Michael Vick confirms he has a dog

POSTED: Thursday, October 11, 2012, 4:29 PM

A day after declining to answer whether he owned a dog, Eagles quarterback Michael Vick released a statement Thursday confirming that his family had recently obtained one.

“I understand the strong emotions by some people about our family’s decision to care for a pet,” Vick said in a statement released by his publicist. “As a father, it is important to make sure my children develop a healthy relationship with animals.

“I want to ensure that my children establish a loving bond and treat all of God’s creatures with kindness and respect. Our pet is well cared for and loved as a member of our family. This is an opportunity to break the cycle. To that end, I will continue to honor my commitment to animal welfare and be an instrument of positive change.”
Last week, Vick tweeted a photograph of him and his daughter seated together at a table presumably at home. To their right was an open box of Milk-Bone dog biscuits. The tweet was later deleted and was replaced by a similar photo, sans the Milk-Bone box.

Several days later, the Eagles quarterback was asked to explain the photos.

“I’m here to strictly talk about football,” Vick said Wednesday at the NovaCare Complex. “What goes on in my personal life is not to be talked about. What’s most important right now is the Philadelphia Eagles and getting the win Sunday.”

Vick could not own a dog during a three-year probationary period following his release from prison. He served 19 months for owning and operating a dogfighting ring and an additional two months of house arrest following his release in May.

He had spoken openly about wanting to own a dog and in July told CNN’s Piers Morgan that he did not want to deprive his daughters from having the pet because of his crimes. Asked what kind of dog he would get, Vick said that he would allow his children to choose, but “it certainly won’t be a pit bull.”

Thank God we all know that the Vick Family has a dog. Now, about those turnovers...

There was a box of MILKBONE on the table on that photo. Milkbone? Really? That is the Kraft Macaroni and Cheese of dog treats - and I'm talkin about that fifty cent box not that deluxe version with the can of sauce. Vick could afford to give that loved pouch a bit more upscale. Miklbone? Really? I feels sorry for that poor dog.

You're right Darnel, Milk Bone is a ghetto treat. Michael should be ashamed to give a dog that junk. Heck, just reach on any supermarket shelf to eye level and get some Dingo Bones or a bag of Pupperoni instead. But Michael can afford the really good treats that you only find in doggie boutiques. A box of Milk Bone worries me too. Good spot by you.

Sorry dude. We didn't realize you care more about football and turnovers instead of animals being abused and killed by your QB. We'll stop talking about Sandusky and his abuse of children and instead talk about the lack of sacks. Happy now?

ej: Either you are vegan, or you're a hypocrite. If you don't see the connection, you're uneducated on the subject, nieve, or just living in denial.

Whether or not Vick hangs or drowns this dog too with his own hands, it's a constant reminder of his sadistic crimes.

Really? You're thinking about damn Football when the subject is clearly about how your so called "QB" should NOT NOT NOT have an kind of animal. Regardless of whether or not his kids have to suffer as well.

And meat eaters will learn that the meat they eat comes from highly abused and chemically enhanced animals, and that they are as guilty of animal cruelty as MV! And Michael, thanks for helping organizations like animal samaritans, PETA, and others that help fight animal cruelty.

You attitude is worse than Vick's wrong doings in past. You really want to bring innocent kids into a discussion. You sir/madam are a heartless human. You should be ashamed of yourself

I think the Vick kids have a right to have a dog. I just hope it isn't named Checkers.
