LeSean McCoy, who missed four games with a concussion, has been cleared by an independent neurologist and could play Sunday against the Redskins, Andy Reid said Monday.

“There’s a chance he ends up playing for us this week,” Reid said on 610 (WIP-AM) during his radio show. “We’ll see how it goes with practices this week. He practiced today and did well.”

If McCoy does dress it’ll be interesting to see how and how often he is used. In his absence, Bryce Brown has had his ups and downs. The rookie running back ran for 347 yards and four touchdowns on 43 carries in his first two starts, but was held to 40 yards on 28 carries in the next two games.

“With Bryce, I just feel he needs to play,” Reid said. “He didn’t get a lot of college experience so he’s catching up. He’s catching up at the highest level of football you can catch up at. But I think when it’s all said and done you’re going to have a good, solid running back.”

Brown has had ball security issues, however. He fumbled three times in his first two starts, and even though he wasn’t charged with a fumble against the Bengals on Thursday night, the botched handoff between he and quarterback Nick Foles was more his fault.

“He’ll correct the fumbling,” Reid said. “With time here that will get taken care of. And if it doesn’t then you can’t play.”

Some thought that the Eagles would sit McCoy for the rest of the season no matter if he had been cleared to return. He was injured late in the blowout loss to the Redskins in the first meeting.

While it took most of the season for Brown to have an impact as a change-of-pace backup to McCoy, the Eagles could have some appealing options in the backfield for next season.
