McNabb doubtful for Sunday

POSTED: Sunday, September 13, 2009, 5:35 PM

Who was the player of the game in the Eagles’ opening victory?
Sheldon Brown
Trent Cole
Victor Abiamiri
DeSean Jackson

CHARLOTTE -- Donovan McNabb fractured his rib in the Eagles' otherwise celebratory 38-10 victory over the Carolina Panthers today. Head coach Andy Reid didn't give a prognosis on whether McNabb would miss any time, although a team source said that the Eagles quarterback was "doubtful" for next Sunday's game against the New Orleans Saints.

Asked if it was safe to say that McNabb was out for next week, Reid said, "No, that's not safe to say."

McNabb apparently suffered his injury when he was tackled while plunging into the end zone on a three-yard touchdown run. He laid on the ground for a while, finally arose and walked off without assistance. He soon left the field to get examined. McNabb returned in his pads, but did not return to the game.

Reid said that McNabb was out there in case of emergency. Kevin Kolb replaced McNabb, but the Eagles didn't have another quarterback dressed.

"That's why he was out there," Reid said. "I probably would have done everything not to do that. That's why we took his pads off there at the end."

Wide receiver DeSean Jackson confirmed that he was the emergency quarterback if Kolb got hurt, too. Jackson took a few direct snaps in the Wildcat formation today.

Reid said he was confident that Kolb, if need be, would step in and do the the job.

"If it comes to that," Reid said.

Michael Vick will be serving the second game of his two-game suspension next week. He will be reinstated by Week 3. Kolb was ineffective filling for McNabb. He completed 7 of 11 passes for just 23 yards. He was also sacked twice.

The Eagles cut quarterback A.J. Feeley last week. He has not caught on with another team as of yet.

So Westbrook, McCoy, Buckley, and Weaver are going to have a lot of carries on Sunday is what you are saying? Honestly this isn't a huge problem like some people are already claiming. He isn't out for the season with a knee injury or anything. He may miss 1 game or a few but he'll be back. And their schedule is as soft as you can ask (sans the Saints). Chiefs and Bucs at home with a bye and then Raiders at Oakland? Chances are Kolb might have been playing garbage time in these games anyway. GO BIRDS!

Sign Jason Carmel...the southpaw's got a rifle for an arm and the footwork of Michael Flatley...the Eagles might have to buy out his contract from the Pickering Inn in Phoenixville...

sorry guys, I just realized what a fool I've been all these years. 5 is the best quarterback we've ever had and the injuries he's suffered, while unfortunate, are merely indicative of his tremendous desire to lead this team to victory. For all of my dumb posts over the years, I apologize. Wolf out..

Sounds awfully similar to the '04 NFC Champ game against the Panthers where Greg Favors laid a cheap shot on Mcnabb and cracked his ribs then too. Scummy late hits, scummy organization. What's new?

wiff, you are the biggest hypocrite on this blog site. Get behind your quarterback? Are you for real? You embarass yourself on a daily basis but this is a new low, even for you. I was there in person and to say Kolb stunk, as usual, was an understatement. On another topic, what time will you be dropping off your Toyota at Goodwill? I'm sure you FORGOT about that little gem, no? I want to make the trip down for the occasion to watch them laugh and say they want cars that work, they aren't a junkyard. As for your 21 point lead comment, the game was not decided at that point and DM was showing the heart you say he doesn't possess. He was doing what he SHOULD have done with what was available. You are a complete waste wiff. Lonewolf 11, it was only a matter of time before someone did that, kudos. Now wiff, what time is the donation?

Hey 499, kudos to you too on your enthusiasm and your correct prediction. The run D was MUCH better than I thought it would be and Delhomme, well, not good...worse than Kolb.
