Michael Vick confirms he has a dog

POSTED: Thursday, October 11, 2012, 4:29 PM

A day after declining to answer whether he owned a dog, Eagles quarterback Michael Vick released a statement Thursday confirming that his family had recently obtained one.

“I understand the strong emotions by some people about our family’s decision to care for a pet,” Vick said in a statement released by his publicist. “As a father, it is important to make sure my children develop a healthy relationship with animals.

“I want to ensure that my children establish a loving bond and treat all of God’s creatures with kindness and respect. Our pet is well cared for and loved as a member of our family. This is an opportunity to break the cycle. To that end, I will continue to honor my commitment to animal welfare and be an instrument of positive change.”
Last week, Vick tweeted a photograph of him and his daughter seated together at a table presumably at home. To their right was an open box of Milk-Bone dog biscuits. The tweet was later deleted and was replaced by a similar photo, sans the Milk-Bone box.

Several days later, the Eagles quarterback was asked to explain the photos.

“I’m here to strictly talk about football,” Vick said Wednesday at the NovaCare Complex. “What goes on in my personal life is not to be talked about. What’s most important right now is the Philadelphia Eagles and getting the win Sunday.”

Vick could not own a dog during a three-year probationary period following his release from prison. He served 19 months for owning and operating a dogfighting ring and an additional two months of house arrest following his release in May.

He had spoken openly about wanting to own a dog and in July told CNN’s Piers Morgan that he did not want to deprive his daughters from having the pet because of his crimes. Asked what kind of dog he would get, Vick said that he would allow his children to choose, but “it certainly won’t be a pit bull.”

Comparing this to Sandusky is way off and tasteless. He paid his price and is much older now. That dog will be fine. Saying he can't own a dog is like saying a sex offender can never marry.People change and he paid his debt to society. Now, aim with Johnny here..... "about those turnovers."

This proves what an idiot Vick is. He's playing lousy, him and Reid are in an important year of their contracts, and he decides to get a dog to bring back all the attention on himself. Idiot. He also tried to hide it which proves he's a liar and can't be trusted.

Everyone leave this man's personal life alone!!! He is now allowed to own a dog now. He has done his time and also has contributed above and beyond to the animal rights and rescue programs. You can see and hear that he is a good person and has made a positive change in his moral standards toward animals and over all.
Now lets not turn this into a circus (media & fans) and lets get him to stop turning the ball over!!! People change and earn a 2nd chance. He was punished heavily and did his time. Let the man have some personal life! The guy tweets a picture of him and his daughter both putting in work (homework & film study) and no one take notice of his relationship with his daughter or his good example he is setting as a person and father in the picture. People only look and take something negative out of it! I am not the biggest Vick fan as a QB, but as a person I see the difference in him. I feel like it's a shame that he can't be like many other athlete's that use social media in which us as fans like to read and see.
If Ben Roethlisberger tweets a picture of him and his daughter are we all going to put it in the media since he had been accused forcing a girl into sexual acts? Ben has not ever been punished for his crimes. I know I know he was not convicted or even had charges pressed against him. While it's amazing what money buys you; because if he was not an athlete with his money and status no doubt he would have been arrested and convicted.

Win on Sunday and no one cares what you do at home. Keep fumbling and losing games you should win and the dog will be the least of your worries...

Dude took an innocent dog in his bare hands and picked it up over his head and bashed it into the ground repeatedly until it died. He did that himself. He took part in electrocuting and beating other dogs to death. I wold be uncomfrtable with him around kids let alone a dog. That being said he's legally allowed to own one so let's just move on. Eleven more games and this nightmare is over anyway.
