McNabb gets his revenge
Jeff McLane, Inquirer Staff Writer
Donovan McNabb was anything but perfect but the former Eagles quarterback did enough to lead the Redskins past his old team, 17-12, upon his return to Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday.
McNabb, cheered during his introduction, essentially clinched the game when he scrambled 18 yards for a first down on third-and-four from his own 22-yard line. The Eagles had narrowed the Redskins' margin to five with a little over four minutes left, but McNabb guided his offense into Eagles territory and milked the clock down to close to a minutre left.
Kevin Kolb, who replaced the injured Michael Vick in the second quarter, could not drive the Eagles to the winning touchdown. He had 1:07 to work with and had to travel 74 yards with no timeouts left.
After a roller coaster first half, but defenses ruled the day as McNabb struggled and Kolb and the Eagles offense failed to generate a spark.
McNabb completed only 8 of 19 passes for 125 yards. He threw a beauty of a 32-yard score to tight end Chris Cooley in the first half, but tossed an interception in the third quarter.
The game took a dramatic turn when Vick left with a rib/chest injury after he ran for a near-touchdown. That play, however, was reversed when Eagles guard Max Jean-Gilles was called for holding.
The game-turning moment, however, had to be when Eagles coach Andy Reid failed to realize just before the half when the officials had re-started the game clock after he called a timeout on fourth-and-one on the Washington 1-yard line. The Eagles were pushed back five yards and had to settle for a field goal and a 17-6 deficit at the half.
- eagles are a joke ,,reid is a clown and vick runs too much and is prone to get hurt,,,kolb is a moron,, marty is an a hole hardball
Yes, no #7DawgKilla at QB, look what happens. Karma. No matter how much of a diva #5 was when he was here, at least he was respectful of ALL living beings....aside from earthworms. KimThL- Andy Reid and the coaching staff MUST GO!!!!!!!!!! delcodanno
- Forget the QB discussion- The DEFENSE is HORRIBLE!!!
- Who's in first place? McNabb got a game ball. Kolb got booed.
tpizza, I concur. Richard Saunders
Pretty awful all the way around. 'Nuff said. racn4acure
This was not a great game, bad plays by both teams. We got rid of McNabb, maybe we should have gotten rid of the coach instead. I have always said it was not McNabb's fault all the time and most of the blame should had been put on the shoulders of the coach. rolan01us- Who's never won an NFC East game - Kevin Kolb.
- Reid lost the game, he had 10 minutes to think of a play for 4th and 1 primo
- rolan01us, you are beginning to see the light!!
Wow!!!! That was ugly! McNabb is gone... Reid next? Let's hope so. If your going to start over. Really start over. Bye Bye Reid, your team is a mess. Keep Kolb as a starter. San Francisco could use a coach. ( west coast offense?) We'll see next week. I guess you have 12 more games to prove something. Brohn
GO PHILLIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Brohn
The Eagles should wear pink all season & Mrs. Lurie can design the team uniforms. Can anyone on this team catch?! Avant, you could have been the hero. Why on 1st down does Reid always call for some pseudo trick play. For the last 12 years our WRs run to a spot, stop, catch, fall. Great hands, Stew Bradley. 5280philly- The difference between Kolb and Vick is one knows to win and the other shouldn't be in the league.
