A desert opening for McNabb?

POSTED: Friday, January 29, 2010, 1:14 PM

With Arizona quarterback Kurt Warner expected to announce his retirement this afternoon, Donovan McNabb fielded questions about the man who twice beat the Eagles in an NFC championship game.

"Kurt and I have been friends pretty much since the year 2001 when we played in the NFC championship against each other," McNabb said. "We've communicated back and forth and I actually talked to him after his last game against New Orleans. I told him it has been a storybook career for him."

Of course, Warner's decision to retire enhances the McNabb offseason story.

Could the Eagles' longtime quarterback end up being traded to Arizona, the place where he keeps an offseason home.

"Will you stop it," McNabb said when the subject was raised after the NFC's Pro Bowl practice this morning in Fort Lauderdale.

These things, of course, will not stop any time soon regardless of what Eagles coach Andy Reid said the day after the season.

"Everything is going to come up that involves me," McNabb said. "It seems like every offseason involves Brett Favre and Donovan McNabb, so we're going to hear about that the whole offseason. So get ready: Is Brett retiring? What's he going to do? And in Philly Donovan McNabb ... so get ready for that. But I don't get involved in all that."

McNabb wouldn't even acknowledge that if he is traded that he'd like to go to a team with a chance to win the Super Bowl. Minnesota and Arizona would both seem to have a chance to do so with McNabb.

"We can win in Philly," McNabb said. "There's a place I want to be. It's the NovaCare Center. That's in Philadelphia. One NovaCare Way, where the Eagles practice and then they eat cafeteria food and they watch film and we eat and we have fun."

McNabb also talked about the Eagles' decision to name Howie Roseman the general manager and the changes in the scouting department since the departure of former GM Tom Heckert.

"One thing people fail to realize is that Andy makes the decision over there," McNabb said. "With Howie stepping in, it's going to be the same pace and the same beat. With Andy and Joe and Howie now and everyone else in the scouting department, it's still going to flow as well as it did."

McNabb would be a good fit in Arizona, just as he is in Philly. Let's keep him.

it's playcalling. Mcnabb is something like 0-5 in the playoffs when he throws more than 40 times...which he does when the Eagles can't run the ball. the eagles shoudl trade vick for a d lineman. defense needs pressure and a safety. I think the o-line will improve, you can't lose your center at the end of the season and expect not to have problems. andrews is plenty talented, he just can't keep it together. he was a beast when he was playing

You've got to give 5 credit. He always says he wants to be here, and he doesn't have to.

Liberty: You would love to have the Eagles keep McNabb and win a Super Bowl. And I would love to be able to flap my arms and fly into the great blue sky. But neither of our hopes are going to happen. It's time for both of us to grasp the obvious and move on. It's time for Kolb.

Keep dreaming Philly. I love all the talk about Donovan being the greatest QB in Philly history. Who can argue that? He probably is. However, there's been NO Philly QB to win a SuperBowl. So what's the honor in being the best QB in Philly history? Amd McNabb ain't winning one here so I am ready for the next great Philly QB who DOES win a SupwerBowl..........

McNabb quotes "Will you stop it?!" - unfortunately no, apparently :P - Don's in better shape than most QB's. Comes in every spring training stacked. All NFL player's usually loose some conditioning as the season progresses. Between games players have to rest bodies & recovery from a previous weeks beating. Easy to talk the talk how bout tryin walkin' the walk...

According to a blog on the Arizona website, they don't expect them to trade draft picks for an aging QB, who is a free agent next year, meaning don't expect Donovan in Arizona.

flindo47, you're an idiot! 20 is no fraud, don't get it twisted one of the best defensive players in the last two decades. McNabb is not the problem, yes he likes to joke around, who else does that hmmmm... oh yea how about #10. Biggest clown on field, why is nobody talking about that, completely shut down by a defense that gave up 34 points the next week?? Why is no one talking about that, yea he got open a couple times but, that's it!! Please leave the offense the way it is and improve the defense!

McNabb's comments expressing his desire to return to the NovaCare cafeteria remind me of Kareem Abdul-Jabar's lines in the movie "Airplane!" - "I'm sorry son but you have me confused with someone else, I'm Roger Murdoch, the Co-Pilot."
