McNabb: "Damned if I do, damned if I don't"

It's downright amusing how Eagles reporters -- yours truly included -- have tried to approach Donovan McNabb in the quest to get him to talk. There have been all sorts of techniques. There's the "What if I posted a question on your blog, would answer you me then?" technique. There's the "Hey, D, I'm down with ya, I used to hang at your old school Syracuse" technique. And there's the "Just bark out a question" technique. None of the above work. McNabb just smiles away and says, "Nah, I'm cool," or "Read the blog."

He did offer this explanation -- one completely legit -- today after practice in the NovaCare complex locker room: "I'm damned if I do, damned if I don't." Naturally, that comment will be dissected, overanalyzed and distorted into myriad of interpretations. Comment away.

McNabb, by the way, wants a contract extension -- or so it is believed. Comcast SportsNet reported last night that the Eagles and McNabb were reworking his deal, but not on an extension beyond the two years left on his contract. According to a source, the two sides were attempting to restructure the last two years in which McNabb is schedule to make $9.3 million this year and $10 million the next.

McNabb, getting dressed in front of his locker, was more than willing to talk basketball, however. The former hoopster at Syracuse is picking the Lakers to beat the Magic in six games in the NBA Finals.

In other Eagles, news, Brian Westbrook was expected to get his sore ankle examined by doctors today. The Eagles running back, who had off-season surgery on his left knee, did not practice yesterday and today, and will probably sit out the rest of the OTAs. There were no other reported injuries out of practice today.
