A desert opening for McNabb?

POSTED: Friday, January 29, 2010, 1:14 PM

With Arizona quarterback Kurt Warner expected to announce his retirement this afternoon, Donovan McNabb fielded questions about the man who twice beat the Eagles in an NFC championship game.

"Kurt and I have been friends pretty much since the year 2001 when we played in the NFC championship against each other," McNabb said. "We've communicated back and forth and I actually talked to him after his last game against New Orleans. I told him it has been a storybook career for him."

Of course, Warner's decision to retire enhances the McNabb offseason story.

Could the Eagles' longtime quarterback end up being traded to Arizona, the place where he keeps an offseason home.

"Will you stop it," McNabb said when the subject was raised after the NFC's Pro Bowl practice this morning in Fort Lauderdale.

These things, of course, will not stop any time soon regardless of what Eagles coach Andy Reid said the day after the season.

"Everything is going to come up that involves me," McNabb said. "It seems like every offseason involves Brett Favre and Donovan McNabb, so we're going to hear about that the whole offseason. So get ready: Is Brett retiring? What's he going to do? And in Philly Donovan McNabb ... so get ready for that. But I don't get involved in all that."

McNabb wouldn't even acknowledge that if he is traded that he'd like to go to a team with a chance to win the Super Bowl. Minnesota and Arizona would both seem to have a chance to do so with McNabb.

"We can win in Philly," McNabb said. "There's a place I want to be. It's the NovaCare Center. That's in Philadelphia. One NovaCare Way, where the Eagles practice and then they eat cafeteria food and they watch film and we eat and we have fun."

McNabb also talked about the Eagles' decision to name Howie Roseman the general manager and the changes in the scouting department since the departure of former GM Tom Heckert.

"One thing people fail to realize is that Andy makes the decision over there," McNabb said. "With Howie stepping in, it's going to be the same pace and the same beat. With Andy and Joe and Howie now and everyone else in the scouting department, it's still going to flow as well as it did."

Get away McNabb; Leave town ASAP; these Philly Clown Fans and local media don't deserve YOU. You have done so much for this team and city; like making them football relevant for 10 straight years...get out; let these punks rip the next guy; it seems to be the MO around here...."Fans" that consitently RIP their stars and try to cover it up by saying "we are the most educated and loyal fans"; really??? I would hate to see the ugly side of Philly fans....The local media should also go; oh, they can't; cause they actually suck!! Outside of Brian Balldinger and Stephen A. Smith; what other local media stiffs do anything on the national level....oh yeah; Sal Pal...the rest of JayVee at best; Ike Reese; HUH?? Hating arse special teams clown!!!

Why worry about sending McNabb to an another NFC team? He is an inaccurate passer now and will always be. He cannot win the big game with the Eagles and will not do it against the Eagles. So why worry? The TD/INT ratio is a greatly over rated stat. Sure it is low but that is because he never takes that chance, never trusts his receivers. That is why he cannot win the big game. Besides he has hands of stone and fumbles more than almost any other QB in history (look it up)so if you count the TOTAL turnovers, interceptions and fumbles, his stats do NOT look so good.

D.MAC can win us a super bowl, but he can't do it alone. Our offense will get better next season,it's our D that worries me and if anyone remembers Eagles have drafted a dozen D.lineman this decade(mcdougle, cory simon, etc.)they need to hit paydirt this year and find a real monster for tht line. p.s. those pick's were when JJ was still the DC.

I'm not the biggest fan of McNabb, but the FACT is, if he goes we are still not gonna go. You could but Joe Montana, in his prime, behind that line, and with that offensive coaching staff, and he would basically be McNabb(with a few less pass at the ground). Point is every football league, from pee-wee to high school, college, arena, etc., you need a running game. It doesn't have to be a power running game, but something. If you pass 85% of the time, a high school defense coordinator knows to press the receiver's and play a man/zone with the linebackers, hense making the quarterback look like McNabb. Plus the Eagles secondary defense was horrible!!!!

Vic is not a true pocket QB and we have talent at the WR position, keep McNabb and get something for VIC!!!! a few Draft Pcs would be nice. I do not want to see Corn Kob our starting QB.

2004 SB all our players performed well, even crazy TO. The person who didn’t was McNabb. He was like a "deer in the headlights". The offence and defense carried the whole game which prevented the lose from being totally embarrassing against the Patriots. But Don's lack of completing passes and not putting points on the board against a powerful offence cost us that game. Donovan is one of the weakest links on this team. I can't see him performing better then Favre with the Vikings. Those long balls to Percy Harvin, the TE, etc Don couldn’t consistently make. The Viks have a good running game but a good team can stop the run. Any team will force a weak QB to pass the ball and that's not Donny's best work.

Yawn. "Of course, Warner's decision to retire enhances the McNabb offseason story." Only if you hacks are bound and determined to make it a story. "These things, of course, will not stop any time soon regardless of what Eagles coach Andy Reid said the day after the season." Then quit asking Reid, Banner and McNabb about it. You've already admitted that you're going to write about it and try to make a story out of it regardless of what these guys say. So what's the point of asking them questions about it? You're going to disregard their answers anyway. "McNabb wouldn't even acknowledge that if he is traded that he'd like to go to a team with a chance to win the Super Bowl." Whoever asked that question needs to go find a new line of work. Someone actually was stupid enough to ask McNabb to speculate on where he would like to go IF he is traded? Moron.

Eagles History? The Eagles need to compete with the rest of the NFL not with themselves. McNabb is so inconsistent it's ridiculous and I think he knows that. Going to the Vikings? They'd be better off the Tavaris Jackson. McNabb fumbled half a dozen balls at snaps; his 5 yard passes were incomplete. Long balls are only 50/50. In Arizona, he has to pass the ball in that scenario too and be accurate and consistent. Donny isn’t going to suddenly let go of the ball quicker with another team. He isn’t all of a sudden after 11 years become more consistent. And he's so emotional at big games, he's a mess.

McNabb needs to go. If he wins a ring on another team, it's due to the talent on that team excluding him. People that believe McNabb is the best we can get are aiming pretty low for the Eagles. The Jets made a run in the playoffs with a pretty talented rookie QB. This was Flaccos second year in the playoffs and second with the NFL and the Ravens. Brady was a backup and not a high draft pick but has several rings, etc. Yes, all these teams have additional talent the Eagles don’t have but they have promising QB's. There are players out there that hit the ground running like D-Jack. Donovan is not the best we can have, he’s the longest we’ve had. We need better.

lonewolf 10 you will cry like a baby when McNabb starts throwing balls in the ground, holding onto the ball too long, fumbling snaps, starts joking in the huddle, pounding his chest "my fault, my fault". And finally goes to the sidelines and starts moon walking. At press conferences after the awful loses he'll tell you he played well. Good Luck.....
