McNabb unhappy?; Herremans surgery

POSTED: Friday, August 28, 2009, 12:05 AM
Best friends

Is Donovan McNabb already at odds with the Wildcat and Michael Vick's role on the team? Before you start accusing me of being a rabble-rouser, take this response from the Eagles quarterback when he was asked if he thought the WildVick disrupted the rhythm and whether the offense needed to get back to basics during the first half of tonight's game with the Jaguars:

"Absolutely, Absolutely,” McNabb said. “I did. In that situation, it’s needed. I know what we were trying to do [with Vick] and we were able to get that done. And I thought it was time for us to kind of get our offense going. After the first play when I tried to go deep to DeSean [Jackson] and threw it out of bounds a little, we started to get positive plays. We got the drive going and I think that’s very important in a game, whether it’s in the regular season or the preseason, to get that rhythm going. If you’re going to show different looks make sure it’s the right time. That’s the what the preseason’s for to make sure you know when that time is, and we’ll get that time together. I thought it was important at that time to get out and run our offense.”

McNabb was then asked if he motioned to offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg and the Eagles' coaches to stop running the plays with Vick (all told, Vick was inserted six times). Donovan, naturally, dodged the question with a joke.

"Yeah, I sat all of them down and I told them, ‘That’s it,’” McNabb said.

Reid was asked if he saw McNabb gesture. "That had nothing to do with Michael," Reid said. "You can ask McNabb. He was fine with it."

Reid didn't think the Vick plays were much of a problem.

“If you're going to use that a little bit, then you have to work it in there," Reid said. "That's what we're going to do as we go down the road here. I expect the guys to make that part of the rhythm and make it work. I don’t see that as what happened there.”

Reid, meanwhile, announced tonight that Todd Herremans would have surgery on his left foot. The guard, who had a stress reaction, now has a stress fracture. Reid said he would miss a few weeks of the season. Nick Cole is the likely replacement at left guard.

Also, safety Macho Harris had an ankle sprain and guard Chris Patrick had a knee strain.

King of Philly, that is not necessarily true. It said that he will be reinstated at the latest for week 6. So, if he were to get the full punishment by the commissioner he will miss 4 games max since we have a bye. Also, word around the league is that the commish will not invoke the full penalty on Vick. I am hearing that it will probably be 2-3 games, so no worries, we will be seeing Vick in the regular season very soon.

Desperation is a stinky cologne, and trying to start a quarterback controversy is even more desperate. Maybe it's time you got a job other than writing fabrications and here say.

I know that Donovan isn't fooling ANYONE lined up as a WR. He SHOULD get off the field and let a REAL wr on who can either block or catch the ball. If he's complaining about having to leave the field when Vic is the QB, then tough; HE wanted to give Vick a shot...stop crying. I don't think Donovan thought the fans would embrace him the way they have. Sort of a "Donovan passed for his thousands and Vick passed for his 10 thousands" Biblical illustration.

As a fan that went to the game, let me tell you the crowd was in full 100 percent support of Vick, from the absolute cheering of his arrival all 6 times to the "we want Vick" chants that happened every time Mcnabb made a mistake, the cameras didnt show u Vick having a huge entourage of media surrounding him like a rock star while Mcnabb walked off the field alone, hmmmmm. For Don to flat out tell you he wasnt happy with his final warmup scenario, theres no fabrication needed, controversy.

A win is a win is a win. McPaid, Vick and the dee did the dam thang and wona game in preseason. Was it pretty? Heck no! That was the ugliest win ever. And lonewolf10, are you crazy or something? Kolb looked so stupid out there at first, I thought he was going to break down and cry when he picked up that safety. Gimme a break! This team is going to be fine. Weaver will be playing as will B-West and this offense will thrive. If the dee can gel a little quicker than they did last night, this season will be well worth the Vick hype and all of the summer signings. GO EAGLES!!!!!!

McNabb is still the best quarterback for this team. Some of you folks are just too stupid for words. Here in Baltimore we didn't see all the game but what we did see was an offense that look disjointed because Fat Andy wanted Vick to get his touches early. I would have preferred that he work on the number one offense some more. But we have what two more games for that. We'll be fine if the offensive line heals and BW starts taking handoffs.

