brown, Millner has a complete skill set and could be the answer to every team's #1 receiver for years to come. Let's just hope someone trades ahead of #4 to take Geno the team needs way too much else to take a flier on a project QB.

EJ Manuel seems like a good pick, if they can get him in the 3rd (probably can't). I'd go for Joeckel or Fisher at #4, a defensive back at #35. Find the next Todd Herremans in round 4, and the next Trent Cole, in more of a linebacker's body, in round 5. In round 7, the next Victor Cruz.

The Eagles are $23,000,000 under the cap. Why aren't they using that $$$ to get some good young players (plenty were, and some still are, available)???

If Coach Kelly REALLY wants the ball out in under 2 seconds then you don't need the BEST linemen, just good ones should do. That being the case go for the best pass rushers, create turnovers, get the ball back to the offence. A fearsome D-line and backers will win the "S" bowl.

Draft Matt Scott QB from Arizona in 4th round....Scott already knows the same type offense that Kelly runs....Scott is already better than Vick, so cut Vick and draft Scott to complete with Foles and Dixon for starting QB job.

Don't draft Geno smith I can only pray their interest is a smoke screen. Do the intelligent thing and take Eric fisher and build a superb O-line. Once the Oline and defense is secure then get the QB we are in a mini rebuilding stage lets just accept that and build our house one brick at a time.
