Michael Vick carried football around Eagles facility

POSTED: Friday, October 12, 2012, 1:56 PM

In an effort to work on his ball security, Michael Vick carried a football around the Eagles facility throughout the week while teammates tried stripping it from him. He took it to breakfast, lunch, meetings throughout the day.

"Everyone thought it was funny, but I didn't," Vick said. "That's how much I care about this team. That's how much I care about our success."

Vick didn't say whether teammates stripped the ball from him, but said they tried and he eventually stopped because the "stakes" were getting high.

"There was a bounty on the ball," Vick said, drawing laughter.

Vick watched football games throughout the week and paid attention to how others carried the ball. He also spoke to his running backs about it. His conclusion? "Everyone's got it high and tight."

Vick's fumbling habits have been a discussion locally and nationally this wek. Vick said he understands the reason for the conversation.

"It's the nature of this business," Vick said. "The things I need to do is correct it."

He will not make any changes to his equipment on Sunday. He said the fumbles were not the result of what he wore. He also doesn't think all the conversation will cloud his head.

"I don't think it'll be a concern when the game starts," Vick said. "You don't want to worry about things that can happen. You want to make it happen."

Wow. He's allowing himself to be treated like a college freshman. Maybe he really is humble now.

say what you want. Mike's about wanting to win. Not about his legacy, or should he be in Hall of Fame. He wants to win every game

I registered on this site just to compliment you on your post. That's is some funny stuff right there. I wonder if he would be willing to get a tattoo on the back of his hands that says "running the ball is not a bad thing"?

MRD - Vick was going to name his new dog "Mets" but that was considered too inhumane.

They should have him carry around a baby or puppy. Oh wait, nevermind.

It doesn't take a football genius to realize you can't carry the football away from your body like Vick does and expect not to have turnovers. C'mon Vick, this is high school stuff.

fanup - Vick got by on his talent and thought many of the rules didn't apply to him UNTIL he went to prison. Now he is putting in all of the effort. While the scoring isn't spectacular, Vick has never done as well against the Blitz as a QB, in his whole life, as he has done in the last two weeks. Keep in mind, this is with an offensive line that has three out of 5 guys blocking NOBODY while the other team is sending 6! In other words, not only is this the worst O-line that Vick has ever dealt with, it might be one of the worst in the history of the NFL! In other words, Vick is making the effort and improving... in spite of the weaknesses of the O-line around him.

Love dude's attitude. I know he's required to be on the up-and-up, but still, good stuff.

If you run the football more that helps the Oline and keeps the ball out of he hands of the QB.

Does not matter what he does, he has slowed down, and he and ball are more of a target. He thinks he can do what he did 10 years ago.

Vick must be going backwards in his development.

if i were andy reid i would instruct every player and coach to randomly take swipes at the ball vick is carrying at any time. (except when hes in the game of course.)

best case scenario for Eagles would be to lose badly to Lions and Andy Reid realizes bringing in Vick to QB was a horrible idea, and turns to Nick Foles for the rest of the season. Unlike Vick, Foles is a real QB

YOU PLAY THE GAME TO WIN! Vick, Eagles are in first place in Division but QBs you love Rodgers, Manning, Brees, Romo so far can only dream about being in first place somewhere. If hate for Vick is not racist, show some hate for the QBs with worse records and losing performances. You don't call for NICK because he's a better QB, you want Nick because he is lacking melanin just like you. Which is worse, an early fumble and a miraculous comeback or five INTs and no comeback at all?