For the 2nd week in a row, I didn't find it very difficult to root AGAINST the Eagles...As a true life-long fan, I was, I am, and I always will be disgusted with managemment from top to bottom for bringing in this murderer.Even though he got cheers last night, it is a long season.....and to you Mcnabb.......sometimes you get what you wish for..What an idiot to lobby for this guy..The very first bad game and McNabb will be re-living the Baltimore game of last year..The day that this piece of garbage CONvick is off the team, is the day the Eagle flag flies outside my door again.

lonewolf...mcnabb looked old? were we watching the same game? u must have went in the other room to get ya crackpipe when mcnabbed spinned away from a rusher and completed a dart to jason avant for a first down. or when he scrambled for first down and shook mathis out his cleats and jockstrap. I guess u also missed when mcnabb stood in the pocket and got hit as he completed a pass to avant again on a post route..leave that crack alone lonewolf it kills!!

**BADMOTHERUPPER** There is no doubt that Donovan is the QB for the team..But he's not a WR and he really DOESN'T HAVE to be on the field very time that M. Vick is on the field. If the Eagles decide to insert a package of plays specifically for Vick AT QB and he's effective in doing so; and it HELPS THE TEAM WIN; I as a fan, want to see it. Surely, Donovan didn't want to "help Mike out" by suggesting that the Eagles bring him in to sit behind him and hold a clipboard and maybe get out there every now and then and run the wildcat with Donovan looking over his shoulder from the WR position.

It's nice #5 i a gentleman. The question is, is he still a quarterback ? There may be some tread left on his tires, but a blowout is still a great possibility. Mc Nabb is slow and sluggish. Time to change wheels...No I don't mean Vick !

btw...My statements about Donovan's "concerns" about Vick IN NO WAY suggest that I'm for benching him totally in favor of Vick OR Kevin Kolb. Those claiming that Donovan looked slow and suggish weren't watching that game last night. His escapablity was impressive and he scrambled nicely for a 1st down. He really had the bad pass, but I attribute the overall out of sync feel of the offense to ARs INSISTANCE on Pass-Pass-Pass. I stopped following after they reached 80% passes. Those big roadgrader OL that he brought in can't get in a grove soft peddling backwards the entire game. Donovan came back and drove them to two TDs...that's a good nights work for him and a good platform to prepare for the season ahead...just no more pretending to be a WR. It means absolutely nothing other than the fact that it's stated by the announcers and sounds cool.

Every year, same Eagle issues, no resolve. No pass rush, inability to score in the redzone, Mcnabb's lackluster completion percentagle, dumb penalties, and getting burned on all out blitzes. Does Reid ever learn from mistakes?

You're a rabble-rouser. I had the impression during the game McNabb had a difficult time getting into a rhythm because the Eagles kept bringing in Vick and taking him out. McNabb confirmed this after the game.

I don't think McNabb looked sluggish. He is not going to go out there and give 110% until he tosses in the preseason. I thought he played pretty good. He had a nice scramble for the first and threw some nice passes. I thought the whole team played well. This Jeff dude writing this stuff about McNabb, reminds me of the TO days.

I believe #5 had a decent game last night, he made a bunch of good throws, he scrambled out of pressure for a first down, he made a good pass to Basket in the end zone in tight coverage (Basket had 2 hands on it he needs to make the catch) and his overall numbers were good. I am not worried about #5, our downfall will be injuries!

Line play will make or break the Eagles this year. What the idea of splitting out DM at receiver is for I have no idea. Does anyone see him being used that way? Why do it other than for a lateral? It's like taking a player off the field. Stupid.

This article hangs on a very very thin thread. I thought that the second snap of the game was way too early to insert Vick. Especially since McNabb overthrew that first throw. They should have at least let him complete a couple of passes before bringin in Vick. I also think there is no controversy over here. Anybody with even pretensions of being an athlete would have liked to have at least a second shot after missing the first. I guess Michael Vick has consumed all the second chances this team had!

Tpizza, I agree. That Mcpaid ploy is fooling no one. He's not a WR so Vick is not going to throw to him and he's too scared to run anymore so they're not going to do any hand-offs to him. I think Andy Bleed just wanted to stick him somewhere without taking him off the field altogether, which still makes no sense. I hope they come up with better plays for both of them after week 5.

I am back from a vacation to Rome, Italy and this is the first article I read. Ready to Read all the articles I have missed. Idiot… Idiot…idiot. Did you hear what he said in the very beginning? If HE didn't throw the ball a little bit out of bounds on Jackson going deep then the offense would be explosive(my word). Do you SEE what they are trying to do? Vick has been out of the game for a while BUT!!! This is all new for the coaching staff and they are trying a whole new offense, one we have never seen in AR 11 years. AND Mcnabb knows this and you could hear it in his comments about how he got them out of rhythm by missing Jackson. If they get this new offense clicking…wow Super Bowl here we come and we will probably lose it
