McCoy: no beef with Smith, but Osi ...

POSTED: Tuesday, August 16, 2011, 11:51 AM

BETHLEHEM, PA -- LeSean McCoy tried to tamp down concern about any feud with new teammate Steve Smith today, but made it clear he's not ready to end his war of words with the Giants' Osi Umenyiora.

"He’s a teammate of mine, there’s no hard feelings, whatever happened is in the past," McCoy said of Smith, but added, "Now if it’s Osi it’s a different story."

When Smith signed with the Eagles and arrived in camp, the initial interaction between him and McCoy was chilly, according to both players. Today, McCoy tried to put that behind him.

"He's a new member of our team, we embraced him, happy to have him, he could help us out," McCoy said. He said he hadn't interacted much with Smith, though, because the receiver has been rehabilitating from knee surgery and not participating in practice. "I don’t really know him too well, I haven’t really seen him too much."

McCoy and Umenyiora feuded on Twitter over the summer after McCoy wrote that the Giant is "soft" and "overrated." Smith came to Umenyiora's defense, tweeting about "youngins running their mouth" and including a picture of an empty Eagles trophy case.

McCoy also talked about the lofty expectations for this season as the Eagles broke training camp.

"The sky’s the limit, as long as we don’t get too arrogant, too cocky. Be humble, take each game at a time, we should be fine. The talent and the coaching is definitely there," he said.

Not his strong suit. Time to shut up and play.

McCoy is generally quiet. A rare comment by him. He will back it up like he did last year. And for the record, the GMEN are soft.

The Giants almost beat us last year in the game when DeSean took back that punt as time expired. That was a good game, right Giants fans?

In my recording (DVR) library, I am proud to say I have the last half hour of the Giants game...and have watched it frequently over the past few months. Hope for some more gems this year from our Iggles.

Good point, but an even better one is the fact that THE best running backs in NFL history (Eric Dickerson, Walter Payton, Terrell Davis, Emmitt Smith, Barry Sanders, etc) were stand-up guys and nothing like OJ or Larry Johnson. I like Shady, but he needs to just shut up and play ball. A big mouth never won anything. Besides, even as a lifetime Birds fan, I got to admit that Osi killed Shady with that Lady Gaga crack. That's the real reason why Shady is so po'd at Osi. He threw a light jab and got countered with a two-piece knockout combo. Get over it, grow up, and finally bring us the SB ring!

Empty trophy case. That's what it's all about. So what that we've smoked these guys like a fine cigar. I seem to recall those 'soft' guys winning one of the best Superbowls in recent memory. Let's can the trash talk till we do the same.

moose man, not sure if you speak from personal experience or not but I doubt it. No one should be commenting on how good or bad someone is if you don't know them personally. Just because you "know" them because they play for your favorite football (or other sport) team doesn't mean you actually know them. For all we "know" the other guys you mentioned could have been the scum of the earth off the field.

Win a superbowl. Otherwise, keep quiet! Spend more time focusing on that goal, and less time yapping.

Do you really think the Lady Gaga crack was a good one? That was the weakest attempt at a comeback I've ever heard. It was no doubt amusing, but amusing in the 'I'm laughing at you, not with you, Osi' kind of way. That being said, what was the point of Shady making that comment anyways? Shut up and play.

p.s. Osi made many comments to many new stations, magazines, newspapers in regards to Shady's comments. Who's Lady Gaga again?

so let me get this right...the only time you can say anything in this league is if you've won a Super Bowl? and until then keep your mouth shut? otherwise you are immature and have a big mouth? wow...then I guess 90% of the league's players can't open their mouths. better get that memo out to all the guys! Don't say nothin' until you win a ring! idiotic...

The Giants haven't beaten the Eagles since before Plaxico Burress shot himself. Also, Coughlin sucks. I don't care if he has a SB ring, he still sucks.
